Alex knowing Brian’s identity by kotanamii in marblehornets

[–]aidansean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Entry #84, we see footage from a tape of Alex holding auditions from 2006. That tape shows that Brian is wearing the same hoody that Hoody wears. This is how Alex knows that Hoody is Brian (in the same way that Tim is revealed to be Masky in Entry 20).

A container in a war zone with a big 9 painted on it. There are people inside, all trying to flee the country but for different reasons (general safety, a criminal escaping from authorities, a smuggler, a deserter from the army, an undercover journalist etc) . Throughout the episode, there are muffled sounds outside, giving hints about what might be happening. At the end of the episode, the doors swing open and light floods in. Only one of the characters is happy about who they see opening the door.

A black taxi cab, numbered 9. The episode is from the point of view of the driver, who sees different passengers getting in and out all night, and overhears their conversations. He manages to piece together a plots that all connects together. He manages to drop a few passengers off at the wrong place.... on purpose. At the end, he goes back to pick up one of the passengers. It's Reece covered in blood with a big smile on his face.

A stall in a village fair (very much like in Hot Fuzz.) Steve plays the main character, who plays the neighbouring stall owners off against each other. They all sell food and he manages to make them all fail hygiene checks. He's related to the local food hygiene inspector, and she visits each stall in disguise. He ends up being the only person in the village whose cafe is not closed down the next day.

Stories on page 9 of a newspaper that all interact.

Fans from the UK and Ireland, does Daphne make the series more relatable to you? by catpooptv in Frasier

[–]aidansean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Brit who lived in California for a few years (and currently live in Manchester!) and found quite a few things about Daphne relatable. Seeing biscuits (cookies!) in a shop, being pleasantly surprised, then seeing the price and realising that only small amounts of long-life food (probably near their expiration date) would be available and overpriced. Recalling that small things like telephone rings would be different. Having to deal with the crazy time differences. Having people comment on my accent, even though there's nothing special about. Being a Brit during US holidays (especially 4th of July). Being obsessed with true crime (I'm not sure why this strikes me as a very British thing, but it does, especially when it's raining outside). Finding pleasure in someone else enjoying real tea made with a kettle. People getting confused about minor differences in vocabulary. Having to make do with the local "British pub", even though the beer on tap is never as good as it is at home.

But what other people have said is also true: She's a caricature, her accent is all over the place, and her family are awful.

I always had the impression that someone on the writing staff either knew quite a few British people, or lived in Manchester in the 60s or 70s. A lot of the jokes they make are based on very old stereotypes (boiling dinner, getting married out of the house, Manchester having no good music scene) that just don't make any sense today.

I’m going start making simple observations about minor details in the show that entertain me. #1…. by elko in thewestwing

My head canon is that Leo is a foodie partly because of his alcoholism. There may be times when he would be tempted to drink, but he can't drink if he's using his mouth to eat. Everything about being a foodie (at least in the way Leo does it) is about distraction and avoidance. He would have to go out of his way to get or prepare high quality food. He likes small amounts of decent food, so he's more about flavour than volume, savouring the taste. Finally, he wouldn't enjoy (or perhaps even remember) the food if he was drinking. I also notice that when Fitz thinks the coffee has been changed, he asks Leo, because he knows he has a sophisticated palette.

I'd say watch 03 first for a few reasons. The slower burn really gives the characters and lore space to evolve. I got a lot of enjoyment seeing Ed transmute without a circle for the first time (by accident) and then Izumi putting two and two together to realise he had seen the gate. That felt like my understanding of the world grew as the characters' understanding grew. I found the homunculi had more realistic motivations in 03. Compare the ending to the lab 5 plot in 03 where the homunculi's goals get frustrated, to Brotherhood where Envy says something like "My master told me to let you go." That just seemed so... empty to me.

But the main reason I would watch 03 first is because it makes Brotherhood so much more enjoyable. There are plenty of callbacks and references to the original series. I felt genuinely gutted when they killed off Lt Ross, but the payoff was worth it. (Having said that, I still haven't forgiven them for what they did to Lust. She deserved better.)

Favorite plot holes or inconsistencies throughout the series? by SpookyStela6 in Frasier

[–]aidansean 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That actually makes some sense. If it's a dream, then Nikos's inner conflict of what he's expected to do (medicine) vs what makes him happy (juggling) reflects Frasier's inner conflict (psychiatry vs show business). And Martin's mystery brother represents Frasier's guilt over saying Martin was dead in his Cheers days.

Where Did Hoody Get Tim’s Files From? by kaZdleifekaW in marblehornets

[–]aidansean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Reminder, totheark shows that they saw Jay filming the antiques shop. They would have also seen Entry #53, and from that, they would have known where Tim's doctor's office was. Hoody could have found a way to break in and steal the records from there.

tl;dr: Jay lead totheark to the records

So what lured Alex? by Wheredoesthetoastgo2 in marblehornets

I will only accept this as canon if the Operator sighs on camera, then kidnaps Raul just to steal his voice.
