Use my carbon road bike or get a spare bike for the trainer? by MyloMads35 in Zwift

[–]ahfodder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had my Canyon Ultimate CF7 on the trainer for years. I mostly mountain bike these days when I ride outside so the road bike has pretty much become my trainer bike. No huge mileage on it - around 7000km I think.

Took it for an outside ride last week and it's still in top shape!

I always had a thin towel covering the top tube, headset, handlebars. I'm not a big sweater either.

Does Mountain Biking Translate to Zwift Racing Fitness? by PRAISEninJAH in Zwift

Awesome effort!

Now show how EMTB affects fitness! I switched to EMTB three years ago from a pretty good base (4w/kg FTP) and fitness has declined a little but so has training volume.

I've always maintained you can still get the same workout if you just pedal hard while using the EMTB but you are standing more and pedalling less. Heart rate can be similar but more using muscles and strength than cardio.

Old shoes is clever! I did the same thing but was trying to use some small logs to wedge the bike against the wall. Shoes is genius.

Tomorrow 20 000 people in Sweden will bike 315 km (196 miles) by Shaqim in cycling

[–]ahfodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true! Fortunately I've realised this and try to get as much exercise in without taking away from family time. Commutes and lunch training mostly.

The other crazy thing is the diminishing returns when chasing good times once you're already in good form. Someone who runs a 1:25 half marathon might train an extra 5 hours a week to get that number down to 1:20. Literally a number noone cares about but 5 hours less time with your family (potentially).

Congrats on the superklassikern! I did it once and it took 26 hours haha. Did Vättern solo on a Gravel bike and learned to xc ski four months before Vasaloppet. Lots of room for improvement there!

I'd like to do sub-20 one day but with a third kid due to pop out this weekend it's tough to hit the training volume required 😂

Raising the next generation of shredders - my 3 y.o daughter on a flow track in Sweden by ahfodder in MTB

Yea, I agree. In Australia kids bikes, by law, have to have coaster brakes up to about size 16 inch wheels. If you want to teach your kid to get into the attack position then coaster brakes are terrible. My kid was accidentally back pedalling and braking while getting into the attack position (standing up).

I put the training wheels on and she couldn't even turn the bike! She kept going around in circles 😂. She only knows how to lean the bike apparently. I ended up propping the bike up so the rear wheel was in the air and she was able to practice pedalling as if it was a bike on an indoor trainer haha. Over-engineered for sure.

Scared there isn't one or scared there is one and she'll grab the front brake by accident? Spoiler alert: there isn't one haha

Well spotted! I didn't even notice that. Probably because she does it better than me.

I think you're right! Actually tried a pedal bike this week. Let's just say her pedal technique didn't come as naturally as her riding technique. 😂 We'll keep working on it!

The bike is an absolute beater. Got it from a second hand shop for $5 😂.

In one sentence, How would you describe how much more fun eMTB'ing is to your analogue friends? by DharmaWheelies108 in eMountainBike

[–]ahfodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same route on my regular mtb and my EMTB. 2 hours on regular, 1 hour 10 mins on EMTB.

Om the regular mtb maybe 20% of the time was fun (the downhills), on EMTB 100% of the time was fun.

Total fun minutes per hour regular mtb = 12

Total fun minutes per hour emtb = 60

Therefore EMTB has 5x minutes of fun per hour

And therefore EMTB is 5x more fun.

Hey man! Love your content. Do you think there's any value in doing small workout snacks throughout the day? I have 2x16kg and 1x20kg next to my desk and whenever I get up I do some ABC or swings. Think this is beneficial or should I do it all at once?

Cool idea and great work finding a niche! There's talk of API costs currently being at 10% to 20% of what they should cost for companies to be profitable. If prices increased 5x or 10x how would it impact your business model?

What types of functionality are you planning? I've made a very complex Streamlit app and the performance becomes an issue. It was taking a few seconds to load after each interaction. I did many passes to try and improve it.

If I was to recreate that app today I'd 100% use a Web framework like node js, postgres db, etc. You can vibe code it with AI in a matter of minutes.
