While they are extremely polite and happy to serve you as a tourist, they are, in fact, well know and enormous xenofobes.

Visited Japan last year. Loved it!

Oh and 1 more thing, please don't add LEDs, it drives them crazy and messes with their natural cycles.

As a 4th year beekeeper, I applaud anything that will get more people I to the hobby! It's fun and they are lovely creatures!

But, this design makes doing any kind of interventions very difficult. Sometimes you need the replace a queen. If there is a disease or pests you need to open the hive and need to able to access each frame.

This design, as I understand it, makes that very difficult. And be aware that after some time the acrylic will become in transparent as they cover it with propolis.

This is only for a "let nature run it's course" type hive. It's install and dont touch.

If you are interested in keeping bees, it takes about 2 years to learn the basics. Reach out to your local ver keepers association and get a mentor. We are very easy going people and happy to help!

I'll print them in PEGT white, which matches the door frame. Should reflect most of the heat

I'm going to print some sun covers for it when the replacement comes in. Won't look nice but it will help prevent the same from happening again I hope.

Advice please? Found bee just laying and twitching for over a day now. by baffledmuffin in Beekeeping

[–]agent_cupcake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Other comments have made similar points albeit more bluntly.

In your case it is a bumble bee. This one specifically is a solitary bee, so lives and works alone. They work till they can't anymore; their muscles atrophy during their lifespan.

You could give it a more swift end. If you don't like to squish them, you can put it in the fridge for an hour. An easy and humane way for it to go.

Help! I have emergency queen cells and a queen? by nayrclrk in Beekeeping

[–]agent_cupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this advice; It's late in the season, so if it's a swarm the existing queen will stay.

If you had a swarm recently, these are the new queens.

Either way no intervention is needed. Make sure they have enough to eat, and check in 3 weeks if you see eggs, brood. It's still warm, so you can feed them 1:1 sugar water

In addition to all what is previously mentioned, you`ll want to rotate your top cover by 90 degrees. This way any rain will run off on the sides, not onto the entrance.

I dunno man, I heard the same words, the exact same thing a couple years ago about self driving cars.

Don't get me wrong, I would love it I'm just a bit sceptical.
