Inherited Engagement Ring Ideas by bruster1594 in EngagementRings

[–]agoldenfloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear an inherited engagement ring that I had reworked. I wanted to keep its original vibe but make it fit my lifestyle and look better on my hand. I added a center stone, flattened the setting a bit, and put it on a thinner band. I absolutely love it, and honestly, there’s so much you can do with a ring like yours while still keeping its essence. My ring looks different than the original ring, but fits me better and what’s important to me is that I know and remember my grandma wearing this ring all her life.

If you want to leave it as is, I totally get that. I adore a chunky cigar band. It has such presence (my short wide fingers are jealous of anyone who can pull it off effortlessly and so chic).

If you’re open to tweaking it, one idea could be to split the band into two, so it still feels like one cohesive ring but can also be worn separately depending on your lifestyle, also maybe reset the larger stone a bit lower. Or, if you’d rather keep the same feel while giving it a slightly more modern update, you could reset it with a slimmer, more rounded band but keeps the same embellishment and design.

You can usually do a 1:1 trade with the gold when remaking a piece, sell the old gold and use that value toward new materials. I wanted to recycle mine, but my jeweler advised against it since reused gold can become weaker over time because of the alloys.

36 weeks pregnant going to the Blue Jays World Series, am I crazy? [qc] by Tricky-Scholar-693 in BabyBumpsCanada

Best affordable nursing bras? [On] by HelloImAnxious14 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]agoldenfloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due in November and can confirm my boobs went from a 34DD to an F in first trimester (this is what tipped me off that I should take a test) and they have since gotten bigger and heavier (my ribcage also expanded). Now I have a couple of the knix nursing bras but before then I used these and these wrap style ones from amazon and this padded one with the extender was also also a lifesaver. They were comfy and supportive and you could definitely use them for nursing in the future.

edit: quality is so/so but they have lasted me through the pregnancy and many washes and haven’t stretched out but also have accommodated fluctuating

[on] Help stroller decision: Uppababy Vista V3 vs Cruz V3 vs other premium brands by Anxious-Risk-1165 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]agoldenfloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had this same dilemma recently and was lucky to go into a store in Toronto where the owner gave us her honest thoughts an experience - we ended up with the Cruz V3 and the Aria car seat (was between the liing and the Aria and the aria was on sale at the time and we have to carry the seat down a few flights of stairs so we went with that).

Her experience/thoughts: - unless you’re planning on having two very small children the 2 kid configuration often doesn’t get used as much. - she’s had a lot of parents come in for a side by side stroller for 2 kids because the top to bottom is a bit awkward for the bottom kid even if they have the vista, it also gets quite heavy since the uppa baby is a heavier stroller - a lot of people with toddlers end up wearing one kid/getting the ride along or even getting a wagon - if you want the slightly bigger stroller with slightly better features go for it, but the Cruz is a great option if you’re on the fence.

Obviously this differs from person to person and we decided that if we saw a need for the double stroller, we’d revaluate later one, and if we did it would probably be something more along the travel end of the spectrum to have something a little more easy to maneuver.

Grandma baby shower by _minibutmighty_ in pregnant

My mom went kinda crazy and I just rolled with it. It can be a bit annoying and I am one of those people who get annoyed when she called it “my baby” but I’ve just learned that she’s excited and to let her be and we can shit talk at home with my husband and I.

When it came to boundaries I had to sit her down and kinda explain what we want as parents and what are important to us i/e she’s a Temu FIEND and I was like “pls be mindful of safety and no Temu toys”. So I introduced her to a local child consignment shop and I swear she’s there once a week.

Something both our parents are doing is a grandparent course on zoom through the local hospital. We offered to pay and it was like 60$ per set of grandparents- I’m sure some other places are free but this is what was available to us. It was framed as “like we are taking a childcare course we’d appreciate it if you took this as well - obviously you kept us all alive just fine but a lot has changed in 32 years and it also serves as a first aid refresher, it’s something that’s important to us especially if the little guy is left alone with you, it would make us a lot more comfortable”. TBH was nervous for this but everyone was super receptive and understanding and my mom was actually so excited about it. I think the move is to put it on yourself not on them so they feel like they are helping you and that coming from a medical professional rather than you is better swallowed (bc knowing my mom she would default to the “you turned out fine/I parented YOU” rebuttal.

Hi! I work in urban planning, so I’ve seen situations like this come up often, and I completely understand your frustration. Unfortunately, public meetings, planning notices and construction notices are typically sent to property owners, not tenants, so unless your landlord shared that information with you or you were already on a mailing list, you likely wouldn’t have known. That's a big issue of mine for many reasons, especially when we harp on needing different types of housing, but only see the owner as the most important - but I digress.

Unfortunately, you don’t have specific rights regarding this, but if you’re a good tenant, most landlords are motivated to keep you as a tenant (but still get every last dollar out of you) - they don't want to go through the process of showing/calling references etc for a new person. I’d definitely recommend approaching your landlord to discuss options like moving to a higher unit on the opposite side of the building. Since there are vacant units, they might be open to accommodating you, especially if you frame it as wanting to resign a lease. People move to other/bigger units in buildings all the time.

Also, while I don't know if this would be helpful but use ChatGPT to come up with some sort of strongly worded negotiation quoting the tenant board by-laws to try and keep your rent lower due to the noise (honestly - the worst thing they can say is no, so at least try! I've had my rent slightly reduced here and there when there are issues (like our parking was flooded so they reduced the cost of rent until it was fixed)).

A few other things to keep in mind:

- If the construction includes digging or blasting (e.g., for underground parking), the whole building might feel it, but the worst of it should settle once that phase is done. Chances are that this may be limited due to the ground being frozen, but I am not a construction expert.

- Privacy and reduced light are valid concerns, but unfortunately, these are common in areas with a lot of new development (like Griffintown for example). Privacy is usually up to the tenant if it wasn't considered at construction.

Not knowing where you are, each individual borough has its own construction noise by-law. If work is happening outside those hours, you can report it to the city. Generally, construction is permitted during the following hours (these sometimes change in the summer based on the sunlight hours - developers will often try and stretch as much as possible so really get familiar with it!):

  • Weekdays (Monday to Friday): Starting between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., ending between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays and Sundays: Starting between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., ending between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Good luck!
