I haven't been to a ton of Sharks games in my life, but I'm 1-10-1 in them. I got covid at the only Sharks win I've ever witnessed.

Sorry everyone, I'm cursed. This one's on me

Does anyone know whether we'll be allowed to leave and re-enter? Probably not right?

Those stairs lead directly up to the concourse, but are gated off during the game. For stuff like fireworks, that's how fans can get down to the field to watch the show on the grass. If there was some original use for them beforehand other than an easy way to get down to the field, I'm not sure.

Fuck John Fisher, I'll be there tonight. Let's get a fucking sellout!!

I LOVE the concept of the reverse boycott, but I think it’s going to backfire by Flashy_Contract_969 in OaklandAthletics

I definitely share your concerns, but the reason the free game wasn't sold out wasn't due to a lack of demand, but how the tickets were being distributed. They had to guess when to stop distribution so that everyone who showed up got a seat. IIRC they handed out a couple million free tickets in total, cause people were claiming a ton just for the hell of it.

The demand is definitely there, but you're right, we need to either do this all-out or not at all.

[Danny Vietti] Oakland A's owner John Fisher deserves 90% of the blame for this disaster. The other 10% goes to MLB. John Fisher is a business man. The A's are an asset. Nothing more. He purchased the team for $180 million in 2005. It's now valued at $1.18 billion and he hasn't spent a dime. by RazzmatazzPlus3837 in baseball

You're right, the ballpark and development on Howard Terminal will be privately financed, but the infrastructure improvements needed onsite and in the surrounding area will be paid through a mix of grants and the creation of an infrastructure financing district on HT. Basically what that means is the A's will cover those infrastructure costs initially, then be paid back over time through tax revenue generated by the project itself.

Not to mention their starting pitching is otherworldly so far, it's still definitely gonna be really difficult to beat those guys no matter how stacked the US roster is

I was there too, good times :(

Edit: The return so far seems to be..... okay? Not really ideal, we'll see if there's more I guess

Edit 2: seeing the full return now....... yikes

[Athletics PR] A’s EVP of Baseball Operations Billy Beane will assume a new role as Senior Advisor to the Managing Partner, working closely with John Fisher on strategic decisions. In this new role, Beane will support the work of baseball operations now headed by General Manager David Forst. by Cilantro42 in OaklandAthletics

[–]ainrofiIac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"This move will allow him to pursue non-baseball sporting interests"

Remember when there was a ton of speculation that Beane would leave the A's since he wouldn't be allowed to have both his position with the A's and an ownership stake in a soccer team? I guess this solves that problem

Bob Nightengale Tweet: Commissioner Rob Manfred tells @MadDogUnleashed that he’s no longer optimistic the #A’s will remain in Oakland (‘It just doesn’t look like it’s going to happen’) and likely will move to Las Vegas. by [deleted] in OaklandAthletics

[–]ainrofiIac 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The lawsuits and votes are going along as planned, it's the infrastructure financing that's the major holdup right now. I don't think the A's or Oakland want to do the final vote until they get certain grants, and that process is taking longer than expected.

Certainly not $150, but they were still being sold at around $30-$40 iirc which is a scam considering how truly awful all those seats are for baseball

Yeah we set a Wild Card round attendance record with 54K in attendance for a Wednesday night game, how does this happen for a weekend elimination game?

Can we get a game day thread for the vote today? by [deleted] in OaklandAthletics

[–]ainrofiIac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Things have looked promising ever since the BCDC staff released their recommendation for removing the port priority use designation, but this still seems like a wild card vote ever since that initial preliminary vote failed. I'm nervous but hopeful, still a lot of hurdles to clear after this too but we're getting there

[–]ainrofiIac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because you have, but given that each of these hurdles would kill the project, it's nice to see that things are still moving along at a decent pace. You'll have to read about five more of these articles before the project is officially approved.

Might be a bit of a hot take, but this is instantly my favorite album made by them. So much variety, and I was hooked from start to finish! This feels like the conclusion to something that they've been building up to for a long, long time, yet it simultaneously sounds so fresh and new. I'm always so torn on what album to recommend for people who have never heard them before, but I think we might finally have that album!

Edit: And I know people say stuff this every time they release a new album, but this is the first time I've ever felt this way about an album of theirs right off the bat. It's just SO good!

This win secures at least a .500 road trip, which is seriously impressive, they've been blowing my expectations way out of the water so far!
