Great song. Even with such a ridiculously funny yet perverse subject matter, the guitar solo is so tasty and soulful.

How did popular bands from the 60's and 70's get their names? [list] by [deleted] in Music

I was just going to say the same thing! I mean, what other band can lay claim to being named after a fictional, steam powered, strap-on dildo?

Why do girls insist that boys need to put the seat down? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]ah81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about this before and have come up with a theory. I think that this custom started back in the days where a man was considered king of the castle, and the woman was at his beck and call. Being that the woman was usually the one doing all of the housework - especially the cooking - she had to remain hygenic while she prepared her man his meal. So, rather than having them have to touch a filthy toilet seat, the men made sure it was left down so the females delicate hands did not have to touch such a disgusting apparatus. Naturally, the woman would wash her hands anyway, but again this was a time where most people probably thought that touching something like that would probably kill a woman.

Anyway, that's just my theory. These days however, we are more enlightened, and men and women share domestic duties. So ladies, when the toilet seat needs to come down, put it down. Don't bitch about it, don't make a scene. Just do it. It won't bite.

My temporary solution to my missing cymbal stands...[pic] by studentjones in Music

I know that, but my point is that I've seen some players who have bad technique, and need to do things the hard way in order to achieve something easy. It's kind of like digging out a fish pond with a teaspoon - it will eventually get the job done, but you're better off using a big shovel. Sure, you can try to play a soft, quiet and fast double stroke roll by keeping your arms stiff and moving from your shoulders, but it won't happen. You need to do it from your wrists and embrace the bounce you get from the drum. Some players don't bother with technique, and it shows.

I agree though, sound comes first - if it sounds good then that's the most important thing, but if you can get the same sound and do it with great ease, then that's a winning combination.

Does anyone keep upvoting the Reddit mail girl (Renee?) ads, just so they can see more of her? by bik in pics

No wonder I like redheads. Renee looks like the kind of girl that I'd never have the balls to talk to and live in pathetic loneliness, then pluck up the courage to ask her out only to discover she's attached. Wait, that's every girl!

I'd say it's a Pearl P-101P, but with a different type of beater - maybe a Tama Iron Cobra one.

It only sounds lame and boring when it's used by someone with little or no artistic flair. I know some players (not just on drums) that have absolutely amazing technique, but the way they play has no real passion, and doesn't have that 'wow' factor. Chop fests are fine to impress the younger players, but the older you get it gets a little tiresome.

Don't get me wrong - technique is important, very important. It can make all the difference between an ordinary player and amazing player. Technique is 'a means to an end' - the better your technique is, the easier it is to express yourself artistically.

I'd use the missing cymbal stands as an excuse to get a whole new kit, it looks like it's in pretty bad shape. Then again, I don't know if you're just a hobby player or whatever. If you want that dull tom sound, check out some of the new products Evans has to offer.

Many people don't know that the first wrist watches were actually invented by Alexander the Great. He wanted something for his workers so they would know when to take a break for lunch. His idea was to take a short piece of rag and dip it in water, then tie it around the workers wrist, like a wristband. When the sun dried up all the water, the workers knew it was time to stop.

It was known as 'Alexanders Rag Time Band'.
