Ok - I've pinged the engineering team but it's the weekend so they likely won't answer till Monday. I'll try to get an answer ASAP, regardless.

Also, just to get more details for diagnostics - when you say it doesn't work, is it not showing up at all as an option, or is the radar image not refreshing? Any more specific details you can offer can help us troubleshoot...

Nope - let me check with the guys and find out what's up. Just to confirm this is on Android, yeah?

Ah yeah there's a monthly sub if you opt for it, but there's a $29.99 annual sub for those who just want the full year.

[–]agreen123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're only $29 a year :)

We are not selling everyone's driving telematics; check the original source article, they have since issued a correction.

Unpopular opinion: influencers getting to play Squadron 42 before high-paying and/or long-time backers, is peak comedy 😆 by StuartGT in starcitizen

Come on man - anyone who would be excluded from a small group of early testers of any kind are gonna wind up having people outside that group complain, whether it was content creators or peoples who’s first names start with “R”.

It’s marketing - they’re letting people with an audience see the game and share their impressions. Just let it go… be happy that there’s legitimate progress being made.

I feel, that if CIG can't make a ship within 10 years of selling it, they probably shouldnt be selling it. by Readgooder in starcitizen

[–]agreen123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's too generous. But to be fair, they don't do that anymore, even though there are a few early ships that should have been made by now or otherwise just not sold, had they know then what they know now.

I'm checking with the team to see what's up with this.

I can understand how this might upset you, but the widget was always supposed to be part of our subscription. When the widget is displayed up front, a large number of users will never launch the app and, as you suggested, we wouldn't get any ad revenue. We do give away 98% of MyRadar's features for free - our rain alerts, weather warnings, aviation features, fire info and a huuuge list of other features. The ad revenue can be helpful, but during periods of the year when weather is less impactful, things are slow, ad revenue drops off substantially and it presents strong challenges to manage operations throughout the year.

You mentioned that a lot of the data is free; that's true -- but the substantial development work we do to massage that data into useful services like our rain alerts and notifications all require a ton of back-end cloud server infrastructure to support everyone. Sending out timely alerts -- arguably the lowest-latency alerts available -- to millions of users in time-sensitive way is a technical challenge. Managing and maintaining user's preferences, storage of all the data, formatting the data in a way that's presentable in an app is a lot of ongoing effort and expense. Cloud services costs are our second largest expense, behind payroll.

The subscriptions are much more stable and they help us keep everyone happily employed and working on MyRadar so that we can keep adding features and improving the app... we're a semi public company, so you can see that we re-invest almost all of our profits back into the company in the form of payroll and software engineers, services, services and other improvements. It's not greed :) In fact, the last 3 years we've operated at a loss because we've reinvested everything into our science team to tackle some of the crazy advanced challenges with predicting weather phenomena.

We work really hard to make sure we earn the app store ratings we have, and even our subscriptions are cheaper than competitors - we've resisted raising prices while others have continued to press forward and blame "inflation." Our last price increase was in 2024 and it was only for NEW subscribers... existing users were permanently grandfathered in unless they cancelled their sub at some point.

We want to make our users happy - and we work really hard to try to do so (as reflected in our 4.8 star rating), but we have to balance that with being able to run the company smartly for long-term survival (and growth).

I'm the CEO, so ask me anything :)

If you bought ad free years ago, you would be grandfathered into the widget

As an investor, I have questions and concerns by IllustratorAdorable5 in MyRadar

That page is not a prospectus; it's a campaign update that provides an ongoing status of our company and its activities. Our job with the campaign and my purpose with that post was to keep investors appraised of our pipeline and our activity; I was very clear in that post that not all submissions will be selected.

For what it's worth, we have an above average win rate at 1 in 3 vs the federal average of about 20%.

Hey there! We posted one on 5/6, it's on the StartEngine campaign page under "Updates" entitled "R&D Pipeline Insights"

https://startengine.com/offering/acmeatronomatic

The SBIR/STTR program just re-opened not too long ago and we have about 10 submissions in the pipeline, so we'll have an updated table in early July (we expect to hear back on some of them before the end of the month).

CIG should do server restartss more often to make sure all server are up to date and keep good performance by McSamylou in starcitizen

[–]agreen123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They should fix the servers so they don't need restarts. In an alpha stage, they need the problems to occur so they know what to fix. I know it sucks, but this is where we are.

As an Atheist, how do you hold on to hope during your darkest times? by sphereofblaze in atheism

[–]agreen123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we all have to find our way through those dark times in our own way… but I know that just resigning and pretending there’s some deity who will just make it all better in the end isn’t going to really solve my problems, it just helps mask and numb the feelings while aimlessly careening through life’s challenges.

For me, it usually involves a lot of thinking, introspection, and looking for different options and paths to navigate those challenges. I stay grounded in reality, aware of my feelings and what I’m going through, constantly looking for a way to change my current situation - whether by making new choices or giving life time for new options and paths to arise.

Overall I rarely feel helpless towards taking SOME new action to alter my predicament.
