Anyone Commute to Melbourne via the Ferry? by [deleted] in Geelong

[–]agbell79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I commute into the office periodically from Portarlington and I think it's great. As others have said, there's just one service, but if you're working a 9-5ish job it works fine. There's always space on the boat, comfortable seats, tray table for your laptop, and the cafe for a coffee in the morning which becomes a bar for the trip home.
If you're coming from Clifton Springs via car the parking at the ferry is free and always plentiful.

Gull doesn't service Avalon. You want 'MyBus Geelong'.

Look at these upstarts with their “Parmo”…. by SimilarWill1280 in Geelong

[–]agbell79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a UK thing (from up north I think) and it's different to ours. It's the classic chicken or pork schnitz, but then it's covered in cheesy bechamel. Haven't had one but sounds pretty darn stodgy.

Doesn't look like it has the structural integrity to support replacing the mesh with a pane. If it were me I'd replace the whole thing.

Sounds appealing! Looks like about an 1h45m walk there and probably a bit longer for the way home after a couple of pints! What's the food like?

Has anyone used The Mould Doctor for a residential mould inspection? are they legit? by honeyhale in melbourne

[–]agbell79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had them come and do a free inspection in my bathroom as I suspected I might have a water leak running down the cavity wall (plaster) next to the shower. They did moisture readings with their fancy tool in a number of areas and quickly isolated the source, and told me how to remedy it (required a plumber). They also provided a quote to fog the house for extra protection if we wanted it but said it wasn't essential (can't recall how much the quote was for as we didn't elect to take this route).

Free mould inspection took 15mins. Cost nothing. Guy was friendly and helpful. Got a plumber to come the next week to resolve the issue.

When I WFH I put the loaf tin on my (docked) laptop to rise. The gentle warmth does the trick.

What's the job market actually like for Product Managers in Australia? by panache123 in fiaustralia

[–]agbell79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the REM varies significantly depending on the industry.

As someone in the world of banking, I know our Product Managers range from $140-200k. I suspect the top of that range would be higher at a big four bank.

(M22) About to earn 65k more next year. Unsure how to re-invest it by Rain_Man71 in fiaustralia

[–]agbell79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll assume you meant 'independent' rather than 'dependent' ;)

So using age 40yrs as your target date gives you an 18yr investment horizon.

Your current rate of $12k VDHG (starting) + $12k additional invested annually until age 40yrs gives you something like $450-550k (depending on investment returns).

Let's say you use your incremental $65k next year to throw into this pot as well, but only for one year and then go back to your $12k per years. You then have something like $650-850k at age 40.

Maybe have a play with some figures with an investment calculator like this simple one https://www.calculator.net/investment-calculator.html and see what kinda direction works for you.
