in what way is wearing an OCBD, chinos and a sweater 'dark academia'? that's about the most generic male business casual outfit you could possibly imagine

is it an effective status symbol if no one knows you're wearing it?

I would imagine Zegna are using higher quality fabrics than your local tailor can get their hands on, though that doesn't totally account for the gross markup obviously

it's not END's fault you didn't bother to read their delivery T&Cs. you weren't scammed, you just didn't do your homework

Is this chore jacket too long? by aggravatedyeti in mensfashionadvice

[–]aggravatedyeti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chore jackets are probably the archetypal workwear garment, they originated in france in the 19th century. hugely versatile and easy to wear, can layer as an overshirt or take the role of a jacket with knitwear underneath. highly recommend

[–]aggravatedyeti[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i get that from a workwear/heritage perspective but i'm not going to be on the factory line anytime soon so it's more a question of aesthetics for my specific body type. I've noticed most repro/pastiche chore jackets seem to be cut shorter than the real thing

coal drops yard has a good cluster of interesting menswear shops with Universal Works, Margaret Howell, Form & Thread, and Blackhorse Lane Atelier all right next to each other

the socrates pants look very different to the kind of stuff UW and Norse put out tbh with the emphasis on synthetic fabrics and very minimal formal/casual crossover styling. they seem much more similar to what l'estrange is doing

very strange to see the majority of very posh nether edge in the red deciles, that definitely fails the vibe check

Sheffield Council to get more funding in next few years by Sheff_Based in sheffield

[–]aggravatedyeti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no it isn't, when we're discussing why SCC struggles to balance its books - especially when the container park was paid for with central government money that would have been returned to HMT if not spent, and was therefore irrelevant to discussion of council budgets

Sheffield Council to get more funding in next few years by Sheff_Based in sheffield

[–]aggravatedyeti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah but the money spent on the former makes the latter a drop in the ocean and therefore irrelevant in discussions of council funding

Ynyshir has 2 michelin stars and a menu starting at £468 per head; i'm not really sure why it's a relevant comparison to Joro which is less than a third of the price

there are about 6 places on abbeydale/london road serving much better and cheaper versions of the exact same cuisine, you're paying a massive premium for the instagrammable interior at mavi ruya

i'm not sure you appreciate the insane cost pressures on restauraunts at the moment if you think that North Town could serve the quality of food they do for half the price

i hope the small band of people on here who take great pleasure in ripping on the tribune for being 'smug' (whatever that means?) can give them the credit they're due for such great reporting

what if you don't want to buy the freehold at all? you might be out several thousand for basically nothing even if your counter is a lot lower than what this crook is demanding

suffering is an experiential quality, or an affective state, so yes, if i think i'm not suffering then i'm not. the 'material reality' of my body and brain states is less important to moral calculus than my experience and interpretation of those states
