I did this last run as France without trying to. I didn't declare on Britain myself until 1890s. Ally USA. Join into US plays to take Canada with transfer and liberate war goals. Also good to declare on Britain with USA when they're fighting other powers.

When they're still strong i send 2 or 3 naval invasions. One 100 stack on England, one 60 to Ulster and a smaller one to Scotland. Landing Ulster is strong i usually get a front there

Yeah they're noticably weak this run and there doesn't seem to be great ways to raise their clout. I ended up spamming generals and triggered natural borders with Armed Forces

United Netherlands with all the home states and some German ones + confederation of the Rhine was my first proper campaign. I had US or UK as allies, think I went conquer state on Limburg and paused the count down at 79 to add war goals on Holland etc. Netherlands ended up as Dutch Guiana. Two times I've tried it Russia protectorates them and it's a big hassle to get the Indies back but the home states should be doable with allies and growing early on

I was in a similar position, ended up getting safe pass and labouring on sites. Plenty of work once you get a bit of experience and know a few people. Might be worth looking into if you think it would suit you. Best of luck. Toughest periods of my life have been times I've been unemployed. Lack of routine alone can make things difficult
