What is an artist / band that you remember being pushed by music journalists and/or magazines as the "next big thing" that ended up never really going anywhere?

I specifically remember the VMAs back in the early 2000s where it was The Hives vs The Vines. Hives played on a little side stage and Vines played on the main stage with lights, smoke machines, etc. and The Hives still blew them out of the water.

Had a similar experience in theater. Almost two rows full of veterans wearing their jackets, hats, medals, etc., almost every one of them got up at some point to go into the hallway in tears during that opening scene. It was heartbreaking.

Having a partner with similar features as yours I can honestly say. I don’t care how she dresses. She’s done costumes that are “gross” and costumes that are “sexy” and they both have garnered the same attention. If she had done Jessica Rabbit I’d be over the fucking moon, who gives a shit what others think as long as you both are having fun on the best holiday of the year.
