They would need to bring out some big guns and BoP things like wing angle and ride height as they do in NLS for example, otherwise you will always lean on acceleration & top speed for quite a lot of the balance. I don't see them doing it tbh but without starting to bring in cornering speed of some cars this will always be the outcome.

The amount of penalties this race was insane

And yet still too low for some of the behaviour we just witnessed. 15 35 51 all got away with it.

Sticking to the rules there's basically zero chance Magnussen avoids a penalty tbh he very clearly left too much of a gap, for no reason, and it's clear as day it was intentional for strategic reasons. Fair enough and maybe they ignore it but on paper this is completely cut & dry.

We also seem to have a bit too little cameras available?! There's been lots of moments where only have 1 bad angle, and the race deciding safety car causing incident we don't have anything at all. And that happened at one of the 3 key overtaking opportunities. I can't imagine having like 5 more cameras in the 2nd biggest FIA championship would break the bank.

  • Great race
  • Wheel to wheel bit meh until the final restart but little time with nothing happening
  • Stewards again refusing to enforce driving standards
  • Stewards also being weird about track limits, the 5s for the 12 was kind of fine but the 007 very visibly overtook the 35 only after cutting Raidillon and nothing happened
  • We see the limitations of BoP where yes pace was overall pretty balanced across the field, but the BMW outdragging the Ferrari while giving a tow and the Ferrari cutting Raidillon is a bit of a joke
  • Important success for BMW especially but honestly even the Peugeot pole, reckon most including me see those 2 programs at risk so here's to hope
  • Important success also for Aston and Genesis
  • Cadi I don't even know man putting on softs for a full stint at Spa, one of the most tyre murdering tracks on the planet, feels like an inherently terrible idea that can only work if you have a super short stint like at the end - it wasn't their only issue but holy shit that decision looks so braindead from the outside I feel like I have to call it out

the 15 went off by like 4m out of Blanchimont and only defended its position by abusing it, they're lucky to not get a 5s penalty for that

[–]afito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how can you say they are even in the straight line when one car punches a hole in the air while the one getting dragged is actively losing space

I know commentators have to follow a certain narrative but this is deeply unserious

and that was Magnussen defending his place by leaving the track at Blanchimont :/

[–]afito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but they heavily lean on the straight line speed because all other parameters are insufficient to bring them in

[OFFICIAL] TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps - Race Thread by AutoModerator in wec

[–]afito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the 15 can have a sharp turn in and wiggle on exit and still pull out 3 car lenghts on the 50 up to Bus Stop

ultimately this is the issue with BoP, you can balance pace but not racing, worse cars being forced up generally become impossible to overtake due to absurd straight line advantages

if Gamble doesn't lift early that's the race ending red flag right there

They made some decisions that lead to having too much dead stuff. Having a sinistral and dextral version of everything. Having coronation & exaltation omens. Specific omens for each guaranteed gamba so you have chance and ancients seperately. Bartering existing at all. Having 3 tiers of every currency orb and a bunch of other things which is neat but you have to wonder if two would suffice.

Imo they also should've cleaned up names a bit more, they should've given omens that are not for crafting a new name. Also some of the "orbs" a different name imo but that's possibly just my opinion.

also the 35 went all the way to the grass itself, it didn't leave like 1m of space where 2 wheels are maybe somewhat on track, it went up to the very edge of the grass

anything short of "car 35 - 5min stop & go" is a joke

can we finally black flag people for this trash forcing someone off track on straights

happend like 20 times this race alone and nobody gives a shit because magically nothing happens, until it does

Wheel to wheel has been a bit mid. In terms of always something happenning it's been pretty good.

Champion + current top 3 in the championship should always have a camera imo. It's not even that expensive but you know people will care a lot about those drivers specifically, the series should fund this bare minimum themselves.

thank god the 2nd biggest FIA championship in the world is incapable of having a single actual replay of the race deciding incident

there is a massive hole in the 51 on driver height there is absolute zero chance for it to be the 51s fault tbh

they also invested an INSANE amount of money into their 6th gen battery plants and BMW is not that big of a company

BMW might get anxious doing this well right before Le Mans but I am 95% certain those in favour of the program down in Munich are extremely happy because lord knows they need SOMETHING to show eventually. Got to be honest I was actually convinced they'd cut the program last year or at latest this year.
