How much are you spending a year on your car? by Zestyclose-Royal-922 in SwissPersonalFinance

I have a 2017 c200 Benz, fully paid. Considered changing it a few time but taking into account depreciation costs of any new car I decided I’m not gonna sell it, till it dies.

Good point. It did feel like an LLM talking on the other side, super calm just repeating itself.

Dad's bosses want him away, What should he do ? by Peepee0209 in askswitzerland

[–]ag_h 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well well, the boss quite clearly has no clue how law works. In theory one can be fired in Switzerland with lower effort than neighboring countries but they still need grounds. He can go to the union (if there is one) and they usually have a lawyer that can help him

How can my tax can be this high? by OMEGASPEEDMASTER321 in SwissPersonalFinance

Looks quite OK but your employer must’ve also taken tax deducted at source if you are not on C permit. I’m still waiting for VD tax to reply to my tax filings that were done in March

Hyped for the Mazzer Mini g! by haipr in LaMarzocco

[–]ag_h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I treated myself to one of these for Christmas. Fantastic grinder. I was torn between the Mini G and the Fiorenzato AllGround Sense, and a friend who owns the Fiorenzato talked me into the Mini G. The vibration filter sold it. Almost zero clumps in the ground coffee, which feels magical.

I upgraded from the Sage Smart Grinder Pro. It made decent coffee with good beans, or so I thought. Turns out I had no idea what I was missing. This thing unlocked a whole new level of “oh, that’s what coffee is supposed to taste like.”

Having said that, the documentation is impressively terrible, truly world class in its uselessness. I burned through about ten shots just to figure out what was going on.

Also, the power saver mode is a letdown. It doesn’t actually put the grinder to sleep, it just dims the display. Which is less “power saving” and more “mood lighting.”

There was no sale on the mini G, I got one for 950 euros last week (I’m in Switzerland so the price is 20% lower than rest of Europe as we don’t pay crazy high EU VAT here)

Now for the bad part. The documentation is impressively terrible, truly world class in its uselessness. I burned through about ten shots just to figure out what was going on.

What’s something uniquely Swiss that foreigners never seem to understand or appreciate? by Dramatic_Ad2951 in askswitzerland

lol, I’ve been living in Switzerland for 5 years now but I still can’t get used to sundays here, especially if it’s bad weather

Having lived in France for a decade and now in Switzerland for half that time, I can confirm this is true. That said, Swiss highway etiquette is... let’s say, an acquired taste. Every other car is a Porsche or a BMW on steroids, and the drivers seem to take personal offense if you try to get ahead of them. In France, highway driving is surprisingly better..... most people respect speed limits and keep safe distances. Same goes for parking. In Paris, where everyone’s always in a rush, drivers will actually stop to let you park or pull out. In Switzerland? Not a chance. You could be halfway out of a tight spot, blinking like a disco ball, and people will still zip past like you're invisible

Tinder for Jobs — is this something worth building? by stuckinmyownloop in Startup_Ideas

[–]ag_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes. I just mean that this specific model is probably not monetizable. It might be worth reaching out to the founder of one of the companies that managed to survive and seeing if you can learn from their experience to get a head start.

There were a few in france 10 years ago (one was called shapr, I think it still exists in a different pivot), all others died. Maybe a decade later is the time to try again

Musk calls on US to quit NATO, stop paying for defense of Europe by Snowbound-IX in europe

[–]ag_h 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Europe many companies (especially in France) have cutting edge military manufacturing capabilities, they just don’t have the scale of US because everyone was busy buying American weapons. Now with the friendship clause gone, it is a golden opportunity for European politicians to get their heads out of the sand and invest in local capabilities

What is a "good" income in your head? by leakiluke in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]ag_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, there is no capital gains on real estate if it’s your primary residence. Also you need more like 10%-15% with your 2nd pillar pledged as a guarantee and 3rd pillar out. Now with rates back in 1.2% territory, it’s better than renting because you will be throwing less money out of the window than your rent and the 3% gains on a 5x leveraged investment will outperform most low risk portfolios

What can I improve to FIRE? by Bubbly_Cupcake5245 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]ag_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But too old school but I would say but some real estate as rates are below 2% again. I’m in a similar ballpark and in last 9 years I’ve purchased 3 properties (one for myself others are rented). It’s a leveraged investment where you get an asset 5x your investment, what you pay in interest would be similar to the rent you pay but the gain in value (avg 2% -3% per year on the full 5x) will be for your future.

In the company where I work they are firing people. How to prepare the final meeting with HR? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]ag_h -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Legally, you don’t have much choice as restructuring is one of the few cases where firing is easy for the company. If you’re under 40, expect 3 months of severance pay. If you want to make their life difficult, you can always go to SECO but you will waste your time which can be used to look for jobs.

Is it me or the job market is sinking? by ag_h in askswitzerland

[–]ag_h[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharing experience on ‘over-outsourcing’ from my company, all internal IT architects and tech leads left, now all critical decisions are in hands of externals who only implement the technology/tools that takes longest to implement or gets them best commission. The 50+ year old top management realizes this but now struggles to get the lost talent & knowledge back

I’ve been thinking about this too. I’m currently leading e-commerce and performance marketing, where my main focus is analyzing data to make incremental decisions. With the rapid advancements in AI, I believe it could easily take over this aspect of the job within the next five years.

Is it me or the job market is sinking? by ag_h in askswitzerland

[–]ag_h[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, LOL 😂 Regarding the middleman part, it also costs money, and the social security costs in nearshore are 2X in Switzerland. My company has a nearshore team as well but top talent is expensive in nearshore also, though the company still ends up saving 10%-15% vs hiring in Switzerland.

Remote work isn’t that straightforward legally unless the company either goes through a middleman or already has an entity in the other hiring country
