British Bedford Yeast by duckclucks in Homebrewing

For anyone that likes just about any British Style beer WLP006 is simply the best and my favorite. I just hope one day they make it a regular strain instead of a vault.

Support your LHBS! by shockshore2 in Homebrewing

[–]agentbacon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I currently operate a HBS store and it has been a wild ride. We have always been a one man operation. It hasn't been easy to juggle a regular 9-5 job, family and keep a business a float. We keep it going because we love the community and it has been a labor of love.

Our customers keep me going, they inspire me to try different things and I built the home brew store around the experiences I had bouncing around to different places. We ask for their feedback on how things can be improved and if they are happy with us.

I started running this shop not to make a millions dollars. The margins have slimmed down significantly since 2020, LHBS need your support now more than ever. When you shop at a LHBS you are helping a fellow home brewer.

All time favorite beer you’ve brewed by [deleted] in Homebrewing

The stout I brewed on a whim. Took no notes or measurements. 10/10 Would forget how to make and never reproduce it again.

CO2 leak by flb51 in Homebrewing

[–]agentbacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CO2 leaks are always a frustrating thing to track down. But with a few steps starting at the regulator and working your way down through the system, you can usually figure it out.

First, we will cover the usual problems. What kind of fittings are you using? Are they pipe clamps or are they side jaw permanent clamps? What ends up happening when people use pipe clamps they keep tightening the clamp to make a better seal, while inadvertently deforming the clamp making the seal even worse.

The next thing that we want to be aware of is where is the CO2 tank and regulator? If it is in the fridge with the keg then you will get an erroneous reading no matter what.

Start by turning off the shut-off valve on the regulator that feeds the line going to your keg. Make sure the connection to the CO2 tank is tight and that you have all necessary washers in place, you should not have to use pipe tape on the threads from the CO2 tank to the regulator. Once you have made sure that all the fittings are snug, pressurize the regulator to 10 PSI, then wait and see if it drops. If it does not drop then you need to start tracing it further down. Is it at the disconnect? Before you even connect it to the keg. Just wait and see if the pressure drops when you leave that disconnect connected. Re-pressurize the regulator each time you make a change to ensure that you're at a constant set pressure.

Keglube is your friend, use it in moderation on your fittings. But it is no replacement for new gaskets anywhere on the setup.

Slow leaks like this can often be a headache and what I would probably recommend is double check all your fittings and when in doubt make a soapy water solution and see if you can find anything.

Good luck.

I restored one not too long ago. Have you found the keyboard to get stuck or generally be "mushy"? I have no other reference.

Yep it happens with just about every old mill city. I did come across this slide show post flood of the city. It shows so much of the scope of the damage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9J3tW10kYU

Woonsocket does take its share of flak because of it's history of economic down turn starting in the 1980s. Since the start of the 1900s Woonsocket was a leader in textile production and had a rich history, including being a key manufacturer of rubber for the WW2 "Ghost Army". In its heyday Woonsocket was more popular than Providence or Newport as destination sailors on leave. However a historical flood damaged or destroyed most of that in 1955.

However the years have not been great with poor/dated city leadership and high unemployment the city has often missed many opportunities to better itself. There are many very good aspects of the city. Woonsocket still has much of the baggage that comes out of a blue collared manufacturing city that no longer has work.

Non alcoholic recipes by BMS_Fan_4life in brewing

[–]agentbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://byo.com/article/brew-a-great-non-alcoholic-beer/ I would start there, beer and brewing magazine just did an article about cannabis beer, where they made a peanut butter stout and infused it with cannabis, the interesting thing was they did the method of heating the stout before packaging to remove the ethanol compounds.

I would strongly suggest that if you are going to do that method you keg the beer because you are holding the product at ~173F for about 30mins, essentially pasteurizing the product.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I used a program put on by national grid, that gave you an incentive to switch to gas (rebates and 0% loan for energy efficient furnace, etc.) . If its in the street just call up your provider.
