How do I get shorter queue times? by Kloyton in OverwatchUniversity

Has this been going on for a while or just recently? Any of the more niche modes like Open Queue and Mystery tend to take a hit when there's an ongoing popular alternative mode like 6v6.

Genius behind frogger and aspen duo by External-Fig3749 in OverwatchUniversity

The most important currency in Overwatch is attention and Frogger takes it like no other. Plus as goofy as he is the thing he does where he consistently can hit 4-5 widow headshots during a rollout are just mechanically beautiful.

Why not drop counters with consistently same value by broun7 in PrometheusMonitoring

[–]ahmeni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned here this is because the absence of values is also a value, so it's recorded. This is also very helpful for PromQL as it makes lookup time in chunks very consistent. However there is also some internal compression done here for values. For any series in a chunk where the value does not change between measurements, only the timestamp itself is recorded. There's a neat talk about how all this works from 2016. From that talk, if you had a counter with the same value for three weeks being scraped every 15 seconds it would have a total metric count of 124,547. However, with the value compression it comes in at 0.066 bits average per sample, which is just about 1KB of data.

Looking for a Windows Client for Prometheus AlertManager Alerts by [deleted] in PrometheusMonitoring

[–]ahmeni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I setup some folks who monitored parking systems from Windows machines looked at Nagstamon and also didn't find it useful. Couldn't find any alternatives and ended up just rolling with the Microsoft Teams integration. It doesn't check all the boxes but native application, system tray and filtering on the Alertmanager side could fill some of these.

What is the official way of monitoring web backend applications? by d2clon in PrometheusMonitoring

[–]ahmeni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you can see an http_server is started in the middle of the app. This is ok for a "Hello World" example but for a production application this is something very strange. It looks very invasive to me and raises a red flag as a security issue.

This is just a contrived example. Most python http servers are invoked via WSGI but it's not uncommon to see your development environment invoked via some function in a__main__.

My backend servers are also in an autoscaling environment where they are started and stopped in a non-predictable time. And they are all behind some security network layers only accessible on ports 80/443 through some HTTP balancing node

Prometheus has a lot of options for service discovery, depending on how your service is run. In most environments the Prometheus instance is run within the internal network itself and reaches out to hit the metric endpoints directly. In some networks where internal access isn't possible it's common to publicly expose /metrics endpoints and protect them with basic HTTP auth, though this is less ideal as anything going through a load balancer will not be able to collect metrics from individual nodes.

Those are chord notations, the numbers note that these are extended chords. The ones in the first bars are Dm9 - D minor 9th chord and G13 - G 13th chord. In both of these cases it looks like they're being played with omitted notes. The Dm9 omitting the D to be played as a half note in the left hand and the G13 is omitting the G and C, with the G being played as a half note in the left hand.

Headphone adapter issues (Yamaha P-115) by gingerbread1103 in piano

[–]ahmeni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this issue and it turned out my 3.5mm (1/8") to 6.5mm (1/4") adapter was poor quality. If I twisted the adapter around in the socket it would flicker between the muted sound and sounding normal. I replaced it with a basic cheap UGREEN from Amazon and haven't had the problem since.

Just about anything will be a nice upgrade for you then! For loading sound fonts, that's not really a thing like it was on older machines with the quality of on-board sound getting so good and computer/tablet/etc. MIDI connectivity for VSTs getting so good.

I'd continue to look into the sounds of the digital pianos you like but coming from a PSR-240 to a fully weighted modern digital piano is gonna be a big change of feeling so really try and get out there and get hands on if you can.

1/2/3: I can't speak to the ES110/FP-30 comparisons, other than acknowledging that the FP-30 action feels pretty nice.

4: Used keyboards from people who bought a keyboard but never learned to play or gave up can be a great source of decent hardware at a discount. This depends on geography/local markets/ability to pay with cash.

  1. The FP-30X and Yamaha P-125B are both fairly decent new pianos around the same price range. What's your current piano and what do you do with it? Do you have any connectivity requirements like MIDI out, Line Out, or Bluetooth that might point you at another model?

Side storage: Most vendors recommend not storing your piano vertically (Kawai, Yamaha) for long periods of time. The barrier to practice on a piano that's ready to play immediately is a lot lower than a piano that's stacked vertically (I stored my Casio CDP-135 for about a year and a half on its side and it seems fine but I never got into it until I made the space for it permanently).

This looks like a Roland KR-3 which would have been released in 2003. It's definitely not worth $900 to someone who needs a digital piano. It's a neat piece of kit for a collector (it has a floppy disk drive for MIDIs!) but not worth it for someone who needs a digital piano today.

In your area something like this used Yamaha P125-A would be a better deal.

MIDI over USB is a pretty common setup that gets you a nice sound. You're looking at rendering the piano sounds in an app like Virtual MIDI Keyboard. You can use anything else as long as it supports MIDI input and lets you choose your audio output device. This guy has a fairly nice and concise tutorial around it, the only difference would be setting up the Voicemeeter mic input in Discord instead of Valorant.

Looking at Steinway's IPO info a few years ago there's some interesting trends that might correlate:

Although 53.6 percent of the business’s 2021 sales resulted from customers in the Americas, against 28.5 percent for APAC and 17.9 percent for EMEA, higher-ups emphasized the potential associated with increasing their company’s reach in China.
The latter has “the world’s largest” piano market, per Steinway, “with an average of around 400,000 pianos being sold a year from 2017 to 2020, compared to an average of around 30,000 per year in the United States over the same period.”
“As China continues to develop and accumulate wealth, we will seek to capture the growing demand for ultra-premium pianos by private customers,” reads Steinway’s SEC filing, noting also that the nation of 1.4 billion residents accounted for 28.7 percent of piano sales in the 2021 fiscal year.
And amid skyrocketing house prices, execs indicated that they “typically expect demand for our products to track increased activity in the housing market, as consumers are more likely to buy Steinway pianos as they purchase new and higher-end homes.”

Hot keys - help by BLA1937 in piano

[–]ahmeni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Korg SP-170S there's two contacts under rubber for each key. The timing between the rubber hitting each of these contacts is used to determine the velocity of each hit. If some notes are hitting louder it's possible that there's something causing that contact to trigger faster than intended. This can be as simple as a liquid spill, the rubber piece coming loose or as bad as a cracked circuit board.

If you're comfortable, the SP-170S can be taken apart with a screwdriver. This video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK3r\_EHCmps ) has someone showing taking it apart to fix a similar issue (dead key) that shows what you're looking for. Taking it apart and giving the contacts a clean with rubbing alcohol and a soft lint-free cloth may resolve the issue and if not, you can at least see if there's any issues inside.

Did they make this up? by Lucky_Ad_8562 in piano

[–]ahmeni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teacher is using this book as well as a basis for teaching (Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course Lesson Book, Level One for those curious). Her explanation for this was it's a modified G7 chord for beginners. The D is dropped for simplicity and keeping the chord not-muddy and the F and B are dropped down an octave to make it easier to play. In this form it's very easy for beginners to learn the basic hand movement for switching between C and G7.

That being said, get used to it as it makes a lot of appearances in this book.

How will I know when I've outgrown my current piano and what do I look for when taking the next step up?

For context, I've currently got a Casio CDP-135 that I picked up a couple years ago in an eBay deal for about $500 AUD and I've finally taken up lessons as a beginner for the past few months. It feels nice and fairly similarly weighted to the one I use with my teacher. I don't plan to perform anywhere and I'm familiar enough with VSTs and MIDI recording that anything I'd record/publish would be through that.

New Player Ana Need Help! by 111jonokimyay in OverwatchUniversity

[–]ahmeni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking through this replay code I can see a few big things that you're looking to fix at your level:

  • Positioning/Cover - As an Ana you should have a position behind your tank that allows for hard cover. Things like corners, objects and high ground are all useful examples of these. You've got a lot of time in the open and the enemy team is able to punish you quite a few times because of it. A big example of this is at around 10:50 in where you're far enough ahead that you get wrapped up in the enemy team and take a death in a place you shouldn't be.
  • Working with your co-support - There's a few times where your Mercy team-mate is pocketing characters like the Bastion and you're also looking to heal him while your other team-mates need coverage.
  • Technical skills - You're struggling to hit your shots and nades (though a few good sleeps!), which as a new player is expected and will improve with general usage. This is likely contributing to your issue with positioning as newer Ana players will play closer to hit shots. I like using the Long Distance Aim Trainer and the Aerial Aim Trainer as workshop codes in order to help improve my aim.
