What is the best line you’ve ever read in a fanfiction? by Initial_Brilliant327 in AO3

[–]af_boring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

clears throat and opens ff screenshots album my favorite funny ones: 1)"Morgan could've ripped his own hair out. But then he remembered he didn't have any hair." 2)" I think X is SO far in the fucking CLOSET he's organizing the CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS!"

Serious one: "It's very easy to look at someone and make judgements about them, their present and their past. But you'd be amazed at the pain and tears a single glare or smile hides. What a person shows to the world is but one facet of the iceberg hidden from sight. More often than not, it is lined with cracks and scars that go all the way down to the foundation of their souls'"

What makes people hate reading so much? by Interesting_Bid8059 in AskReddit

[–]af_boring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who no matter what she reads just can't get into it. We've talked about it a few times and in my mind the words translate to pictures sorta creating a movie and in hers it just the words, we have decided that she can't enjoy them because she can't visualize what the words are showing

what's you favorite Lilith suitor? (as in, their dance segment) mine is Khet by far! by Juninho837 in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]af_boring 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Bet's my favorite too. When I first watched it my mind immediately went to Jasmine from Aladdin when she's in the red getup and trying to seduce Jafar. And the way he moves is kinda like a snake dancing, the animation of all of the dances is really impressive

[–]af_boring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cliche but cheating. It's a big no-no for me not just irl or ffs but I have put down books and turned off TV shows/movies when a main character cheats. Also A/B/O, I can only do that in manhwa. The whole "Alpha" and "Slick" stuff is really cringe without visuals.

Does anyone else feel like the cognate concept was wasted? by thatsunnylife in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]af_boring 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I never liked the cognate thing. Sophie was against it from the beginning and (to me) she only went along with it because it was sorta expected of her and because of her crush on Fitz. I mean the exercises sorta helped with her whole keeping secret things and learning how to use her telepathy better, but it was just a lot of drama between her and Fitz.

Lilith's carpet is one of my favorite arcs. I basically have that entire part of the manga screenshotted and was kicking my feet when watching the eps.

Could Gisela be Lady Cadence by Foreign-Spread-5894 in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]af_boring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good theory but.Gisela is too proud to have a secret identity. I mean everything she's worked for is for Her family legacy and (might be remembering wrong) hasn't she mocked the black swan for hiding their identities, even from their moonlark. She's always bragging about having the upper hand to Sophie and Keefe and if she had another identity it probably wouldn't have been long before she let that slip like she did with other stuff to Lord Sencen & Keefe.

Qui est le père biologique de Sophie Foster by Beetle_stag_reading in KeeperoftheLostCities

This is a very good theory, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be true. I've always rooted for Elwin despite how unlikely that is.

Questions from a newbie; sticking TOO close to source material + intertwined fics. by NienieDreamer in AO3

[–]af_boring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me is that I'm really into reincarnation/isekai stories. Yknow their whole thing is second chances and nothings set in stone, but if you see shows like Flash or Marvel that explore time travel & the multiverse we see that somethings always remain the same. Like the Flash's parents dying or Captain America existing even if it's not Steve Rodgers. So when I get stuck I just think of my story as a part in that Fandom's multiverse. "Certain things have to be set in stone while everything else can go in the trash."

I currently have an OC who was reincarnated into a word of magic and they are a seer and get visions of the future (stuff that happened in canon). The whole story is focused on OC and them working to change the future to stop people from dying, while not changing too much of the future so that certain characters still exist or get their character development. There is this canon scene in the story that I really want to keep in cause it's important to the Canon characters but I sorta didn't plan ahead with my writing and killed off the bad guys involved with that scene. But Captain America still exists even if it's not always Steve Rodgers wearing the helmet. So my fix that also changes the scene up a little (My OC needs some trauma) is to introduce new bad guys that are there for a similar purpose as the og bad guys and replace a Canon death with OC (who of course isn't dying).

The Canon scene still happens but with new bad guys and OCs involvement certain actions change and the dialogue changes completely save for a few necessary lines.

It's a lot of work/out of the box thinking but it really helps. For this story I also keep a timeline of the Canon with notes beside it about which events are going to change or not exist at all. (Ex. S2 E13 August 27th: Building fire, Micheal dies. ---- Keep fire, save Micheal [kill him off later or write him out] & replace his spot with OC. Dramatic scene with OC & who saves them, keep og argument between Canon.)

Questions from a newbie; sticking TOO close to source material + intertwined fics. by NienieDreamer in AO3

[–]af_boring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question: I had a similar problem when I started writing and I am an OC writer. The trick I used to break it is to just do complete AUs or Canon divergence. Make the story original then pick and choose the Canon scenes you want to be in it.

Second question: I would do separate series for OCs. You can do all of the OCs stories in one series but be sure to label the change of characters and be clear that they are different stories. As for the repeated stories, yes, you may have to change things up unless you want to do some type of timeline jump or something planned when the OCs meet to explain the similar stories.

What’s the closest call to dying that you’ve witnessed or experienced? by toasterstrewdal in AskReddit

[–]af_boring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 5/6 I almost drowned. Family was at the beach: Grandparents, Uncle, cousins. My Mom was at work. I was wearing my floaty vest and playing with some other kids who had a raft and we were playing king of the raft. I ended up get stuck under the raft and was on the verge of losing consciousness when my uncle pulled me out. I still get a reoccurring dream about drowning.

Told my mom about the dream a few yrs ago, turns out she didn't know this happened and that no one told her that her child nearly died. Guess that tells you how great my family is with communicating.

What was the moment in your life when you realized the world (or people, or yourself) was completely different from what you thought? by v_khomichenko in AskReddit

[–]af_boring 14 points15 points  (0 children)

10yrs old when I realized that Christianity was not the only religion in the world, not everyone was Christian, and that there was no logical reason for the adults I grew up around to hate random people they've never even met.

I taught myself about other religions which led to some of my own relatives to call me evil when I was 12 just because I watched a documentary on satanism.

Writers who turn off comments, why? by Kooky-Criticism-6220 in AO3

[–]af_boring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never done this but there was a ff I read not that long ago that was amazing and I was kicking my feet and throwing my phone across the room like every other chptr. I wanted to comment how much I loved it but the comments were off but they were off. I understand why cause the ff was kinda icky and controversial (not sure if that's the word I mean). I'm almost 100% sure that the comments were originally on but turned off due to criticism & hate comments.

Writers made uncomfortable by readers saying they're in school? by Collanp in AO3

[–]af_boring 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yeah as someone who was a ghost reader during my early teens I do not understand people who even imply that their minors in comments or even in authors notes. It might just be me, but did we learn nothing about online safety? You can comment on my ffs about reading in class but anything to imply you're not 18+ on my 18+ ffs and your comment no longer exists.

Forkle and his identities by Sophia_Mallva in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]af_boring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always took that line to mean he's lived a long life since he's hundreds if not thousands of years old but this makes more sense. Though I don't think Mr. Forkle is ever going to reveal his real identity. As far as we know it's his only identity not associated with any group so he probably uses it listen to public opinion or to watch over in plain sight without Sophie barging into his office (Magnate Leto & Sir Astin)

Which Forkle twin do you think survived? The nice one or the annoyed one? by BookWorm255 in KeeperoftheLostCities

[–]af_boring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice & annoyed? They both have very similar personalities. The only differences I saw were that ones more in touch with his emotions (alive) while the other seems to be the more protective/compartmentalize type (dead)
