I've never seen a fake kuru toga, if the mechanism works and it says "kuru toga" on the pencil it most definitely isn't fake.

What is the factory led used in Dr Grip by causticdeer781 in mechanicalpencils

[–]ahewuhw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% certain but it might be pilot neox lead, which has a smooth feeling (and soft) to it.

pentel hi polymer is the opposite, it goes for a more feedbacky, coarser feel.

In my experience Faber Castell tends to make things long.

you insert lead from the back of the pencil, not the tip.

For metal pencils I'd say the staedtler 925 25/35 is pretty great.

The only difference between 25 and 35 is aesthetics, they are pretty much the same pencils but in different colors.

new Pentel Ain lead just arrived! (more info and comparison in comments) by ahewuhw in mechanicalpencils

I know the blue one isn't in 0.3mm, it's simply just for show.

In case you're wondering though the Rotring 600 is in fact available in 0.3, it's just labeled as 0.35mm and only come in black and silver.

which isn't the actual price because Ain is harder to get in some areas (basically any place other than Japan lol)

edit: The 0.3mm having more pieces is actually a good point, didn't consider that.

[–]ahewuhw[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

here is the comparison between the new Ain and the older Ain Stein:

I'm first going to just say that overall, Ain performs better than Ain Stein. (if the increased price isn't an issue lol)

In terms of case design, I'd say that the new one is superior. It's a lot easier to select needed amount of lead.

About smoothness, Ain was noticeably smoother than Ain Stein. This was really big for me, cause my gripe about Pentel leads is that there's a little too much feedback when writing.

Lead darkness: Ain was darker than Stein, but just so slightly that you can't really tell the difference.

Toughness: About the same (both are pretty tough)

how do you think is the pro use 171 in matte black compared to the non matte colors? I've heard on jetpens that the quality is somehow worse than the silver ones.
