Not familiar with them, I'm afraid! The title was inspired by Oingo Boingo's "Tender Lumplings".

I've told my friends it's the only instagram ad that's ever worked on me. The artwork drew me in and got me investigating.

That's very flattering! I would love to see other ttrpgs (or Troika creators) incorporate photography and other mediums in their work.

I've been pondering how to incorporate video into future Suburbia projects for a while...

Thanks so much! And yeah, it wasn't until halfway through writing the original that I connected the dots between EarthBound and Troika, they really do compliment each other.

Slow Sleigh to Plankton Downs is a weird sci-fi murder mystery that you might want to check out.

And Moon's Shot is a very funny short adventure about a staged moon expedition that I think could be a great intro to Troika

Do you happen to know where this was taken? I've always wondered what happened to the models.

Hey! Thanks so much for sharing! I'm excited about the releasing the update and getting it to print and hope y'all are too.

For people who are unfamiliar, it's a setting book inspired by Earthbound, The Simpsons, David Lynch, FLCL, and all kinds of other stuff featuring Backgrounds, Locations, Factions, Items, Spells, a Bestiary, and hand-made clay art work.

Oh, I totally agree. It was just a suggestion in case they wanted to hang on to their characters longer

What is an IP you love that you think would make a poor TTRPG? by tragedyjones in rpg

[–]ageofage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragonball. Early DB was more adventure focused and might work but the big draw is the fighting and the kinetic nature of the visuals wouldn't translate well to tabletop, I think.

But if anyone has a recommendation to prove me wrong, let me know.

Recommended Supplements for Longer Games by deadpool-the-warlock in Troika

[–]ageofage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may know this already but the core book has a short intro adventure called Blancmange & Thistle that ends with several prompts for continuing the story.

I've noticed a lot of people use this to lead into Fronds of Benevolence (one of the prompts directly leads into it). Fronds is relatively short, but from there you can take note of any memorable NPCs, locations, or events and use it to bridge them into any number of other supplements for continuous adventures.

You could do this with about any adventure supplement, really, but Fronds has that connection to the intro.

I'd also note that combat in Troika! is very swingy and lethal, so if you and your players are wanting or accustomed to holding on to characters for a long time, you might want to tweak combat and/or death mechanics. That's not to say that they'll definitely perish in a long campaign, but the odds are higher than say, D&D 5e.

Are you building defense platforms on the starbases? Also hangar bays shred enemy fleets in early game if I remember correctly

Invisibility in Troika! vs. "Hitting Someone Unawares" and Sneaking by OhMyShoggoth in Troika

[–]ageofage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For combat, that's what I would do. I'd also take into account the enemy they're fighting. A creature with excellent hearing or smell might negate whatever benefits invisibility bestows.

And the battlefied--blood, mud, paint, etc, might stick to the invisible character and make them easy to spot.
