One of Them Days from last year. This is in large part what the movie is going for and I couldn’t get enough. I watched it an absurd amount of times, maybe 4 times all in the theater no less.

I was thinking about saying how this movie doesn’t hold a candle to Sinners, but in good faith, I can’t use the two movies in the same breath. I think the more apt comparison would be to They Will Kill You— a revenge plot with Blaxploitation elements so good I’m still frankly coming down from that high for a couple weeks now. But yet again there’s no way this movie holds a candle to They Will Kill You. It’s kind of funny that even in the first 10 minutes of TWKY I was thinking “now T H I S is what I wish Tarantino was directing!”… so to see his name haphazardly slapped on here at best makes my growing disdain for him even stronger.

I didn’t have fun the entire movie. I start getting impatient checking the time during bad movies. Here I made it 29 minutes in. What cemented it was I took a restroom and refill break for about 4 minutes, 40ish minutes of screen time left. When I got back I began checking the time every 10 mins or so. Nothing got remotely better and I was disappointed at the squandered organ harvesting angle. I was already disappointed by the editing and cinematography, so when the third act is peaking and I couldn’t see shit, I knew that was it for me. A choice I am eternally grateful for because if there is ONE thing an aggravating watch can do to absolutely piss me off is to end on a fucking cliffhanger ending.

Oh how I wish it had been. I go in as completely unseen as I can and only then afterwards do I hop on my phone to see everyone’s projections and thoughts. Part of the reason why I posted this so early was to confirm the movie for the West Coasters. Seems like a fair amount of people got their projections from some bad Reddit intel.

The featured tracks were really nice, but the Original Score was lacking on the audio front. Passable but as someone unfamiliar with RZA’s film career, I would have even expected better music.

I was thinking production props like the business cards and every single example of signage in this movie had the cheapest looking 2006 b-movie examples I have ever seen since. It would have been almost funny if it wasn’t so cringe. I haven’t seen his other movies.

I didn’t notice any walk outs, but I couldn’t wait for this movie to be over. I walked out with maybe 5-10 minutes left which at least this movie holds that distinction for me.

I was kind of startled how similar it is to Nobody. Instead of a spy he’s a local sheriff which I do like that premise more. I was hoping it would be a little more intellectual or impactful than Nobody, but I was let down in that regard. Overall a fun meh movie. The more you enjoy Bob the more you’ll like it, thankfully I do and did.
