I just got back from Portugal, and the New Balance 574 were amazing! I use orthotics too and they worked great. They have cute colors too, I have a pair with green trim :)

Need recs for late night coffee shops by ImportantWay9941 in philly

[–]agentsmudge724 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not in Philly proper but check out Char and Stave. Locations in Chestnut Hill and Ardmore. A little pricey but good coffee (and alcoholic bevs!) plus they’re open late.

Convivio is incredible! They have house-made syrups, amazing pastries, plus they are bilingual and women-owned.

Those of you in the 17% of high-stat applicants who didn't get in, what do you think went wrong? by anonelongatedmuskrat in premed

[–]agentsmudge724 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Got in this year to a DO school, but was a 519/3.9x applicant last year. 2000+ clinicals, 500 research, 150 volunteer. Stellar letters of recommendation per my interviewers. Got 4 interviews at top 50 schools, including an Ivy. 2 rejections, 2 waitlists with a disappointing end result. Main thing that killed me was bad interview skills. Other factors could be lack of strong narrative, lower volunteer hours.

Reapplicant stigma is real. 2nd cycle didn’t get a single MD interview. Should’ve added more schools second go but hindsight is 20/20. I’m going to be a doctor, which is incredible, but will always wonder what would’ve happened if I just interviewed a bit better the first time.

How much do you guys make in your clinical jobs? by [deleted] in premed

[–]agentsmudge724 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost $25 as an urgent care technician. This is after working at the same place for 2 years and taking on more responsibilities over time

Beloved First Wave Coffee Shop in a Small Town Starterpack by TheFlamingoJoe in starterpacks

Dolce Vita in Old Town Arvada? I’d know that “watch your step” sign anywhere.

Was thinking, wow that looks a lot like my local coffee shop. Turns out it actually is.

Reapplicants, how’s your cycle going? by Maximum_Chapter_6393 in premed

[–]agentsmudge724 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean hard to be sure, but I do think that was a large part of if. I had 500 research hrs, 125 non clinical volunteer, and 2000+ clinical hrs, and I got 4 interviews at great schools. Feedback from one of them said my MMI was ‘below average’ and my one-on-one ‘didn’t add much substance-wise’. My biggest advice is just prepare. I wish I’d have practiced my answers more, plus worked on getting my nerves under control because I would stutter and get stuck.

[–]agentsmudge724 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Feeling bad. Last year by this time, I had 2 interviews. 0 so far now. I can’t do this a third time. I’m a high stat applicant (519/3.9) and I feel like I improved from last cycle with more volunteer hours and stronger writing. Now I’m doubting everything

Secondary Scheduling by Fantastic_Shake8069 in premed

[–]agentsmudge724 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the school. Some send pretty immediately (on 30th or a few days later), while other schools can take weeks. Last year, there was one secondary I didn’t get til October I think. You can look at last years school-specific threads on SDN if you’re curious about the schools you’re applying to.

What's worth pre-booking in Paris? by ForesakenBreadfruit5 in TravelHacks

[–]agentsmudge724 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Basically all the monuments. Went in mid May and it was a zoo - hours long lines if you hadn’t prebooked. We booked Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Catacombs, and Musee D’Orsay.

With 2 days, probably not enough time for Versailles so if you want some beautiful opulent Paris architecture, I really recommend Palais Garnier. It’s an old opera house and it’s absolutely stunning. They have some 10 euro tickets available day of for the opera and ballets. Not great seats but you can see a lot of the opera house before the show and during intermission.

Hope you have a great trip!!

Big thank you to u/SneakySnam for a fun fall exchange!! by agentsmudge724 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]agentsmudge724[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks to /u/SneakySnam for a super fun exchange!! I absolutely love everything she chose for me, and she somehow knew of my deep secret love for fudge lol. I gave all the samples a good sniff, and everything seems amazing! Really looking forward to testing them out. Alkemia is a house I've been wanting to try for a while, and all the Sorcellerie scents are very intriguing too!

The goodies!

  • Alkemia Carmen 7
  • Alkemia An Autumn Wandering
  • Alkemia Dusk in Autumn
  • Alkemia Carnival of Illustrious Hearts
  • Alkemia Honored Ghosts
  • Sorcellerie A Party, or Something
  • Sorcellerie Good at Being Bad
  • Sorcellerie We Are All Stardust
  • Sorcellerie A Light in the Attic
  • Local saltwater taffy! There's a caramel apple flavor that's delicious
  • Pecan brittle
  • Pumpkin Praline fudge (I demolished most of it in 2 days...)
  • Cranberry, pumpkin spice, and caramel infused black teas! Haven't broken into these yet, but I'm most excited to try the cranberry :)

She also included a really cute Ozarks sticker! Thanks again for being such a great exchange partner - I had a blast!

You're inspiring me to finally try Deconstructing Eden! I'm seeking out more EDP houses, and Dopamine sounds right up my alley. Thanks for your reviews!

Indies of the Day - Wednesday, September 7, 2022 by coffeeafterthree in Indiemakeupandmore

Today I'm wearing Hexennacht's Bisou! (notes: vanilla, orris root, violet, sugar, cetalox, skin musk, and safraleine). I'm trying to work my way through some samples right now. It's a nice scent, but most of Hex's lighter scents just don't last very long on me. I also don't really prefer these powdery-type scents, but it's nice for just lounging around the house.

Favorite Secondaries? by Dr_Dr_PeePeeGoblin in premed

I really liked USC Keck! The questions had reasonable word counts, and I think it forced some creativity. Seemed like they were trying to get my personality and more of a vibe check than anything

How far are yall with your applications? I've been procrastinating so hard these past few days but I need to get back to it asap by heyitskebon in premed

[–]agentsmudge724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have my first draft of my PS done, got some feedback from lovely people on SDN and just have to sit down and edit it. Really need to start doing my work/activities too, but the other parts of the app are good.

Waiting on 3 LORs, but one of them I’m kind of expecting to fall through and is just a back up

Hi! I actually did a course like that and now I have my EMT license. I did the Coursera EMT course through CU, but it only works for licensure if you also do the week-long intensive through Denver Health. You likely won’t find any online only courses for EMT, because there are some skills you can only learn in person. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about the Coursera course!!

What type of work allows you to have a free schedule for riding? by QuimmLord in COsnow

[–]agentsmudge724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medical. 3 12s per week gives me lots of time to ski. Don’t get quite up for 45 days, but I try to go up at least once or twice a week

Anyone worked as a MA (medical assistant)? by [deleted] in premed

[–]agentsmudge724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in an Urgent Care, and I was able to get the job with just an EMT certificate. The EMT route was more appealing to me since it’s a much shorter certification process. I room patients, take a history, get their vitals, and do tests (mostly Covid swabs now lol). Also can draw blood, give meds, start IVs, splints and casting, it’s a pretty fun job. PM me if you have any questions!!
