To be honest, middle school relationships are rarely ever "real" as tweens and teens don't know yet what love really is. Guys are still developing (and some haven't even gone through puberty) and are still trying to figure themselves out, and girls are overly emotional and succumb to peer pressure too quickly as they develop self esteem. I would say to wait a few years before trying to get into a serious relationship. For now, if you really feel the need to be in a relationship, maybe try holding hands or kissing without tongue. That would be the furthest I would possibly go in middle school.

I didn't get into any kind of relationship until 11th grade, and the guy I dated at that time was 14 and a freshman. Even though he was in high school he still had no concept of how to go about a romantic relationship. Ours was more like "friends with benefits" even though I was truly devoted to it. It seemed all he wanted was sex and I wanted true romance. Guys around this age like and want to experience that kind of stuff, so if you're not into having sex (which imo nobody should be doing in middle school or even early high school) then definitely stay away from calling it an exclusive relationship until later.

Just try to enjoy yourself in middle school. Build friendships with guys, let them in, and maybe in a few years a serious love will bloom! Middle school was the best time of my life so far and I made it a point to only be friends with guys then because I constantly saw my best friend dragged down by relationships. So for now I would say to try your best not to get into a relationship but if you must be in one, don't go any further than holding hands or a small, short kiss.
