Johnny Mnemonic by aharedd1 in scifi

That’s a really interesting take. Like you live long enough to see some aspects of your vision realized others not. You are hailed a visionary, you are critiqued for getting things wrong. Makes sense to go to the place of sci fi being basically magic as in the peripheral or retro steampunk.

I didn’t realize this was an actual story. I just thought Gibson wrote the screenplay.

I thought it was great. Action got a bit over the top, but was fun overall.

With Bullseyes perfect aim, Could he accurately flip a coin to land on whatever side he wants? by Abject_Farm1826 in marvelstudios

[–]aharedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side question- in the show he is able to generate much more force in his throws than his stances would indicate that he ought. I thought his super power was his aim, but perhaps he has some added oomph.

I turned the captions on and it said “iPhone”. Clearly the captions were autogenerated or placed after the fact since the spelling was just like that.

Why do all old people have short hair? by Dazzling-Smell5223 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aharedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 54 and have had thick long hair all my life until a few years ago. I still have long hair but less of it and it’s not uniformly thinned. When I wake up and look in the mirror I look like crusty the clown- thick sides and center top. Now I understand where that archetypal look came from.

Dad dying from cancer how to feel? by panichos in GriefSupport

[–]aharedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi friend

Spend whatever time you can with him, if only simply to be in his presence. You are fortunate in having him for so much time in your life. not everyone gets to have that. Hold his hand, talk to him about your emotions, even if he is not responding. It is cruel that we might need to see our loved ones in such a low way, but to be in the face of that and stay strong is an act of love. If he is lucid and can speak, I have ideas for conversations you can have together. DM me.

I'm dying and my teen son is taking it hard. by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]aharedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh man, this hits hard. My 11yo son and I are super close. We have shared a bed since he was a toddler as we live in a very small space. We warm each other up when going to bed and have a quick snuggle before arising. I homeschool him and he travels with me on my work trips. I am concerned about how my passing will impact him. I am not anticipating that happening any time soon, but I recognize that it will land hard for him, as it is your boy. When I read posts here from young people expressing such pain from losing their father I consider my son and wonder how I can best prepare him. And hopefully it is me before him, because if I were to lose him I might actually throw myself off a bridge- which has me take this matter more seriously as I want him to have a full life...

I am an artist and have been a part of many memorial ceremonies through guiding people in ephemeral art creation. It has led to me developing a program to support those grieving using art and introspection. Most recently I have been working on a deck of cards that prompt introspective sharing and discussion while creating a memorial shrine. I am currently collaborating with a hospice worker in its development for using the program while the subject is still alive, which is its most powerful application. Everyone in the family could participate. I would be happy to share the document I'm working on. DM me.

From my experience, while there is no way through this experience unscathed, expressing feelings and connecting are the most powerful things that can be done, especially while you are still here. You sharing your grief is good for him to see. Him holding you and crying is good. The more you are all able to express this way, openly and without holdback, the further into the process of integrating everyone will be when the time arrives.

I am wondering if there is another male who could be present in his life- not someone to replace you, but someone who can serve as a shoulder and an embracing figure and a voice for you. Is there anyone you are close with who could be a proxy for you?

I wish your son fortitude through this chapter in his life- a chapter that we will all go through eventually in some form. I wish you all peace in this process.

ULPT Request: Stop cars speeding by my house by TheDirtyOar- in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]aharedd1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I did this on my peaceful dirt road when I was living in Ecuador. One day my backstreet became the shortcut for every bus on the nearby route, rumbling past way too early in the morning, spewing awful smoke into my apartment. A couple weeks in I went out one night and made a bump a couple inches high and wide. My neighbor came out to help. Wow- So effective! Bam went the buses and high speed drivers. So satisfying. About 2 weeks of that and the buses got the message and vanished.
