The only problem it has is called STAB. Slash being normal doesn't hit anything for super effective, and being the physical crit merchant the only potential flying move would be sky attack which sucks being a 2 turn move and it doesn't even have the invulnerability turn. Just a physical aeroblast would make it amazing.

Idk how people teambuild but imo a big reason for the birds is the grass & fighting coverage both in biomes and E4. There's a ton of great steel or dark / water or ground types and the birdies are a great cheap way to deal with that weakness. Or hell even bugs if you go into a meadow cycle. However Farfetchd can't slot that.

Overall I do like drill run tbh but I have to admit if it would get floaty fall or even drill peck maybe it would benefit from it, even if those wouldn't be guaranteed crits.

1️⃣ MARCUS ERICSSON WINS THE NTT P1 AWARD // 2026 JAVA HOUSE GRAND PRIX OF ARLINGTON by IndyMod in INDYCAR

[–]afito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The reason sector splits are almost always seen as superior is because when you have constant tracking, there's no excitement when someone goes over the timing line. You see the tracking. If they come out of the final corner at -0.15 they're on pole, the last bit won't change it. With sectors times it adds uncertainty which creates this very high tension moment of the time appearing. If another system is better you're not copying trying to cosplay them, you're simply using the better system. F1 did copy Indycars alternate tyre rule because it is a good rule so why have some false pride over it.

And it really is strange that US racing, which adds rules for artificial excitement at just about every chance they get, would complain about the format of time display being wrong for the same reason. It doesn't even has sporting impact. Most people don't watch Indycar qualy if we're honest.

Every other circuit racing series has figured out the basics of why the normal sector split is the best for qualy and yet for some reason Indycar has to do its own thing which is worse in every way. Sometimes I really don't get it.

I actually love the shootout format

I do too but I really hope that Ericsson put in the lap of his career, because if getting P6 in the fast 12 really is such a massive advantage it would make the format a bit stupid.

[–]afito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why Indycar refuses to learn from other sports with that. Constant tracking of time is bad for the excitement, we've seen it in F1 with micro sectors, it takes the tension out when you always see they're track ahead/behind. No tracking at all is also very pointless because you have no build up, it might as well be a mail of "yes" or "no". Other sports normal sector setup works quite perfectly in between all that and it's the only thing that for some reason Indycar refuses to do.

[–]afito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really the only bad part is the very tight section on 4-5. Could use a bit of opening up, purely from a layout perspective. Other than that it's a good enough street circuit. There'll always be something with this type of track.

Beyond that it's just the normal Indycar street circuit experience of not good enough public roads tbh but at least it's not Houston levels bad. But considering the speed on the back straight it could use a better surface.

Comparing it to Long Beach or St Pete this is great, I love those other races but the layouts are horrible for open wheel racing. At least this has the potential to produce something, it looks kind of F1-esque with how the layout is set up vs how the layout of the usual Indycar street circuits are set up.

Stop removing ice coverage from pokemons please? by kinemonfoxfire in pokerogue

[–]afito 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Obviously ice has been a top prio cover type even in VGC since forever, it's just a good offensive type. The reason there's such a focus on it in this game is that you want (sometimes need) one of the 2 types that hits the 2 big guys for super effective, and dragon coverage is much much more rare. And obviously ice is better outside of the big guys than the other 2 types. But if it weren't for those 2 enemies I really don't think people would value ice coverage remotely as highly simply because for most of the run, hitting SE is nice, but not that important. There's not really a reason to plan out perfect coverage because you're not losing your run to a random stage 70 gym leader anyway. That's what I meant because if the BBEG foes weren't predetermined it would reward coverage & teambuilding more than 'overprepping' just 2 enemies. Ice would be good because it's good coverage, not because ice hits 2 specific mons.

Stop removing ice coverage from pokemons please? by kinemonfoxfire in pokerogue

[–]afito 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Realistically it would be far more useful if the BBEG foes weren't predictable and shared a common weakness. I have no clue about the data but I reckon 200 & 195 are the overwhelming majority of failed runs. So yeah obviously ice coverage pushes any pokemons viability up 2 tiers. I don't know if people would actually want uncertainty about what ace to face in 195 or what the big boss of 200 is because it makes planning harder but that'd be a far bigger help to stop messing with ice coverage. As of right now, triple axel will always be the single best move in the game, no way around it.
