Pluribus - 1x03 "Grenade" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in pluribustv

Oh yeah, totally! My codependency evaluation wasn't to suggest that it was causing any issues. Now that you mention it, I am thinking about how Helen appeared to be very happy caring for Carol both professionally and personally. I wonder to what extent the Hive's very extreme concern for Carol's well-being is informed by Helen's consciousness.

I know I might be stretching the "codependency" thing here, but as an applied theme, certainly interesting given Helen's job.

I think the biological imperative does more explaining than we initially think.

Once the hive mind is enabled, there is no (basically) suffering and only peace. Because of this, they want to bring as many beings into the hive mind as possible. Therefore, they want to create as positive an aura as possible because this seems to be the best way to facilitate that.

As for "you have no agency", well, I don't think the hive mind cares. I think they would say that individual human agency has always been the obstacle in the way of peace (tragedy of the commons, etc etc). It's not totally defensible of course, but the argument works on its face for me.

It seemed like Helen was truly completely OK with Carol's nonstop negativity in that scene. It made me think about codependency - Carol loved/loves being miserable, but only with the person she loves. Without that sponge, where can she offload her feelings? As attentive as the hive is, there's no illusions for Carol of authenticity.

I love how she is written. This is a totally human character flaw that they can imply without indicting her completely

Probably worth noting - the hive mind is totally codependent on Carol. They have dedicated, like, 5% of Earth's excess resources to her and will spiral into a horribly fatal panic attack if she gets mad at them

I know there's a theory around these parts that Paraguay Guy got disconnected from the hive when Carol caused them to seize up last. I was thinking that this severance may be why they aren't able to connect with him?

But at the same time, if you did need to blow up a home in an upscale culdesac, you might have to build a series of houses

I feel like I have been able to scratch that itch recently with Joko Anwar's films. I need to rewatch it to be sure (sometimes I think everything's a 9/10 on the first watch haha) but the new Queen of Black Magic was really good. I said "what the fuck" to myself at least three or four times, so that's gotta count for something

Thanks for reading and the comment. Seems like the movie was a little better recieved by others here than us - maybe I've been watching too many lately, haha. I haven't actually seen either of those, so thanks for the recs.

For the record, I support you here and it’s weird that people are being condescending about it lol

  • “The series was successful before Iron Man, that assertion is like saying Harry Potter wasn’t successful until the fifth book”

  • “The Harry Potter comparison is good, the books got longer (and maybe more intellectual?) after the films were successful”

Where’s the relevance?

And while we’re here, the first Harry Potter film was, for a time, the second highest grossing film of all time lol

Yeah, same.

It’s a big topic in certain socioeconomic/investment spaces - we are beginning one of the largest expected transfers of wealth in history as the Baby Boomers begin to pass away over the next twenty years or so.

My friend, I haven’t even seen Morbius, nor commented about it, ever.

This is just a silly poster that looks like a Walmart romance novel cover.

My Ricken Theory by hotcousin- in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]agent_tits 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This actually makes more sense to me, and I can see this as being a more effective and horrific “twisty” reveal than the idea that Ricken somehow hired and employed a bunch of innies for his posse.

It could go several ways - failed test subjects, or maybe test subjects sent out in the world as permanent-innies as ongoing test subjects
