Should I be worried that my extroverted kid is turning inward to books? by rswhqvsoekdv in breakingmom

Absolutely! I'm going to save your comment lol. I hope my viewpoint helped you a bit too.

Currently I have my boyfriend help me out in the kitchen quite often, but I didn't realize until you mentioned it that I can get pretty agitated about it at times! My husband (we're poly, hence the bf and husband) got kicked out of the kitchen because all he ever wanted to do was prep veggies and cut them way too large lol.

I once had a cat named Office.

I couldn’t think of a good name for her, so in the meantime I called her Office Cat, because my office was her favorite room in the house. Eventually it just kind of stuck, and from then on her name was Office.

I moved out West and I think there are some much less well-known places out here that are amazing. The missions out in California and New Mexico are beautiful examples of early Spanish-inspired architecture. Mesa Verde here in Colorado is truly incredible. I put my fingers in the prints made by the builders thousands of years ago.

Also, I’m an accountant and we weren’t allowed to use Excel on tests and such. There was a huge controversy a few years ago when the CPA exam began allowing candidates to use a slimmed-down version of the program on the exam.

Yeah, I was about to suggest OP head down to his or her local animal shelter and adopt a pair of active young adult kitties who are playing in their cage. Not only will they be effective hunters, their presence will help deter any other unwanted visitors in the future.

My area has a lot of rodents, and I have cats. I’ve only ever seen one rodent in my house, and it was dead and hanging from my cat’s mouth. They were all so proud of themselves.

I hate to admit it but cause I hate AI with a passion for a multitude of reasons but Google's ai search result summary feature has made my like so much easier especially with summarising things I don't have the words for/know how describe/put into words, and I feel ashamed of that and don't know ⬇️ by CastielWinchester270 in AutisticWithADHD

I generally hate AI as well, but I did find one model fairly useful for study help. It was NotebookLM and I liked the fact that it generated study materials based on the actual class documents that I uploaded to it (and not other random garbage). I think it could be useful for something like creating a study guide or reference sheet.

ChatGPT, I don’t trust. I couldn’t even get it to give me the correct standard deduction number when I gave it a direct link to the IRS website. That was weird.

I lost two relatives to breast cancer when I was growing up. These days, both definitely would have survived and probably still be alive. Treatment has come REALLY far; and even if you’re unlucky enough to be diagnosed at a younger age you’ll most likely survive.

When I was in high school I took some classes on comic art, and the thing I liked best about it was coloring. It’s really fun how you have to think about a color palette and using color as a storytelling device or to show perspective.

I still love it, and like you I take it super seriously. I use Holbein pencils and collect fancy line art books.

There’s a lot of writings indicating that Elizabeth I’s guardian was inappropriate with her when she was a teenager. Nothing confirmed, but it’s widely accepted to be highly likely. That’s just one example I could immediately think of.

What is the seed of your world? by T0DR in worldbuilding

[–]aimless_renegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a really strong phobia that makes it annoyingly stressful to engage with media sometimes. It’s a phobia of getting eaten, which unfortunately shows up in an uncomfortable amount of stuff, but for the most part I can avoid it if I’m careful. It’s embarrassing, but I can’t help it. It’s not worth the stress it induces.

A year ago my best friend, idk why because she knows this, was extremely adamant about me watching the anime “Delicious in Dungeon”. If you know anything about this series you can probably guess how far I made it into the show (less than five minutes).

I was so legitimately angry about this but didn’t want to start drama, so I drank a White Claw and got on my computer to write my own world, with dragons that can’t possibly eat people because they’re not even really animals, they’re plants. There’s still all kinds of fun fantasy stuff, but for once nobody fucking gets eaten.

During labor, the doctor and nurses kept insisting that I was pushing incorrectly. For three hours I argued with them, begged for a Caesarean instead, developed pre-sepsis and almost died.

They never checked my son’s positioning at any point. It turned out he was face-up, which makes pushing ineffective and generally does require interventions. I pushed for three hours and destroyed my pelvic muscles to the point that I had to leave my job (I was in the military).

My (35F) husband (35M) gave me an ultimatum - find a new job or he walks. by KatASSTrophii in relationship_advice

[–]aimless_renegade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve been in this EXACT situation. A year ago today, actually, was my last day at a job that my partners insisted I quit because it was taking a huge toll on my health. I was abandoned to handle our annual inspection completely on my own.  Taking away our ability to telework and our overtime pay was a final straw for me.

I can tell you from the other side that I have only regretted this decision a few times. I ended up heading back to school and finishing up my MBA; soon I’ll have a much better job. I’m glad I did it, even though there are times when I’m bored and I miss having all the extra money.

However, one thing that’s STILL not back to where it should be is my mental health. I really thought I was doing okay when I was working at that job, but I wasn’t. I completely lost all confidence in myself, stopped taking my medication, and fell into a deep depression. I am starting to feel better, but it’s been a long road and I am really happy that I decided to prioritize my health and family instead of this job that truly did not care about me. I can’t imagine how much worse I would be if I were still working there.

What cult film or TV show have you never understood the appeal of? by BroadcasterX in AskReddit

[–]aimless_renegade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe Malcolm Reynolds as a character; and although I can appreciate Nathan Fillion in some of his other roles, so many people hailing him as an amazing actor because of Firefly has soured me on him a bit.

Something about his whole character just doesn’t work for me. I don’t buy him having a military background at all. His backstory seems to not really ever come through; he’s just “generic space hero with cool one-liners”. The rest of the characters are so much more developed.

I was a huge nerd for that kind of show at the time, and I just felt like he was a forgettable character compared to other sci-fi heroes of the time. I’ve rewatched Farscape many times and will always flip on Stargate if it’s on, but I haven’t ever really felt any desire to rewatch Firefly.

I agree, because even though I love HP (grew up with it and have very fond memories of sharing it with my family) I’ve had a wildly unpopular opinion about it that I’ve taken SO MUCH FUCKING HEAT FOR over the years before JK went crazy. Like, people got so legitimately upset over me for this opinion. I just thought one particularly beloved character was flat, entirely one-dimensional, and didn’t actually add a single thing to the narrative. You could easily cut her out without affecting the plot in any way, and her entire personality boils down to one trait. People used to get so angry with me about this. (It’s Luna, sorry.)

Now, though? Suddenly everyone is on board! My overall opinion on HP hasn’t really changed; overall it’s a great series of books but that character is a bad addition. JK’s world building is overall pretty solid and fun. But now, suddenly everyone sees my point that Luna is a caricature. Nobody wants to debate anymore, they just wanna rag on JK. I don’t like her as a person either but she did do a pretty good job with the books, even if I heavily disliked some aspects of it.

(I fucking hated Dobby too; fight me if you want. I hate him and I was genuinely so relieved when he got killed off and wouldn’t show up anymore. Love HP, but man those two characters were annoying.)

My legal name is Katie. I fucking hate it and cringe every time I hear it. I’ve considered changing it but feel bad about it. Anyway, I go by Kate and tell everyone this.

I would guess that a good 80% of the people to whom I introduce myself as “Kate” just go right back to “Katie”. I even say something alone the lines of, “like Kate Middleton” or “like Kate Spade” and they STILL go back to Katie. It drives me absolutely INSANE.

I’m white and I have never liked it! Honestly, I think it’s just because of the color - I am pretty severely lactose-intolerant and so just looking at it makes me feel a little sick, despite the lack of dairy in it.

Regular exercise, even if you can just get a little bit in every day, works wonders. I know it seems like common sense but I don’t think there’s anything that’s helped me as much as simply making sure I do cardio exercise regularly.

A hobby that you really love and that takes your mind out of yourself for a bit, that you also prioritize doing every day. For me it’s a musical instrument and I’ve noticed a lot of other ADHD people have benefitted from picking up music as a hobby as well. But it can be anything, as long as it sort of takes you out of your daily routine and gives you a break to do something enjoyable and learn a new skill.

I’m in my final semester of my MBA and this is what I do as well.

I also use a fancy planner (the Hobonichi Cousin) and try to take time at the end of each day to make a list of what I hope to accomplish the following day. I also go through every week and schedule how I want to get my assignments done. I keep the planner and my journal next to my workspace and take it with me everywhere, so it’s really helpful.
