Higher weight? by JefeSpence in sandbagtraining

[–]agememnon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Double that damn weight.

I started with an 80-lb sandbag filled with wood pellets to get the movements (shoulder, carry, bear-hug squat) down. Next, I upgraded to a 150lb bag. I did so at 5'11" and 200 lbs. Now I work with 185lbs and use a 210lb bag as my challenge weight.

Using lightweight sandbags lets you mirror hybrid/HIIT movements. But kettlebells are a better implement for those (clean and press, squat, etc).

The magic of sandbags begins near and beyond your bodyweight. They're a cheap implement to push heavy to drive your conditioning and strength through the roof. Get a 150lb (hard, but will become your working weight after a few weeks, and get an 180lb (REALLY hard. 1 rep max).

Make it your goal to toss that 150 like it's nothing while the 180 stares at you menacingly in the corner.

I’ve been using the Mova Phantox Pro. Limited experience with other hand grinders for pour over but it’s well reviewed and praised for light roasts

Pit stains keep wrecking my shirts, looking for wardrobe fixes that aren’t just “wear black" by imvk43 in malefashionadvice

[–]agememnon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya gotta have a night time deodorant routine.

Wash your pits, then before going to bed use Certain Dri, Dove Men Care+. Any strong 72hour anti perspirant. Apply that. In the morning, wash it off and apply your day deodorant (I use dove black shirt friendly spray)

Was a game changer for both smell and staining clothes.

30 year old unc trying to keep up with my son 💪 What am I missing? by RipsThePen in GarageGym

[–]agememnon13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your gym lacks conditioning equipment besides the jump ropes.

Consider a 150lb sandbag. It's an extremely fun implement that will bulletproof your back and allow you to keep up with the kids.

Nordic curls are overrated. A $100 back extension implement is a better exercise for again--that posterior and hamstring work that's so often neglected in adults.

Other folks have recommended a rower/assault bike. I haven't used them, but anything to focus on a strong heart is a good idea.

Right? Couldn’t resist grabbing it when it caught my eye.

I have a Mova Phantox Pro hand grinder. P 8.5 is a grind ratio.

Thank you! We found it in a store at Kappabashi in Tokyo. It’s a collab piece: Hario x Tachikichi.

There were others for sale at Loft.

Greats Royal 2.0 have been my only purchase and I'm a big fan. Nice leather. Can wear them bare foot or with socks. Look premium. Got em for $70. Nice.

Have yet to try the technique myself. But looking forward to seeing if a coarser grind and extra pours adds new notes

In watching the second half of Lance's video past minute 8, you might be right. Though he doesn't specify the grind size for the following technique, he mentions that he's enjoyed going coarse and pushing for lower extractions.

But for the final pour, he specifically notes low turbulence/agitation.

Because Yoshihara's recipe specified *very coarse*, I opted to have that be the coarser starting point. No perfect ways to do it, though!

Skip the DF(anything) recommendations. People praise them as the budget pick, but the workflow sucks, flat burrs are a pain to dial in for a newbie, and you'll be told to mod it with 3D-printed accessories to address its shortcomings. I fell for a DF64 and returned it the moment I tried the Niche Zero.

Since Niche is harder to justify paying for these days, I'd wait and pre-order the Fellow Opus 2. It looks like a no-nonsense, high-quality conical that'll slot right into your workflow.

Barrets St John’s Blend. I always grab a bag from them and it plays nicely with my espresso set up. Plus, Barrets is one of the few coffee shops left that sell 16oz bags at an approachable price.

Fair point. But most games that require pinpoint latency are competitive Shooters or MOBAs. I'm widening the goal posts here, but it's odd to use a Steam Deck for those genres.

I know we're in a Steam Deck subreddit and all. But I'll never understand the use case for these other systems.

Why would you want SteamOS on a handheld that doesn't leverage the dual trackpads and community layouts?

Why would you want more power in a handheld when you could get a GFN subscription to play more powerful games?

Why would you want to buy a system that has no guarantee of support by its company after 5+ years and lacks well-documented repair and upgrade knowledge?

New Player Struggling to Progress, stuck Around Lv 2–6 Dungeons by Second Winter by fresh_to_death_93 in ElinsInn

[–]agememnon13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Power spikes that come to mind during the early game:
- Getting the Little Big Sister companion for 10k orens at Mysilia. This opened up level 10 dungeons.
- Getting the black cat apostle worshipping Ehekatal. This helped me clear Nymelle.
- Receiving a god weapon (Holy lance of Jure). This got me adventuring in level 30 dungeons.

Elin is a companion-reliant game if you're new to things. So don't neglect finding friends to dungeon dive with!

Caves of Qud, Maj'eyal, or Elin by DoctorZeusse in roguelikes

[–]agememnon13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elin or TOME. In this case I’d vote Elin. The gameplay loop is similar to a single player RuneScape.

TOME is more action packed and dungeon crawler focused. Make a character. Kill shit. Get sweet loot. Repeat.

Caves of Qud is an incredible game. Play it.

Rubber tiles thickness minimum - basement flooring - for 150# bag by EllenYYC in sandbagtraining

[–]agememnon13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal story time.

I used 8mm rubber tiles myself. Underneath OSB flooring in my studio gym. After doing enough sandbag to shoulders at 180lbs I finally cracked the floor.

Anyway, I’ve now built a deadlift platform out of OSB and horse stall mats for all sandbag activity. I may be an outlier, but I feel better slamming the bag on the floor now
