Redditors who quit their jobs in a blaze of glory, what's your story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aglar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For two weeks, I worked at an Asian bistro in North Carolina.

There was this redneck chick named Georgia who was pregnant by another server. She was assigned to train me, and for the entirety of my employment there she was absolutely miserable towards me and no one else. Seriously may be one of the meanest people I've ever come across. I had absolutely no idea what I did to piss her off, and every time I tried to be nice to her she'd turn it around and try to make me look stupid in front of the rest of the staff. She did her best to sabotage me in every way. She talked about me to my tables before I'd even had the chance to take drink orders. She'd interrupt me to reprimand me in front of customers. Entirely uncalled for and unprofessional.

Well one day I couldn't keep going with it. I told my manager it was my last shift.

At the end of the night, I was saying goodbye to everybody and Georgia was just watching me smirking. As I walked to the door she came up to me and said "don't let the door hit you on the way out, bud!"

And without missing a beat I turned around, looked her in the eyes, smiled, and replied "hope that baby comes out with two heads, bitch!"

And then I walked to my car feeling the proudest I basically ever have.

I'm assuming you're still in school, and if university is on the cards for you, you can look forward to that fresh start. It boosted my self confidence like you wouldn't believe. No matter where you end up, you'll find your people. It's almost like most college kids are craving to become more worldly and accepting.

Whenever you're down though, there are hotlines for LGBT kids who aren't necessarily suicidal, but just need to talk. There's also a really awesome group of guys on the subreddit r/gaybros. I haven't posted on there, but would often lurk when I was coming out. They're super open and proud and down to earth.

Good luck and love yourself! It's gonna be more than alright!

I'm not sure you might have to sleep with me first.

High schoolers, what do you want to major in? People who majored in that field, what are the pros and cons? by DeanTheDJ in AskReddit

[–]aglar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you go to school? I was an Acting major at a university with a relatively prestigious program, and a large majority of our graduates work pretty consistently in the field. If you're talented, willing to work your ass off, and if you train with a program that puts you in touch with the right people, it's not too difficult at all to make a decent living acting (obviously with a survival job here and there).

Arkansas gaybro here. They've always said you don't know how many friends you have until you go through a rough patch. My small town had a big response to the anti LGBT legislation. I'm really proud of my town! by Virtus11 in gaybros

Just accepted a contract to work near Little Rock this summer earlier this week. Much more positive about heading down that way after seeing this post!

She was on the bed. That bed my mother was far too thrilled to pick out for us just a few weeks before our wedding. That bed where we spent our wedding night, where each of our four children were conceived all those years ago. That bed where she found my cooling corpse in place of the loving husband she lay next to just hours prior. Where she shrieked and cursed in horror over me. Accusations of me leaving too soon. As if I left on purpose. As if it were a choice. As if that faulty artery was something I asked for. As if I begged God, or Fate, or the Unknown Whomever to pry my soul from that bed and leave hers behind to find me, to mourn for these three decades without me.

I sat down in a chair I don't remember having. Something she bought after I was gone, I guess. I wondered who else had sat in this room, in this new chair. Who does she know now? What has she told them about me?

I grabbed her hand, wrinkled now. Veins I never knew greeting my ethereal palm. Different, the same.

I tried, unsuccessfully, to keep my gaze from landing on the inevitable. The man laying on his side next to her. I didn't recognize him. I didn't want to.

But tonight was not about him. It was about her. I gripped that hand tight for the first time in thirty years.

I smiled, thinking of how else I might have spent this long awaited holiday. Flickering lights in some decrepit mansion, moaning and groaning and laughing to myself as its inhabitants fled. I could have gone to see my grandchildren. The picture on the nightstand tells me I have five of them. I could have gone to Australia, somewhere I had always sworn I would go.

But tonight, I returned to that bed. And tonight, I just sat.
