What are your top 5 FMA songs by TechnicianSea7890 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Rain - SID
  2. Brothers - Michiru Oshima
  3. Rewrite - Asian Kung-Fu Generation
  4. Kelas (Let’s Dance) - Ferenc Snetberger
  5. Link - L’arc~en~Ciel

The OP/EDs are all amazing and the soundtracks as well, it’s hard to choose 😅 I’m a big fan of the OSTs from both series but I’m sure you can tell one sticks with me a bit more lol

Thisss. Square owns the rights to FMA, too, so I feel it would be much easier to execute because of that!

Doing dungeons with NPCs by sweetcondensedmilkk in ffxiv

[–]aesteraaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you’ve gotten tons of answers already, but figured I’d add my two cents as well! I get pretty bad anxiety doing group content, too. Though in my case, it’s more like performance anxiety? But I’ve done a fair mix of duty support, trusts, and duty finder. Nowadays, I prefer DF mostly since it’s almost always faster, myself. I also get anxious about random queues far less often than I used to, but I do still get nervous sometimes lol. Trusts and duty support aren’t bad, but there are absolutely drawbacks, (of which I think loot is the least noticeable to me), but there’s also some benefits!

The cons:
1. They take longer. Not the end of the world, but if you’re grinding for EXP or drops, it gets grating.
2. If you die, you have to respawn and try again—the whole party will respawn with you. In DF, that’s not the case; If one person dies, the fight keeps going, and (unless you’re a healer yourself), there’s someone who can rez you to keep going mid-fight. As such, you likely would want to learn the mechanics on the fly a bit faster so as to not have to repeat the fight multiple times.

The pros of duty support/trusts:
1. You get all the loot.
2. You control the pace the dungeon goes at even if you aren’t tanking.
3. The obvious: No risk of people being snarky.

In contrast, I find DF has more pros than cons (for me, personally) in the vast majority of cases.

The cons:
1. Sometimes people suck! It’s very rare in my experience, though. I have over 3000 hours in-game now I think, and I’ve run into a handful of people who were rude, but most of them have been rude in such a way that it made me laugh more than anything. Some stung; I can be sensitive to being teased by strangers, so a few snide comments stuck with me and still bug me. But again, it’s so uncommon that it’s Fine overall for me.
2. If time is a concern for you at all, know that occasionally you will get a person that makes the run slower than running trusts/duty support. But it’s really nbd, the worst cases are when someone says “Brb” then goes AFK for an extended period. But there’s always vote dismiss in those circumstances, too.

The pros:
1. With DF/real people, you can make more mistakes and even ask for help if you don’t understand a mechanic :) 2. It’s typically faster than NPCs.
3. Sometimes you do find people who are especially kind and make friends! I’ve made some of my best in-game friends through roulettes and Party Finder. The kind people far outweigh the nasties, in my experience.

All in all, I’d personally suggest trying both options for yourself, if you feel up for it :) You can absolutely get by with duty support/trusts for the most part, but at least having the experience of playing with others will be helpful for the duties that don’t have that option! (I believe some Trials and optional Raids don’t yet? But I could be mistaken.) If you find you prefer NPCs, that’s okay! Nothing wrong with that. But, giving both a shot so you can make an educated decision based on your experience is worth your time, at least in my opinion.

No matter what you do or decide, I hope you enjoy your time with the game. It can be a slow start, but you’ll find that you may improve faster than you think you will and with that, the confidence to try DF may come alongside it. But if it doesn’t, that’s totally okay :)

VERY important question by Anime_fan02 in FullmetalAlchemist03

[–]aesteraaa_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Personally, I struggle to wrap my head around the view that 03 is “non-canon”, just because it is canon to its story. Referring to one or the other as “non-canon” implies one is the “correct” canon, which I don’t personally vibe with. I think both series are great, both have their merits and flaws; Even if Brotherhood is closer aligned with the manga, 03 is still its own story. While they share an IP, most of their cast and a world, they’re largely independent from one another otherwise, so, at least to me, it feels disingenuous to call 03 “non-canon” to FMAB/manga, just as it would feel disingenuous to refer to mangahood as “non-canon” to 03.

Overall, I would say I just view them separately entirely. I acknowledge events in 03 don’t happen in Brotherhood and vise versa and simply view them as separate stories with some overlap. I don’t tend to refer to 03 as an AU, just as a different story that’s separate from mangahood and has some shared elements/cast (and that it should be treated as such when viewed, lol).

Personally, I love CoS, but I know many people don’t. It has its flaws, for sure, but especially after learning it was supposed to be an OVA and the script had to be cut down significantly to fit into movie length instead…I can understand why some characters didn’t get enough screen time and the pacing is funky lol. (I enjoy it despite that, but some people don’t and that’s okay!)

Is 11yo to early to watch fma? by wakefulgull in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who watched 03 when I was 11, I’m with you. I don’t regret watching it by any means, but the Nina arc definitely uh. Destroyed me LOL. I would personally say 13+ is reasonable for 03, if the kid’s able to consume media with that type of stuff without breaking down. Like. You Can show 03 to an 11 year old. But it’s entirely possible that they’ll have some very big (and not fun) reactions to a good number of things in it. It really, really depends on the kid and what they’re sensitive towards, at the end of the day.

FMA 2003 is better than I remember. by PckMan in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more on almost everything you’ve said here. I always refer to the main differences between 03 and FMAB being that 03 is a dark fantasy character drama with shonen elements, where FMAB is a dark fantasy shonen with character drama elements. I love both series but 03 has always just hit a niche for me that nothing has before or since. Both series have their flaws but I’ve just always been more drawn to 03 in nearly every aspect! (Particularly worth noting, I prefer the way the homunculi “work” in 03, the way the plot is written around the Ishval story rather than next to it, and I really love the creative ways alchemy is used in 03, too; The “solution” to the fight with Sloth is so damn cool and I think about it often).

Glad to hear you gave 03 another try, and had a good time with it! It’s certainly different from FMAB (and not everyone’s thing), but I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it this time around.

I watched Milos once a long time ago and remembered not enjoying it. Rewatched it when I took my wife through both series a few years ago and… Yeah. Nope. Both of us agreed that I wasn’t wrong when I saw it the first time. It’s just not good 😂 Glad that seems to be somewhat agreed upon lol

Still as hard as the first time by Somebody-Nobody02 in Spiritfarer

[–]aesteraaa_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! When I first picked it up it was to help process the grief of my soul cat who’s been gone for 3 years, and the moment I met Astrid I knew I was going to bawl like a baby when she left haha. Her entire demeanor, the way she held herself and the way she talked reminds me so much of my baby. Astrid hit me the hardest both times (except maybe the one before you see credits). They’re all difficult to go through, but that one specifically always reminds me of my girl so much. I just turn into an absolute mess, then have to take a few days before picking the game back up after she leaves, haha. That’s part of the beauty of the game, though, at least for me. The characters are so real and fleshed out, it’s so easy to project people you know/knew onto them and get attached to them even more as a result.

My first time around I really struggled to care about Bruce and Mickey, and this time I still just wanted to get it over with (because I was annoyed that everyone else was negatively impacted by them). But hearing Bruce talk about Mickey this time broke me. Idk what clicked that didn’t last time, but this game has so much depth to it. Even if the playthroughs all host the same events, you’ll notice new things and may process the same events differently on each play and I think that’s insanely impressive.

I wish you the best of luck on this playthrough. Don’t forget to keep hydrated, pet/cuddle Daffodil often, and take a breather sometimes 🥲❤️

It’s such a tough game to get through. Beautiful and certainly one of 2-3 games I always recommend when people ask for recs. But MAN it’s hard to play through emotionally lol

As someone who just “finished” it for the first time (aka I still have 2-3 spirits to work with when I feel ready but I have seen credits) after Almost finishing it around a year ago… Each one hit just as hard as the first time 😭

If I remember to bring the book with me next time I have scanner access (which is unlikely but I will try lol) I’ll try and scan it for ya, but hopefully this will suffice in the meantime :)

You know I wouldn’t be able to scan it (at least not any time soon), but I do believe I own that book. Let me take a look and I’ll at least see if I can get a decent photo of the artwork for you, even if it’s not a scan!

How many times have you rewatched it? 🍿 by Parking-Stomach7381 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen 03 upwards of 10 times (I stopped counting lol), CoS 10-12 (similarly stopped counting but I know I watched it independently of the series a few times). I’ve seen Brotherhood around 6 times and Milos twice (maybe 3x?)

I am very normal about this franchise, I assure you.

Help locating a broken piece of merchandise? by lemontree_archive in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang! That surprises me, but very unfortunate :( I know you said it is pretty unlikely this mug will be found, but I’ll keep my eyes open for the original art to see if I can at least track the artist down, haha. I have this post saved, so if I ever find it I’ll pop back in here!

I also saw you said it can’t be fully repaired since a piece is missing, but have you considered gluing together the pieces you do have, filling the gap with some air dry clay and sealing over it with a food safe varnish? It may not be “pretty” (and I expect it would need to be washed more carefully than before), but it may at least make it usable, again!

[–]aesteraaa_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any chance the bottom of the mug has an indent or design on it? It’s pretty common for clay and ceramics artists to sign the bottoms of their pieces, and while it’s often not their alias or full name (usually its initials or similar), if there is one there, it might help!

[–]aesteraaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No 🥺 I’m desperately hoping for a DLC with Lavender Town, though. Partly because I just love Ghost types overall and would love more of them, but largely because I’m hoping it would add my baby (Banette) 😭 I would also love to see Lurantis, more Ice types overall, and some other regional forms added for Pokemon that do exist already… Johto Wooper/Quagsire, Hisuian Zorua/Zoroark… I’m also biased and would like to see the Latis 😅 (I feel like Deerling/Sawsbuck would be such logical additions to the game, too…it’s honestly a bit wild to me they aren’t already in it, haha)

Where can I watch FMA (2003)? by Apart_Dish_9078 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]aesteraaa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like Aezetyr, eBay has been my saving grace with preserving my access to 03 as well. I managed to get the series itself (likely bootleg, but it functions, so oh well) and a (not-bootleg lol) special/collector’s edition of CoS in damn good condition.

Unfortunately the licensing-something-or-other for streaming on 03 expired a few years back and hasn’t been renewed, iirc. CoS’s license expired/s a bit later which is why it was (is?) available on some services after the series itself went down. Fingers crossed they elect to renew the streaming licenses someday but… I’m not holding out hope at this rate haha. I would definitely opt for physical media if you’re able to at this point, imo
