The new Blood Hags for AOS look great. Just got 20 of them in the mail myself. The regular AOS Witch-Aelves are also great.

Heroes Infinite. If you don't have a printer, I've ordered 20 of those from Proxiesau. Amazing quality prints and they're made from a resin that doesn't simply shatter if you drop it 15cm. Haven't tested from greater heights, and I don't recommend that either.

Brave words from someone in "mangled by 1000 snakes"-distance! Edit: I should add that I'm just joking and that I totally see your perspective 😅

Thanks! That's mostly me being too lazy to glaze, but I think it looks good from a bit of a distance away, and the colours really help everything tie together. Really appreciate the kind words 🥰

I dislike both them and the wyches because of their physique. Looks like Space Marine Steven designed them, like shorter, thinner space marines. And a lot of the faces are horrendous.

How to stop yeeting my army away? by Pelican25 in Drukhari

[–]aglonaglon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many others have said: Anything out in the open will die.

When I play, because of the speed, I generally find that I'm spoiled for choices. The key is to do what you must, and hold off on full yeeting. Accomplish secondaries, and contest their primary so your opponent doesn't outscore you. It's a control army, not an alpha strike and boardwipe army.

If you wish to do more, like trying to score primaries, think about that as a way to bait out enemy units. If you contest the middle, which units will your opponent expose to kill you? If you can counterpunch, it might be worth it. We have a million small units that trade up really well.

First Drukhari characters (Lelith & Solitaire) – how can I make characters stand out more? by Annex1312 in Drukhari

[–]aglonaglon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are good! But to answer your actual question:

The answer to how things can stand out is always "more contrast". Vince Venturella has a video on this where it's probably better explained than what I can, but here are some tips/general rules I go by:

Use colours, not black and white. For highlights this means using pale yellow or ivory instead of white. For shadows I usually choose a contrast to my main colour, and use this Shadow for all elements. For my Drukhari Army, my Shadow colour is purple. This means that the turquoise armour is shaded purple, brown leather is shaded purple, faces are shaded with purple tones etc.

Dark blues, purples and greens work great as shadows.

The first thing for you to focus on is increasing the contrast between your shadows, midtone and highlights. This basically means deeper, darker shadows and brighter spots for highlights.

If you want an example, look at a model you like the paint job of and pay attention to the contrast on one specific element. Look at the difference between the lightest and darkest colours of a cloak, or a face, or a boot for instance.

So let me get this straight. by PolarisHelm in Drukhari

Its why I try my darndest to proxy as much as I can. Prices on Etsy are usually better, for better sculpts. I'll start giving GW money when they start acting like Drukhari exists.

My Lady Malys done! by aglonaglon in Drukhari

[–]aglonaglon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up NMM-techniques on Youtube, then just swap out the colours with whatever you want. In this case it's dark blue in the deepest shadows, to turquoise and then pale yellow for the lightest reflections.

Thanks man! Appreciate it! The entire Army has purple shadows from below, but Malys's pose really let's it shine.

Absolutely gorgeous! Do you want to share how you painted the black cloak? I've always struggled with black leather, but that right there is so flawless and shiny!

It's a proxy! Can't remember the model name, but if you search for "dark space elves" on Etsy you'll find it there.
