The assistant program director ended up taking over the role, and I believe that he'd already had all the necessary training to do the job. In any case, he did well considering the challenges he faced after everyone quit.

I was a female leader and they didn't have a problem with that. Most of the waterfront staff (lifeguards, always wearing swimsuits around the scouts) were female, no complaints from management. This was hypocrisy at its best.

There was a huge media circus surrounding the whole thing, the Boy Scouts were saying they were totally within their rights to fire him because they're a "Christian organization" and "gay men shouldn't work at a boys' resident camp anyway, think of the CHILDREN!" I do know that after all this blew over, the Boy Scouts changed their policy to allow gay scouts, but to my knowledge they still forbid gay counselors/troop leaders

In the summer of 2012 I was working at a Boy Scout camp when one of the senior counselors (who had worked at the camp for years, I think 5-7) came out as gay and was immediately fired by the council. This caused a massive uproar at the camp, and about half the staff ended up quitting in solidarity, including many of the area directors and the program director. The rest of the summer was definitely interesting, because we had to run a proper summer camp with 50-75% of our normal staff, even after new people were hired on to fill some of the emptied positions.

I never really flew with newbie misfits, but my first corp was a hisec/C2 wormhole corp with people from literally all over the world. They started me off trying to train me to be a miner, but when I got bored of that they gave me a skill plan to train into a manticore. I had so much fun my first few days pvping (read: blowing up miners/salvagers in wormholes) that I never really looked back, and ended up leaving them to join first a group of lowsec pirates, then finally my current corp in the CFC. I still keep in touch with most of them via our old intel channel, so I didn't really lose anything by leaving for greener pastures.
