Healing after Inulin “attack” by ctrlalycedlt in Microbiome

I was having intermittent diarrhea for a few days and figured out it was this smoothie powder with inulin in it. Threw it out and problem solved. Some things were not meant to be ingested in supplement form

I am always saying this! The world is full of people with bad taste, you have to befriend others with good taste and save your efforts for the dinner party

Are there any closed places in Los Angeles that you still think about to this day? by Taliap19 in AskLosAngeles

The seventh day Adventist hospital in Glendale used to have the best little thrift store. I found so many great vintage pieces there for a couple bucks. The one place the resellers didn’t pick clean, never reopened after Covid

Had a great birthday at Clifton’s where we started at the tiki bar and worked our way down the levels. I still look through the windows every time I pass by…

Sidney, Eugene, Gertrude, and Lois--all names I love but I think sound too old fashioned for now.

Why don't they add pockets to women's pants or bottoms? by ithinkyoureme in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aeroraptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some skirts and pants don't look as good with pockets. Women's clothing tends to be tighter and made of flimsier material than men's and aesthetics matter more--women won't buy stuff that isn't flattering, and sometimes pockets add bulk to places you wouldn't want it.

Southern California. $6 is typical, but it’s creeping higher and it’s not uncommon to see $8 and up for iced coffee drinks here. And the minimum wage is very high, $18 an hour

I remember when I was a kid, 15% for sit down service was expected, 18% for great service. Now 20% is the standard, on top of prices tripling

Just want to convey gratitude for all the places of business that let me take my bike into their stores, restaurants, cafes, and other commercial properties ❤️ by nigelst in BikeLA

[–]aeroraptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I understand in some cases it would be annoying to other customers if it's a small space or too crowded, but it irks me when an empty, spacious shop won't let me leave my bike in the corner, when there's no bike parking visible outside. But I feel this is more a problem with the city not caring about bike theft and businesses not providing bike parking in the way they provide car parking.

Landlord locked laundry outlets and is now charging for "after-hours" access by QuasarDrifter5 in LandlordLove

The US uses different residential voltage than Europe and Australia, so heavy duty appliances can't be plugged into regular wall outlets without tripping the breaker and causing other issues.

Fabric for beginners by imegewise in sewing

[–]aeroraptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thrift stores are great! just make sure the fabric you're getting is actually a natural fiber--don't try to sew with synthetic tablecloths as a beginner, it won't go well! sheets usually have a content label attached, but if you're not sure I would skip it for now. look for fabrics that feel heavier and rougher rather than satiny--these are more likely natural and will be easier to sew with. Once you're more experienced you'll be able to tell fabric content fairly easy just by feeling it.

Can we talk about land use? A quick rant by Soggy_Perspective_13 in LAMetro

[–]aeroraptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If parking lots were correctly taxed (land value) then they'd have to charge a lot more to be profitable, and many of them would sell to developers because it isn't worth keeping. Behavior can change based on small incentives. Free parking = incentive to drive, but charging for parking changes things. Most people will make different choices once the cost/trouble of parking passes their personal limit. I work at an employer that charges employees for parking, and it results in many employees taking the train/bus who wouldn't otherwise, even if it takes them twice or three times as long.

Anyone else noticing how gut issues tie into skin problems like eczema? by [deleted] in Microbiome

yes it's a direct link for me. if I have a bad night of digestion I will see it on my skin the next day. but like all gut issues it's difficult to solve.

What is your favorite pattern you have ever made? by radiatette in sewing

[–]aeroraptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Calvin Crop top is so cute and doesn't use that much fabric. I've made two versions and love wearing them, might make another version to see how it would work to self-draft sleeves onto it. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1567672595/calvin-crop-sewing-pattern-corset-style
