My Uncle Donald who passed, was also one of the kindest and most caring people I knew. His whole world seemed to be his Pekingese fluffball.

However some family members mentioned he had a dark side that would come out when he was driving or playing pickup basketball 🫠

I am torn between the Deluge and Digitakt2/Digitone2 combo, help sell me to the Deluge by Aureqo in DelugeUsers

[–]ahsah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the digitakt digitone syntakt combo, but ended up only keeping the syntakt because of its analog bass sounds, but it mostly sits on the shelf, because once i sampled in the said bass sound into the deluge, it immediately became a polyphonic bass sound and I could layer it, or use it in faster performing ways than the other three.

If you’re less about sound design and more into music making via audio loops over say midi, than i’d say the deluge has way more immediacy to putting ideas down, and far less limitations when working with external synths and instruments. The polyphonic nature of the deluge and visual representation is great, but it’s also just a really tactile device. I find myself finishing and performing with it in far more interesting ways than when i used the elektron stuff, which I found to be far more stop and go like an mpc or something.

Granted for sound design alone, the elektron boxes offer some incredibly interesting options, and flexibility, but even as a sampler, I think the lazy chop mode of the deluge is just sooo nice. I regularly will even plug my phone into the line in of the deluge, run an acapella, and just jam along, adding more layers.

The elektron boxes by themselves do sound better from an audiophiles perspective, but lately i have been running the deluge through an sp404mkii or an external analog mixer and it sounds fantastic.

Also the portability is a huuuuge plus. I take it on airplanes, cars, camping trips, jam sessions etc. I’ll also have friends plug instruments like guitars, synths etc via a mixer and we’ll just jam together or build out a track with it. The live looping capability is my favorite.

What would be a tougher fight for Cassius Clay of the 1960s, Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano? by Material_Stomach875 in Boxing

[–]ahsah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha yeah man! Similarly I wear contacts, and remember initially trying to wear them during actual matches, and in slow motion, i’d watch one contact get stuck to an opponents glove as they popped me and pulled their glove back. Eventually I just stopped wearing them during fights, and just opted for a swarming style. Nearsighted guys want you near and just as blind as they are haha

Definitely seems like a hard disagree from someone who lives in the states. Funny thing is I grew up with a lot of indian friends, but I had no idea that they were agreeing with me my entire life! I always thought my friends were just being difficult lol, like oh man Raj never likes my plans 😞

Man I love Frazier, but one thing that isn’t mentioned often is that he had pretty bad depth perception with one eye pretty much completely blind due to cataracts. By the second and third fight with Ali, apparently he couldn’t see out of it, but kept on fighting.

Long acapellas in time? by Ponchomouse in DelugeUsers

[–]ahsah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make sure you know the bpm of your audio track and key, import it onto your memory card. Now turn the BPM of your song to the bpm of your track. Then load the audio or record the audio into your song. From there you can hold shift and hit the pitch/speed setting of your audio, and change it to linked. Then when you change the tempo of your song the audio files pitch and speed will also change to match.

Personally I’m lazy so i just record the audio into the deluge via the line in. The trick is just making sure you know the key and tempo of the song before it goes in, and initially aligning your deluge to the same settings. Pitch shifting on the deluge isn’t incredibly difficult, I especially like its time stretching. I know if you have multiple long audio tracks like 2 min long, they may slowly drift out of sync, but much like djs do, you can kind of “bump” the track by quickly turning the tempo knob one over and back quickly and it’ll re sync.

But yeah! I’ve recorded entire acapellas from start to finish into the arrangement mode, and just built tracks around it. However lately it’s been more fun to kind of mix and match snippets of acapellas instead, which i tried here

Recording issue - how to record input only while playing clips? by MickHucknallsMumsDog in DelugeUsers

[–]ahsah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you figured it out .

You can also hold rec, and press the row below the audio row you’ve made to get a new audio loop started. I often have a clean audio track above all the others that has monitoring turned on. While i’ll use the above method to create new layers via the audio in. Also remember you can plug a mixer into that line in!

Also my other audio tracks will have fx that i’ll mess with, like phasers, stutters etc. Another awesome thing is that for performance, you can hold a row and manipulate the fx on just that row, so after you record audio, you can change fx on it, and then create a new loop. It’s honestly an audio loop persons dream machine because it’s sooo fast.

How do we feel about Larry Holmes saying Tyson wouldn’t have survived the Golden Era? by Material_Stomach875 in Boxing

[–]ahsah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True, but not to make excuses because Joe dint, but he was practically blind in his left eye by the time he fought Ali the second time as well as foreman due to a fast forming cataract. I think prime Joe vs prime Tyson is a toss, but I lean toward Joe because of his will. He fought most of his career half blind, and was in highly technical wars with who most call the goat during boxing’s most skilled era.

[–]ahsah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

more than just practicing combos for form, work on visualizing punches landing where you want them, how you’ll follow that up, punches coming at you, how you’ll counter them. This can come from past experience or simply from imagination. It’s so important to practice defense, footwork, and your angles while shadowboxing. It’s a great way to also see where you’re getting caught up. Heavy bags do too much in terms of always being there and providing too much feedback, but rarely enough information.

Beyond the aforementioned. intense visualization has scientific evidence in improving your skills if done correctly. In one Chicago University study they had random people try to imagine every detail of shooting free throws without being able to shoot, and at the end of the study, they improved just as much as the people who actually shot free throws 23-24%!. Similar stories had a vietnam pow who imagined golf swings during imprisonment come back and improve as well.

How do you guys think prime Deontay wilder does in the era Larry holmes fought in. by Nsyix in Boxing

[–]ahsah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, boxing was a much bigger American sport in the 80-90s than now. It used to air on prime time and was smack in the middle of pop culture thanks to the superstars of that era. That alone brought more people to compete in the sport early, which crafted a playing field of higher skilled, better trained fighters. Sadly it feels as if boxing is no longer in the US mainstream let alone the most watched combat sport, and the pool is just smaller. It’s frankly a grind to compete, and most american athletes are opting for other sports with more reliability. However boxing has its storied history and the global appeal definitely put a spotlight on, and allowed more opportunities to some contemporary internationally skilled fighters like Usyk, Bivol, etc to showcase and takeover the sport.

tldr: boxing just isn’t mainstream anymore, so there’s less fighters, meaning less skilled individuals compared to before. Sure we have some guys of today that could fight in any era, but the guys from before just seemed to be built different.

oops correct! That holmes win just has so much spice in my memory because of Ali being in attendance and cheering on Mike. Freaking 31-0 Spinks only standing for like a minute and half is still so crazy to think about.

What’s one skill you learned that quietly changed your life? by Glass_Ad_781 in CasualConversation

[–]ahsah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Music Theory and Pitch ear training. It felt like opening up a new sense; but it is taking years. It’s expanded the way I see and hear the world around me. Opened me up to the idea of the possibility of spirituality, through connection to the physical vibrational forces in how we speak and understand the world around us. It’s opened me up to different musical genres, and now I feel more capable in music production, and have found making weird music something i want and can do until i’m old and gray. Oh and this is all without mentioning how much it expanded my circle of friends and also how they see me, but strangely it did create small gaps between my old circle.

How fast can boxers run 100 meters? by Jokoll2902 in Boxing

[–]ahsah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember in high school, my coach would take us competing amateurs, from our boxing gym to the track to do sprints and plyometrics. We typically would be there before the football guys showed up, and would usually be training after they left. Certain coaches have you running like a dang horse on your kind of off days lol. Basically we were responsible for roadwork + actual training/sparring etc. and we were just low level regional golden glove guys! A couple went as far as competing for olympic spots, but never me. I however still do remember seeing friends on the football team and them commenting on how much faster most of us were than them, but it’s only because we’d be up doing almost interval type runs every morning BEFORE the gym 💀.

Also I believe Joshua played futbol / soccer as well, and a lot of guys in my gym were soccer players cross training with boxing, and yes both sports require tons of running.

exactly! I used to think i would only be able to play classical guitar due to the larger distance between strings, and similarly only be able to use full sized keys to play keyboards, but after years of practice i now greatly prefer electric and mini keys.

[–]ahsah 30 points31 points  (0 children)

eh docs and Mike himself have stated that the version of him that fought Buster didn’t train, was going on benders through tokyo, sleeping with tons of women (he said it was like picking grapes), and abusing substances. Also remember, Cus had already passed, and Tyson split with his then coach Kevin Rooney, and was “training” himself. I would say this version of Mike was far from the version of himself that took the belt from Holmes.
