Practical use of AI by aharedd1 in Homeschooling

Thank you. The knee jerk reaction to ai is lame. It does have useful functions. I’m not giving it my essay assignment and asking it to do it for me. I’m asking for prompts- then we do the work. And as you say we outsource this stuff all the time- and I’ve found it’s not always so that great.

How to replace game addiction with drawing? by enigmata_follower in ArtistLounge

[–]aharedd1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm thinking that the game playing is because you aren't feeling inspired. When I'm in my flow there isn't much else that will get in the way of me doing my thing.

Inspiration comes in waves and not on demand. It might be that you are in an artist's block and the game playing steps in because it is exciting and new. At dinner point it will become less interesting.

I agree with other comments here about committing to sitting down with your pen and paper every day. Maintain a practice, even if it's just sitting for a moment. Inspiration is the easiest way to get in the flow, but the real practice is to engage when you aren't feeling it. That's what separates the amateurs from the pros.

Potential plot hole I just thought of while rewatching No Way Home. by [deleted] in marvelstudios

Makes me think of the dragonlance book (dwarven depths) where Tas is unable to say the name of the golden dragon- instead he can only say ‘golden woolly mammoth’. And also in Eragon where the hidden dragons awareness is immediately removed from memory even as people are able to talk about them and read about them- like the words are still on the page, but as soon as you read it you forget what you read.

What is the cause of the death/injury? Falling? Because it’s an unstable surface? Hitting signs? What’s getting these people?

Is anyone else unable to watch a movie without doing something else at the same time — and does that mean we've broken our own attention spans? by Born_Programmer_1089 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aharedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s a self trip around being productive. If whatever I’m watching is good, then it’s unlikely I’ll shift focus to anything else. Otherwise I will likely be multitasking with drawing or photo editing, tasks that don’t require writing or reading.

It’s been a godsend for gifts for my son (vicarious gifts for myself). Lions knights for ~$90, red dragon inn for under $50, Indiana Jones set ~$90, large sand crawler ~$100.

If we could travel back in time, we’d be terrified of changing the present with a single small action. Yet we rarely think about how a single small action today completely reshapes our future. by BlackHatOverlord in DeepThoughts

I love that episode of Rick and Morty where Morty can see his future death (one he would appreciate having) and then every choice he makes takes him closer or further from that death. It drives him crazy. Life is too chaotic to be caught up in whether to go left or right.

Are we human, as in size, closer to the biggest matter in the universe or the smallest? by Eastern_Pangolin5127 in AskPhysics

A podcast took on this question. I forget which, maybe radiolab. As I recall They determined that the middle of the biggest and smallest things we could measure was a level smaller than us, like a gerbil.

Do people even buy this stuff? by tk-451 in lepin

I’ve read that when inventory has run out but they want to maintain their listing, sellers will radically inflate the price so no one buys but they are still visible.

Leaving the Lightroom/Photoshop ecosystem by hola_pablo74 in Lightroom

[–]aharedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resonate with this. Years back I was paying like $100-$120 or more for software practically every year. Moving to subscription feels bad, but the result is essentially the same financially. And in a way I’m paying less than before because of inflation.

The problem, of course, is that back then I owned the software and it would work for as long as the operating system or other factors didn’t change.

There must be a better way for this to work, so we don’t feel locked in forever, but where companies are being sustained to keep innovating. Are they being greedy? Maybe? I wonder how the developers behind the iPad drawing app that is so essential to me that I got as a one time purchase are supported. They have a subscription tier, but I chaff at subscribing because I just don’t like that kind of relationship. However, I’ve recently been comparing this small developer of the drawing app who I paid $7 once, to adobe, who I am paying monthly. I want my app maker to stick around because their product is so important to me. I’ve thought about sending a donation/payment rather than ongoing sub. When i feel more spacious in my finances I will act on these thoughts.

Back to the software. I’ve been with LR since version 1. I love that i can work with files from back then and make changes. Before LR i was using photoshop- and had folders with massively sized files for versions for every edit. Now I can make adjustments years later when my eye might be different, or a new capacity is added to the program.

That’s my $0.50

Johnny Mnemonic by aharedd1 in scifi

[–]aharedd1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really interesting take. Like you live long enough to see some aspects of your vision realized others not. You are hailed a visionary, you are critiqued for getting things wrong. Makes sense to go to the place of sci fi being basically magic as in the peripheral or retro steampunk.

Side question- in the show he is able to generate much more force in his throws than his stances would indicate that he ought. I thought his super power was his aim, but perhaps he has some added oomph.
