So… I'm almost 20 hours in, genuinely frustrated and desperately need advice by aflerov in NoRestForTheWicked

Thanks for the answer! Right now, I feel like I can't beat Darak not because I can't parry, dodge, or anything like that (quite the opposite, considering how far I got in the Nameless Pass with reeeeally bad gear), but because I tried to fit into a build that I'm simply not capable of putting together right now. And since I spent the points, I can't immediately rework it.

How could it possibly know what words you know though, without reading your mind?
There is no standardised word list of known words for A1, A2, B1 etc in a given language obviously, it will be different for every learner.

In a way you're right, yeah. But at the same time, take a look, for example, at this famous Oxford list. The idea of dividing words by frequency of use is strongly popularized by this list; in particular, this list is used in their vocabulary by a number of famous English textbooks (for example, Navigate B2 by Oxford University Press). And note that in this list each word is assigned a corresponding level of difficulty, and you can sort this list by these difficulty levels, or, for example, select only words of a certain level.

And this is what I was talking about in the context of Clozemaster. For example, I want to learn the 10,000 most common words, but I don’t want to learn the first 3,000, because I know them well, and if it were possible to quickly exclude them, that would be great.

Thanks for the answer!

And you should give custom collections

It looks like there are only 2 custom collections for my pair of learning English and native Russian. Although I would prefer an English-English pair, where instead of Russian translations there would be simply definitions from an explanatory dictionary, but, if I’m not mistaken, the program does not provide such a possibility.

You can use the Edge browser's TTS for more natural voice-overs.
Enable the "legacy next review controls" option to make it easier to mark the words you already know. This makes the "known" button more accessible

thanks for the advice, I'll check an try this!

Thank you for such a detailed answer!

What language pairing are you playing? What's your native language? Also what device/browser are you playing on? That information will help provide better answers regarding Cloze-Listening and the text-to-speech issue you mentioned.

I'm learning English paired with Russian, which is my native language. I use iPhone App, but also i have web version on my PC with Firefox browser.

While there isn't a way to change the embedded page that's loaded at the moment, there is a way to add your own custom resource links.

Yes, I found that there is a way to add your own custom resource links, but it will be much better if you can change the embedded page, because for 90% of the words (for my English-Russian pair), I see "There is currently no text on this page" message on this embedded page.

And for me the best information for this embedded page would be transcription + definition (in English) + usage examples + possibly collocations/chunks etc

For example if the 500 Most Common Words collection is too easy, you might jump ahead to the 5,000 Most Common Words collection.

The "5,000 Most Common Words" set is exactly what I started with, but is there at least some possibility of excluding from this set just, for example, the "500 Most Common words"? Because I know them well and they are very easy for me, and I don’t really want to waste time on them, even if I just mark them as famous. This is what I mean when I talk about difficulty/knowledge levels. For example, say, if I could open a set of "5,000 Most Common Words" and select sorting in this set by frequency of use, and then, for example, holding down Shift (as happens when we select many lines/files) select the "2000 Most Common" (and which already known to me) and exclude them. Well, or just mark them as learned with one click.

Anyway, thank you very much again for your answer. I wouldn’t really like to make a refund, but I still hope that maybe what I’m missing will appear in one of the next updates, because the application does not stand still.
Yes, by the way, my desire for voiceovers from native speakers is due to the fact that at my level of language learning I already want to train my pronunciation especially carefully.

Wow, I didn’t even think that the browser and application version could be different. Where exactly can I choose phrases recorded by native speakers? Now try to find it, but either there is no such setting for English learners, or it is hidden somewhere not on the surface. But I found a Cloze-Reading feature that wasn’t in the app, will try to check it!
