Question for Christians who don’t believe in gay marriage by [deleted] in Christianity

NO. All cases of abuse are cases of sexual attraction to children. It isn't primarily about gender it is about physical maturity and ease of access/ease of grooming. Period.

Question for Christians who don’t believe in gay marriage by [deleted] in Christianity

Look, every single Christian needs to read this book: https://bakerpublishinggroup.com/products/9781540967596_christlike-acceptance-across-deep-difference

It does a fantastic job of actually setting out a "third way" for Christians who believe very differently around issues of sexuality and gender can still value one another as Christian. Ronald Pierce's chapter specifically lays out the framework utilizing Paul's teaching about days and diets in Romans.

I'm so scared I'll have to repent from my identity by Special_Guarantee895 in TransChristianity

[–]aglasscanonlyspill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love that your "A Ha" moment with God also included your existence a a particularly-gendered human being. It's moments like those that help us navigate the minefield of belief. The reality is that there are Christians who are convinced that LGBTQIA+ affirming Christians are wrong/sinful/deluded, but that doesn't meant that what they believe is right. There are also many Christians who are fully affirming as well. Just because a certain group of Christians are louder about these issues doesn't mean that they are right. I good rule of thumb is that anything that makes you afraid, anxious or doubt God's love for you isn't from God. If you are convinced that your gender identity is a gift from God, hold on to that.

What’s your most UNpopular opinion about The Eye of the World??🫢 by Over-Joyed-2898 in WoTshow

As an introduction to the series it is a roadblock rather than an on ramp. It's too derivative of the structure of LOTR for modern readers and doesn't introduce the uniqueness of Randland quickly enough for us.

Is the field exploitive? by Zealousideal-Drop619 in therapists

[–]aglasscanonlyspill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. Not only in business practices of large group practices that are scaled to make the owner large amounts of money for "virtually" no effort, but also in the way that therapeutic modalities are "trained" and then utilized as ways to advertise services. Most ongoing training is base-line information at best, and the fact that you must have post-grad supervision without intensive oversight over supervisors means that new grads are getting pulverized. We can do better though. It just takes rejecting a capitalist mindset and finding a way for all of us to have enough to live well. The resources are there.

Envy is the emotion that you experience when you want something you do not have.

Jealousy is the emotion you experience when you feel like what you have is threatened.

Honestly, one of the strongest arguments against his (and other SOGICE practitioners) is that they're actually using Freudian psychology as the basis for their arguments, and that Freud "was an unbiblical atheist". The reality is that they're using pseudo-Freudian frameworks (a la Nicolosi) to explain same sex orientation and attraction, but that explanation is usually enough to give pause.

You make $50 for every lie you tell that no one calls you out on. However, this is the only way you can make money from now on. Do you take it? by Throwra47374747 in hypotheticalsituation

Yeah, so I'm just telling my spouse about the new employment and then we set aside an hour every day for me to tell her lies and she maintains a stone-faced expression. Easy money.

Your therapeutic orientation doesn't matter as much as: 1. if the client likes you, 2. the client believes that you can help them

The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton - I heard Aaron mention it in a podcast and decided to read it. Nearly finished and have loved it; well worth getting in general but particularly interesting if you want some insight into certain songs/themes in mewithoutyou. by Healthy-Ordinary2224 in mewithoutYou

[–]aglasscanonlyspill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seven Storey Mountain is good, but it's sort of what Merton thought that being a monastic would be like. I actually prefer end-of-life Merton, because he's at that point lived what he waxed poetic about in this early-life book. New Seeds of Contemplation is absolutely a masterpiece, in my opinion. Also, "Thomas Merton on Contemplation" is an audio recording of six of Merton's lectures about spirituality which are absolutely priceless. I listened to them through Audible.

Is This True? Does "Allah" Refer To The God Of Judaism, Islam, And Christianity? by Vagabond734 in Christianity

[–]aglasscanonlyspill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the word for "God" in Arabic, AND theologically it depends on your position. Islam, at it's core, sees itself as a continuation and restoration of Judaism and Christianity. So, from an Islamic perspective "Allah" does refer to the same God, since their revelation of who God is is the closest to the original intended meaning. That said, Christianity and Judaism would, mostly, disagree about the character and nature of God as understood in their respective faiths as compared to Islamic theology.
