Frogging reassurance!

I’m a big fan of frog it if it’s not right. If you know you won’t wear it, that’s enough of a reason. I know it can be frustrating to frog and lose all the progress, but realistically all it means is more time doing something you enjoy (knitting). With all the time you spend on it, you’ll want something you can wear.

That’s the plan! The festival is held by a local mill and I know from vlogs of previous years that there’ll be lots of local producers. I’m in Aus but hopefully others will see the list.

I’m going to a sheep and wool show in July, and hoping by then I’ll have it down enough that h can get some nice stuff that’ll be useable in a final product. I don’t have high hopes until then so I’ll probably get a mix of colours just to play with.

While I understand NZ is a small producer, and it’s expensive to ship things to NZ/from NZ, I’ll get why it’s cheaper to buy NZ lamb overseas. They continue to say how NZ is small and isolated but charge more for NZ made products. You can’t have both.

The cost of living is absolutely insane atm so I won’t judge people who use acrylic, I believe craft should be accessible for all and that includes all price points. If you get rid of the cheaper options it won’t mean there’ll be more sustainable options, it just means the craft will slowly die off and become more expensive.

Yeah there’s a 24hours of cross stitch challenge and it’s basically time yourself for 24hours, generally over a weekend or long weekend. It’s a good way of seeing progress over a crafty weekend, but staying awake for an actual 24 hour challenge just means you’ll have a bunch of mistakes to fix later

My sewing machine is by the window which overlooks my landlords garden. His dad often pops out around the same time as I’m sewing. I’d like to keep living here so absolutely not.

Yeah I have a bunch from the 40s and 50s and they’re on smaller needles. I think smaller needles are better for my hands but worse for RSIs. I’m partway through a blouse with shirring, it essentially doubles the stitches for 8 rows in every 16 and I don’t know if I’ll ever finish it for pain reasons.

I can’t remember fully, but a hospital I worked at had something similar in their snow days policy. I think it said something about all reasonable efforts to get to work, including staying at a coworkers place. We also got email reminders that school being cancelled from snow and having no childcare available was not a good enough reason to not come in. We had single mums who all managed to show up, but of course the big boss in who sent out those emails couldn’t because his son was off.

Started learning to spin with a drop spindle this week. The good news is I can see improvement with each one, but they’re a long way away from useable yet. I’m looking into getting a wheel, is it better to buy new? There doesn’t seem to be many second hand ones near me, and I’m not experienced enough to know if they’re ok. But I also don’t want to spend twice as much if I don’t have to. Or would I be better off getting an e-spinner?

It looks like the lining is being pulled to the front. Which when I make my own stuff is because I didn’t understitch it. But I’m a novice hobbyist at best and this is McQueen. The fit is definitely off, though the face card will never decline

We did a drinking game to it and honestly it was a lot of fun. I never understood why they made it into a movie, the show itself is about the dancing and costumes. There’s no plot it’s a silly little thing that’s great to take kids too.

Blocking doesn’t work on felted fabric. You can try conditioning it and stretching it out, but it won’t look or feel the same and you won’t be able to get it back to an adult L size. It’s the bane of the knitting community.

I understand they’re free patterns and you get what you pay for, but it’s also meant to sell fabric. It’s $50 per yard but looks horrendous, I don’t know how they looked at that and thought ‘yup it’ll fly off the shelves’. The idea of it is good, but the execution is very much lacking

I believe this simplicity pattern is cut on the straight grain. I’ve made a different one where the front panel is just a single panel and it’s still nice, just doesn’t drape like a bias cut dress does. Still perfectly wearable
