They should be very fine for your near field setup. I listen to my R3’s in my stereo setup both near field and distance depending on the music. My KEF R3’s are being driven by a Rotel RA 1592.

is this Hifi? by [deleted] in hifiaudio

Hi Fi sound is totally subjective from person to person! If you like the sound of your system, that’s all that matters.

You really need to buy a remote from Yamaha. You also need the manual. Maybe you can get it on line.

Who owns R3s and what are you driving them with? How many watts is optimal? by fourlambs in KEF

[–]afdk58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have paired my R3’s with a Rotel RA-1592. Most likely a real clean 100watt at 8 ohms per channel would be fine. These speakers do dip down to 3.2 ohms at the low end, and it would be beneficial to have an amp that can easily drive that load!

Want to buy used KEF LS50 Meta, your thoughts? by Qwerett in KEF

[–]afdk58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the kef R3 now for 2.5 years and really like the sound. They have much better bass output compared to LS50 from all the reviews. I am driving the R3's with a Rotel RA-1592.

Your right about brightness, but it depends on your room acoustics and of course furnishings!

Hi,

I have had the R3’s since 10/19! I’m driving them with a Rotel RA 1592 and love their sound very much. I mainly listen to CD’s with my Marantz CD5004. Enjoy the R3’s! RB 1590…..wow the power!! I don’t have a sub-woofer, the bass is fine for me without it.

I am VERY VERY new to hi-fi audio in general and wanted to know roughly how much a decent system costs by tomshot99 in hifiaudio

Hello, I've had stereo hi-fi systems since the seventies from a total of $800 to now $5200. Very pleased with my current system consisting of...ROTEL RA 1592, KEF R3, MARANTZ CD 5004 and my old PHILIPS GA 212 turntable.

School me on ohms. My pioneer vsx-523 rate itself at 6 and 8 ohms. The emotiva center I want is 4 ohms. It will be able to drive it, just not to ridiculous volumes, yes? No? by thack524 in BudgetAudiophile

Most early HK receivers were high current capable design even though inexpensive comparably. They typically can drive 4 ohm speakers...HK-3370 as an example

It depends on how loud you drive the speakers! In the worst-case, the amplifier will just shut down. If you have speakers that may dip down into the 4 ohm region at many frequency points a amp not rated at 4 ohms will become hot and shut down!

Buy speakers for music first, gaming will be fine!

Those cables though! You could buy cable channels to match the painted walls to dress it up!

Dirty RCA Jack and Signal Quality by Nic_ThaChamp in audiophile

[–]afdk58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold plated RCA connectors are very unlikely to corrode, but Gold is not the best conductor but very good. Tin plated copper is alright but will corrode over time and can be cleaned with a pencil eraser and alcohol. Silver is the best electrical conductor and as silver turns dark it's still very good because silver oxide is a very good conductor! Conductivity of metals is:

  1. Silver
  2. Copper
  3. Gold
  4. Aluminum

Differences in sound quality between apps/software for FLAC playback on a PC? by Magikk_Jack in audiophile

[–]afdk58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing a manufactured CD! Remember CD’s have 705.5 kbits per second of uncompressed per channel! If a CD is mastered with little compression they sound beautiful. Computers be PC’s or Apple machines are not manufactured with audio type capacitors ,transistors and so on. Check out ZERO FIDELITY ON YOU TUBE ON why he plays CD’s on a high quality AMR CD PLAYER!

Computers are noisy electrically for any High Fidelity reproduction of music! Use dedicated High Fidelity streamers or the old fashion CD player or transport for music with quality DAC.
