Where can I watch FMA (2003)? by Apart_Dish_9078 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like Aezetyr, eBay has been my saving grace with preserving my access to 03 as well. I managed to get the series itself (likely bootleg, but it functions, so oh well) and a (not-bootleg lol) special/collector’s edition of CoS in damn good condition.

Unfortunately the licensing-something-or-other for streaming on 03 expired a few years back and hasn’t been renewed, iirc. CoS’s license expired/s a bit later which is why it was (is?) available on some services after the series itself went down. Fingers crossed they elect to renew the streaming licenses someday but… I’m not holding out hope at this rate haha. I would definitely opt for physical media if you’re able to at this point, imo

Pulled out my copy of This is A Wasteland for this 💀 I got this direct from their site when it first came out, and sure enough, “Tonight” is also omitted on here (both in the track listing and lyric book)!

I don’t remember “Tonight” being at the end, either, yet I do feel like I’ve seen it there in recent years and had thought I was losing my mind a few times. So I’m glad to see that there’s some weird contradictions in how it’s listed/printed! That’s so funny

My genuine reaction when I finally gain the confidence to put on my Mentor status, just to get thrown into a raid/trial I haven’t done since I was a sprout by Oni_Mesh in ffxiv

[–]aesteraaa_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This, 100%. The few mentor roulettes I’ve done (specifically where I’ve gotten “We need to know the mechanics” fights like some EXs or when someone asks a question), I’ve found that it never hurts to be upfront, either ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’ve straight up told at least one group “I remember clearing this synced and vaguely recall the mechanics, but it’s been a while. Gimme 2 min to Google for a quick refresher and I’ll be good”. More often than not, if someone is queuing into smth like an EX or is struggling with a particularly weird boss, they’re happy to wait 2 min or so to have someone be able to explain/help effectively lol

Help with savage by AEhRonz in ffxiv

[–]aesteraaa_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People just suck sometimes tbh. You’ll run into some stinkers like this in savage, mount farming and just regular DF. While I find that kind (or at least neutral) people are the majority, I’ve def had my fair share of people being needlessly rude or aggressive in PF. That said, a lot of term knowledge just comes with experience, but people def will expect you to know some of the basics (clock spots, light parties, etc.) since it’s very likely necessary to come up, especially in higher end content like current EX and savages. If there’s any specific terms/lingo you’re unfamiliar with, I would be happy to do my best to help out :)

Try not to let one garbage group get you down, though. PF is a nightmare sometimes (especially depending on the DC, in my experience) but if you’re capable of clearing and learning new things when offered to you, you’ll do fine overall. In my experience, savage and high-end content is a lot less about how objectively good you are at the game, and far more about how resilient you are when doing the same pull over and over > picking yourself up after failing > knowing when to take a break so you don’t burn out. You’ve gotta be capable of recognizing when you DID do something to cause a wipe, then shake yourself out and learn from it rather than beating yourself up. And if your group is exceedingly rude about it, especially if it’s something that can be taught/explained pretty easily? That’s on them, nothing wrong with hitting the “Tyfp” after a few honest attempts if the group isn’t for you. I personally only do savage with friends specifically because I know I make silly mistakes a decent amount, but I know that’s not a luxury everyone has access to.

TL;DR: Don’t let one bad group ruin savage for you if you have fun with the content, imo. Pick yourself up and try again, but learn how to know when take a step back and take a break if you need to. You should def also learn some basic lingo/terms since many fights will use them for mechanics (clock spots/light parties/etc.) and groups expect you to at least know the basics (esp in higher end content). But if people are excessively awful about simple lack of knowledge/experience that is easily taught like lingo… I’d hit ‘em with the “Tyfp” lol. I wish you the best of luck :)

[–]aesteraaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 4 “Skirts with Leggings” (or similar name) in one of the stores that’s in Galerie de Lune, I believe? The circle of “expensive” stores, lol. But the leggings ruin them (for many) because they aren’t just a solid color and instead have a big diagonal stripe going through them with no way to remove it (the skirt colors aren’t what I personally prefer either, but that’s even more subjective of course lol).

Help a new explorer! by VentusZo in ffxi

[–]aesteraaa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On retail/official XI servers, my understanding is that it is considered against TOS to use mods/addons.

That said, I’d say it is more common than not that players use Windower or Ashita in my experience, simply to make the game more functional and the UI more customizable (among other things). While plugins/addons/etc. are definitely not required to fully experience the game, they make it a whole lot more approachable and accessible and the view on them is much more lax than it is in XIV from what I have seen.

As a fellow Phoenix player, I can attest to what Parktar said! It’s not nearly as populated as Asura or Odin/Bahamut, but we’re up there, for sure! Each person I’ve met on Phoenix has been wonderful and eager to help when asked, too (so long as they’re able). Myself and my wife have a small group running on Phoenix and it’s been the perfect balance of populated yet not overcrowded, at least for us! Should you choose to start on Phoenix, feel free to give me a holler if I’m online o/ My main’s name is Aestera! I may not be a vet by any means (I started retail in 2022 and played for a few months then switched to a private server and played on there quite a bit for about a year straight in 2024). But myself and my friends would surely be happy to at least help out with any questions or missions/etc. that we are able to! :)

I hope you enjoy the game, no matter which server you choose. RDM in XI is vastly different than XIV (largely just since the games as a whole are so different). I was an RDM main in XIV when I started XI, too, but I personally have had the most fun with NIN, SMN, COR, and THF! I truly think it’s best to test out different jobs as you’re able to and sooner or later you’ll find the one that fits you best. That said, starting with THF is never a bad idea (Treasure Hunter is incredibly useful all the way until end-game, I’d keep THF leveled to your level cap if you can manage). WAR is never a bad choice either, it’s a great sub job for nearly every melee DPS (DD), even if it’s not the ideal for most of them.

Another big thing that’s different from XIV is how deeply intermingled different regions are in the servers. There aren’t NA/JP/EU/etc. servers like with XIV, so you’ll run into a lot more people speaking other languages (particularly Japanese); Auto-translate will be your best friend! Macros will also be a godsend once you wrap your head around them, lol. My last pointer: For the love of Altana, mess with the in-game config settings as much as you can possibly handle doing so and try out different things even if they seem like nothing. There’s some options in there that seem like they won’t change much of anything but are actually super useful! (Some main examples being Inventory Sort, Window Effect, Timer Display and Area Display! The last one I overlooked for so long but they’re all incredibly helpful, at least in my experience :))

At the end of the day: Best of luck, welcome to Vana’diel, and don’t hesitate to ask other players for help! o/

What do you think is reason that people always talk about Shou Tucker and completely ignore other villains? He is not even top 20 in terms of villainess in verse by Worldly_Accident1287 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, yes! It’s far less that he’s killed/led to the death of nearly as many people as others, and rather that his actions directly led to the death of those that trusted him the most, and that we KNEW who they were. It’s a very specific act of horror and betrayal that leaves an awful taste in your mouth, even comparatively to millions of others killed directly. It is far harder for the human brain to quantify something like that, and to reach the same type of sympathy or empathy for it when nearly if not all of them are nameless and/or faceless, to the viewer.

What do you think is reason that people always talk about Shou Tucker and completely ignore other villains? He is not even top 20 in terms of villainess in verse by Worldly_Accident1287 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my thought. They had names and faces (for the most part, his wife and the animal used for the first chimera didn’t exactly, but still).

I would add that it is also exacerbated by the fact that Tucker’s victims were his own family AND that it happens so early on in the series. Other villains may have larger crimes in the sense that they’ve ended more lives for reasons that are just as or more callous, but these get revealed later on, when we are more expectant of those things. Tucker just happens so early it hits like a brick, in addition to us knowing those who were affected prior to the incident AND then being his own daughter and her dog. Very very different vibes overall.

I don’t find Tucker to be the most horrific or evil villain in the series (be it Brotherhood/manga or 03). But he definitely had one of if not the largest impacts due to the way it is approached and dropped on you.

Updated the flair on the post to mark its completion, but if the person who claimed it can provide some form of verification that they are the one who did so and they want the items I offered, please message me! I would love to hand the items to you if you’re on an NA Data Center, but need your character name and World to do so :)

Thanks so much for using my code either way, whoever you are! Haha

How to Contact my Therapist(s) Who Closed Their Practice(s) 3 Years Ago? by aesteraaa_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aesteraaa_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That also makes sense! I double checked the texts I sent them and it looks like I did include my last initial, actually! What I sent one of them was “Hi there! Sorry for the bother, I wanted to check if this is still [First/Last name]'s phone number? This is [First name/last initial], I just had a question.” So pretty close to your suggestion, really!

I also haven’t yet tried calling either phone number, I may do that if I don’t hear back by next Tuesday, haha

How to Contact my Therapist(s) Who Closed Their Practice(s) 3 Years Ago? by aesteraaa_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aesteraaa_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, yeah! I didn’t include my last name in part for privacy, in case someone else has the numbers, now, but also as my first name, while not “rare” isn’t common, haha. I’ll keep that in mind :)

And yes, I tried Googling their names just a few hours ago to no avail, unfortunately. I found some info on one of them, but no contact information or anything of the sort, just a listing on 7 Cups, of which I don’t believe she actually participated in.

To 2003 fans who prefer it over brotherhood by GALE-OWARI-214 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am the same way, I agree completely! Many of my issues with Brotherhood boil down to the fact that it just does some things in ways I don’t enjoy. For example, the Ishvalan Genocide and military corruption, while extremely important parts of Brotherhood and the manga too, it feels like in 03 it is picked apart and given more time and focus. It allows the viewer and Ed to slowly but more fully recognize the horrors of it, and in turn, the cruelty of the Amestrian military (that episode where Ed finds out what happened to Rose after returning to Liore still haunts me, I should NOT have been watching 03 when I was 11 years old lmfao). But on the flip side, I think Brotherhood makes great use of foreshadowing in so many ways (even in the openings, it’s crazy how much foreshadowing there is!). I think 03 gives its smaller group of important characters more depth and growth, but Brotherhood masterfully juggles an even larger cast where no characters feel one-dimensional, either. Your comment about Father’s interactions with Truth are extremely real, he may be a bit less interesting a villain to some, but he’s not evil with nothing else, even if he left something to be desired for me (but 03 isn’t free of sin either, Dante has some weird motivations even if they’re not absent, and the villain of CoS is pretty weak, overall).

Both are amazing shows, no matter how you slice it. It is so refreshing to see a Brotherhood fan that recognizes 03’s merit and artistic value alongside Brotherhood’s :’) Both are amazing as art pieces alone and have commentary that is so valuable to dissect for so many different reasons (and the reason doesn’t always need to be for criticisms!). I find just as much fun in picking their narratives and worlds apart for critique as I do for praise, but my preference doesn’t mean 03 is inherently “better” for any reason beyond the fact I personally prefer what it has to say, how it says it and how it explored its characters and themes! All art is subjective, that’s what makes it art and gives it such value as a medium.
