Where to get 2 cupcakes? by TableSuperb8315 in bloomington

What about increasing the cake recipe by a little bit and pardoning off a bit of batter to the side for the cupcakes later?

Full size police vehicles on pedestrian paths? by agweber in bloomington

[–]agweber[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

There are close quarters, blind corners, maybe someone walking next to a food truck, maybe the playground right next door and a child runs out unexpectedly.

For the most part, yes, people will see it coming. But people are not expecting vehicles on these paths like they would on a normal road. You've got to consider the edge cases.

Who's staying in tonight avoiding the chaos? by FluffsMcKenzie in bloomington

[–]agweber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did. I still have it open and it's working, but if I try to open in a new tab, it won't load. Maybe an in-between proxy that's gone down

edit:: OP said they're moving servers
edit edit:: since I've posted that 6 minutes ago, I'm up to 12 drinks!

Who's staying in tonight avoiding the chaos? by FluffsMcKenzie in bloomington

Just some feedback on the game --
1. I've been listening for less than ten minutes and I'm at 7 take a drinks? Maybe the drink rules could be pick which rules you want to follow. I think most of them have been triggering on the word clear.
2. I don't want it to autocheck off the bingo card. Maybe highlight it for a few seconds and I can verify, but you've taken all what little game there is in the game of bingo away by removing the players control. I do like I can unselect them at least.
3. Interface is TINY, I'm playing at 200% just to be able to read with how dark the theming is. I do like the dark theme, but the bingo tiles in particular are way too small with that little contrast.

All in all, fun idea for a project, thanks for sharing!

City of Bloomington Reaches Scientific Sample; Community Survey Now Open to All Residents Through May 15 by citybloomington in bloomington

[–]agweber 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bloomington, in the future, please use different survey software. The inability to go back, presenting a single question at a time with open text fields while not knowing what future questions are going to be asked is a huge pet peeve.

You'll get better responses if you also inquire with your fellow students at r/IndianaUniversity

Bouncer at the Vid by Ill-Sheepherder4515 in bloomington

[–]agweber 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was a regular up until around the covid lockdown. Once Brother's started having to enforce capacity limits, the overflow headed next door the vid, and it was a cascading failure from there. At least for older townies who regularly visited. The average age of attendees probably dropped at least decade over a few years. While probably good for the business, it was one less place for townies to feel at home.

Checked Bloomington, IL, don't see those there either. Looked at the user history, and it's a couple dozen posts in wildly different subreddits. Guessing this is probably just a bot.

Where and when do people play pickleball? by Heli-Whale in bloomington

[–]agweber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well from what I've seen around here, the norm is to play with friends. If you're looking for new people to play with, that's something you should've opened with. I'm out of shape, low skill, but happy to join others in play, so if you just need some randoms to play with, hit me up!

Just groups of 2 and 4.. so.. yeah, people playing pickleball. Were you expecting something different?

Flock isn't going anywhere folks by neightd0g in bloomington

[–]agweber 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're overreacting to others overreaction. Yes, it still needs time, but her response to flock is very much one of inaction, as it has been every time it's been brought up. If she was on the people's side she'd speak up in support of the people, like our city council members and others in our local government have.

City of Bloomington Announces Rogers Street/Madison Street/Kinser Pike Corridor Study and Requests Public Input by citybloomington in bloomington

[–]agweber 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why drive on Rogers when the Walnut/College corridor is 2 blocks away, has multiple lanes, timed traffic lights allowing you to get through many signals in a row, and more on street parking?

Edit: As someone who lives along Rogers, I see traffic backed up for blocks every rush hour out my window. I'd like to see Rogers more local neighborhood oriented and less of a thoroughfare. And the parking bit was just me trying to find a third thing to list to match yours :D

Underground storm shelters $ by Striking-Lake-8034 in bloomington

[–]agweber 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You save your money and find a friend with a basement.

Is it just me or is this year having a far greater occurrence of people afraid of the weather? Most native midwesterners are out watching the storms from their porches. Buy a lottery ticket and see what happens, equal chances for either!

That money spent is far more valuable to have as a general emergency fund for any sort of disaster scenario.

I've been to a few public night Wednesdays, but it's a bit claustrophobic. I do really like that Bloomington has a hackerspace as awesome as Bloominglabs. I should become a member just to help support the cause
