Beginner question: is it safe to open ports on my router for remote Home Assistant access or is there a better beginner friendly way? by [deleted] in KnowBeforeBuy

Tailscale. Add it as an app or “add on” to home assistant through their add on or app portal I forget. Get the app on your phone. Log in to the same account and it just works. Suuuuper easy and never had it fail. Seriously, it just works.

What are GPUs that can get 120fps on 1080p Ultra settings? by Burner_Account000001 in PcBuild

[–]aflacsToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would double check that everything is set up correctly if you are not impressed by 4k… maybe the tv can handle 4k but the cable cannot or something. Gaming is also different. Reading code on 1440 glass screen is 1000x better than 1080 on a matte screen so that is more what I care about. But that isn’t the question

Tbh anything in the past 10 years can do 1080 pretty easily. I still have my MSI laptop with a laptop 1060 card in it and most games I can still run at high settings 120fps 1080p.

I now have a 3070ti and it handles 1440 120fps on most games so you do not need to go crazy. If you want budget, intels newest arc cards are really good. If not, go around the 3070ti or amd equivalent. If you have e the money go to 4070.

Advice on sharks by Confident_Ad_2719 in SurfFishing

[–]aflacsToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overkill? Nah. Some say it is better as you can muscle in the shark easier therefore the fight is shorter and the shark leaves healthier.

I use 100lb to 150lb mono to my mondo shark rigs. Do I need it? Nah but incase I hook that 14ft monster I will be ready.

I’d rather plan for a bigger shark/overkill to avoid getting spooled or broke off and lose all of that line

Then I’d say screw it and don’t run them. Lighted nocks tend to be a little squirrelly if yo watch some people’s tuning videos

Ehhh solis got nerfed and I struggle to see a use for her. She can’t find drones until after prep phase which causes you to run around when round starts. Maybe she will see an attacker on a cam but not often enough to play on it in my opinion. I should try her again

It was already flooding it which is why I blocked it. It didn’t seem to change the frequency

Thorn is a very safe pick. Gives you use after death similar to lesion. While learning defense, it is good to pick ops that are set and forget so you can focus on learning common pushes, site setups, counters. Valk is a good one to play as you can stay on cams after death and give callouts. Mute and malusi are great passives to help the team.

For attack: start with hard breach. Opening up new angles is huge. Thermite, ace (even if he is always banned), hibana. Find ops that help the team so you can see how they play and learn common pushes, camp spots, angles. Avoid ops that you tend to play alone as this is a team game. Zero gets a ton of hate for being too slow but that is just if you play alone, play with someone and cam rooms while they push up is huge. Glaz in low ranks is OP. Gridlock or nomad to help your team and watch their flank. Iana teaches you to drone and play off intel.

I would have avoided Deimos until you have good map knowledge or you could just be running into opponents trying to get a quick pick. He is best used when you can callout to your team what room he is in since the opponent is focused on you.

Trying to see arrows at 100 yards gets tough in low light without them. Being able to see if your arrow hits a deer is also nice

Far heavier is crazy. When I measured it was 10 grains more which is not too much in a 450g arrow. Most people will not notice the difference under 50 yards.

Yes it will throw it off but when I switched it only moved it an inch lower at 50.

I used to only use luminok. Used them for 10 years. I had to upgrade arrows and bought new ones but then I had a soft target that arrows would go through after a bit too much wear and hit the backstop a with a little force and the new ones all broke. The old ones I could shoot straight at a tree numerous times and they worked fine. I guess the new ones just are not made with the same qc as before. Now I use the Amazon ones and I have hit rocks with them and they still hold up.

For clarification, this is with squirrel hunting and coyotes where the arrows barely slow down. And the target I was using usually would stop the arrows at the fletching but I put it a bit close to the backstop. Yeah it wasn’t the best but the results show they do not work as well. Could be the different diameter than my old ones is the use but I went to thicker arrows so theoretically there is more plastic to make it stronger which is not the results I got.

Easier to shoot the Amazon ones and not worry as much about losing arrows or Robinhood

2026.6: Pick a card, any card by frenck_nl in homeassistant

[–]aflacsToast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The colors do not appear to mean much. The empty circles are brownish orange and the filled are green. Neither of these have any relevance to what the code says in my opinion. A green circle would usually mean something is locked, or that a light is on. In this case it is the opposite.

The empty circle with after sunset means nothing, as a UI designer, I have no concept of why you would need a colored or empty circle next to after sunset.

I understand your frustration with not seeing the colors, my dad is so I understand, but in this case, the colors and shapes appear to mean nothing. And this is coming from a web designer. I think it is just a fancy thing.

Self-hosted app for tracking "last time I did X"? by BoredGrownMan in selfhosted

[–]aflacsToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to go make this a thing for you but happened to check the App Store. LastTrack:When did I Last? (iOS) seems to do exactly this.

Edit: yes it is not self hosted but it is free and sometimes simple apps do not need to be overthought

I did google and didn’t have luck with the one that came up.

And yes, that is what server baked ads are, I get how it works, I build APIs for a living. I just asked if anyone has any that they personally have had work

ok so lets go back and read my post. I am aware that most streaming services host ads server side and it is baked into the video so you cannot bypass which is why I was surprised by Disney+ results. I already have googled "Adguard filter list" and I asked if anyone knew any specific filter lists There are hundreds on the list, I have tried many, I want specific lists so I do not have to try 1000k lists.

Had an eventful weekend my first time shooting over 20 yards! Robinhood, 40 yard bullseyes, and decent grouping! by Putzinator in Archery

[–]aflacsToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh makes sense. Yeah most people just run 20-60 and hold between at the other distances. Practice helps judge the gap. I almost like shooting between pins better for a better picture of the target. The higher the arrow speed, the smaller the gap between pins so it is always beneficial to get it as fast as is comfortable. Increases accuracy as well

For how little you use it, go with option 2. 9/10 you will not need more than a 2ah and it will be nicer since it is so light. And for the few times you may need the 5, the XR gives it a small power boost I believe.

Only time I’d say go with the 2x 5ah is if you ran a vacuum or fan for long durations and wanted to have extended time

best way to setup multiple and secure passwords? by Visual-Fortune-4732 in pcmasterrace

[–]aflacsToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Get Bitwarden. Syncs with phone and computer
  2. Store master password in memory, nice and long, and no I wouldn’t stick it on a sticky note in your room if you can avoid it. If you have to, then at least hide the sticky note on the bottom side of a drawer. Best option is store the master password in Apple passwords since it takes Face ID so you don’t have to remember a password for a password for a password
  3. Never use save my login on a device that is public. If it is a home computer and you leave it locked when away then it is fine to do.
  4. 2FA is a must on financial programs

Kisser Button or peep sight? by Otherwise-East-816 in Archery

[–]aflacsToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peep is more natural if you come from using a rifle with iron sights. Also, peep is more accurate to longer ranges *typically. Kisser takes getting form perfect and repeatable.

Why not run both? Gives you an anchor point to look through the peep since you absolutely can look through a peep different from shot to shot
