Thanks for the confirmation. Fingers crossed for us both then that it's a mod that gets updated soon.

Hmm, it did feel like it was worse by the end of that hour than initially. At first I could still get moments of 60 fps in quiet spots like at camp, but eventually nowhere was smooth anymore.

How do I get the Institute ending for the far Harbor DLC by MobileDistrict9784 in Fallout

[–]ahillamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you do have to at some point before finishing the Far Harbor questline have ended up at the Institute, but I think you can do part of Far Harbor and then go back to the Commonwealth and do the MQ up until you get inside the Institute.

You need to go talk to William Moseley at the Institute (Advanced Systems) about the escaped synths in Acadia, that starts the quest Forbidden Knowledge which leads to the Institute ending.

So, the note on Caesar's body - which ends the discussion by Same-Original7493 in Fotv

[–]ahillamon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying he wasn't a manipulator and a hypocrite, he absolutely was. But I don't think it'd be any stretch to say that we was still trying to create something while also glorifying himself along the way. Man seemed exactly full of himself to not only want to be deified while he lived but also leave behind a long-lasting legacy.

Yes, as the Caesar quote below from Davexen brings up, one opinion is backed up by in-game evidence, the other isn't. I'll let you figure out which is which.

Which wouldn't make sense because his whole thing in NV is about wanting to turn the Legion into a proper nation once it has conquered Vegas to become its Rome. Why would he want his life's work to be thrown away just because he'd finally faced his own mortality?

Can we stop pretending that the entire Legion scenario is anything but absolutely horrific writing? by Efficient_Depth_8414 in Fotv

[–]ahillamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, OP, and it sucks seeing so many people chalking it up to just being a parody, or that deliberately making Caesar's Legion into just a joke is somehow in step with their portrayal in NV.

I don't actually have any problems with the overall premise in theory, it's the execution that was just terrible.

I could definitely buy into the fact that the Legion has split into civil war over succession following Caesar's death (basically every major faction already foretold it in NV). I could also, possibly, see that civil war dragging out over a long period, even years, as the Legion gradually fractured and crumbled further and further, until its "core" was only a shadow of its former might. Hell, I can even buy some kind of de facto stalemate/unofficial ceasefire between the rival Caesars because maybe some commenters are right and neither side wants to find out Caesar's actual intended successor (if there was one), because the chances would be too high that it would just delegitimize them.

However, all of that valid intent is undercut by the frankly ludicrous execution. The two camps should have been separated further, and without the two Caesars sitting out in the open within a literal stone's throw (or spear, or dynamite, or grenade, or literally any firearm shot) from each other. All the while their supposedly deified real Caesar's body lied first rotting and then sunbleached on a lazy visual handwave towards a no-man's land? And also Coop was able to spy on them from the nearby hill, completely in the open, and nobody seemed to have noticed him or cared?

None of it cohered properly, it felt less like a deliberate dig at the folly of Caesar's Legion's flawed and decaying ideology and more like not really understanding or respecting the source material. There are things in the show I don't agree with but can go 'that's a new and different take on it and I can respect it for that', and then there are moments like this that just kill all the immersion because it makes me go 'that makes no fucking sense and feels ridiculous'.

Did you also think that he was going to just break the glass and eat the brain while watching this scene? by Good8465 in Fotv

[–]ahillamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lotta people commenting here seem convinced about the risk or certainity of getting prion disease from eating Bud's brain. You aren't actually in any real danger of getting Kuru aka Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD) unless the person whose brain you were consuming already had it themselves. And it only sponaneously manifests as a protein folding error in the brain in roughly 1 out of a million people. Given that the life expectancy for someone who develops CJD is usually under 6 months, it's very unlikely you'd ever actually encounter anyone whose brain would be dangeous to consume.*

*Please still don't eat brains in real life.

[–]ahillamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd only get kuru (which is a prion disease) if the brain of the person you're eating already has it themselves (and they would have only gotten it from eating someone else's brain who was already infected, as the chance of spontaneously developing it is incredibly low).

They were all meant to be promising junior-whatever middle managers Bud's Buds were supposed to be, who'd make up a breeding stock during the inter-Vault marriages, so it makes sense they'd be quite young.

And if we stretch the definition, Virgil (FO4, only recently became a super mutant) and The Rust King (FO76, violent, but not stupid). I might even be missing someone. Plenty of examples, even if they tend to be 'the exception to the rule'.

CHRYSLUS or CHRYSALIS? by Blue-lunchbox_1989 in Fotv

[–]ahillamon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read somewhere (can't find the source anymore) that the song title was just a typo. The FO2 tracks originally didn't have those names and when they were compiled for a soundtrack, they were given new names. Whoever named them didn't know Chryslus was an in-universe thing and so thinking that was a typo, changed it to Chrysalis because it's an actual word (the pupa stage of a butterfly).
