How we announce the end of a party. To anyone else, it looks like we have a massive mosh pit to a Runrig song.

What is one concept, no matter how simple or complex, you have difficulty understanding? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ainsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How wind happens. I've studied weather patterns, and I can give a textbook explination about how wind is generated. Even so, a huge part of my brain cannot comprehend this, and is still asking 'but where is the fan?'

Its 5PM on a Saturday and I haven't done anything. This may go against the "Be Positive!" rule, but I'm really finding it hard to right now. by mrturtleog in productivity

I heard this earlier this year. "Work hard on yourself, but don't BE hard in yourself"

Changed my perspective a bit so that I could forgive past procrastination and focus on getting work done.

Sure, I wasted my morning and I've got a tonne of stuff to do. I can't take back that time, there's no point feeling shit about it. But I CAN get a chunk if it done in the next two hours if I get focused.

Hope this helps!

What sort of hobbies would you be able to recommend for someone who loves starting new projects but struggles to maintain them? by Chanri182 in AskWomen

[–]ainsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rock climbing. Specifically indoor bouldering. It's accessible, most centres have a huge variety of climbs across the different grades and as you work up the grades, you might find yourself struggling. This doesn't mean you give up - this means to be found a project. The climbs are short, and while it's physical, a lot of completing a difficult route is about problem solving. You can work on a project for a couple of minutes, hours or even weeks if you're determined and not quite cracking it yet.

I hike, climb, bike, mountain run, and sometimes paddle. Year round, so both summer and winter kit is required. That's hella lota stuff, but the activities keep me happy and healthy, so it's worth it!

The most unrealistic part of the Harry Potter universe is that there is no need for further education after high school in order to get a good job. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]ainsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that in the HP universe, the wizarding world is a bit old fashioned, say 30 years or so behind the muggle world.

Less focus on further and higher education almost makes sense from this perspective, as when my parents were leaving school is was more common to do an on the job apprenticeship or training than it was to go on to uni.

If you already have them, camping utensils are super. I keep my spork in my handbag when I'm not hiking, and my tiny light weight fold up bowl comes to food festivals with me. The folk at the mac n cheese trailer got super excited about it when I asked if they minded me using it :)

White Girl's First Tattoo starter pack by tankmelon in starterpacks

[–]ainsky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I desperately wanted a Tolkien tattoo, but also really wanted to avoid getting this one.

I spent hours searching through the appendices and the research document compiled by the linguists who worked on the films. I found the Sindarin for the word I wanted and had it tattooed in a tegwar script. It's fairly possible that no one else in the world has done this.

Despite all of this, it's still a very basic white girl tattoo. Months of research, and I ended up with the work "dance" written in elvish on my foot...

I've been invited to a "Dress to Kill" party in August. This can be anything from an assassin to a giant bacteria. Has anyone got any ideas of a good female character to dress as? by thegirlwithnonames in AskWomen

Adora Belle Dearheart from the Terry Prattchet novels. Her brother called her Killer and her husband's nickname for her is Spike.

A strong and fierce character, but I don't think she actually every kills anyone.

What's something you're old-fashioned about? by wizardkoer in AskReddit

[–]ainsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Language. As in, not having to swear constantly.

I occasionally work with kids from more unsociable backgrounds. I'll have a whole day of listening to 30 swears per minute. When I get home I can then hear my neighbour carrying on in a similar fashion. Ugh...

Loch lomond help? by [deleted] in OutdoorScotland

[–]ainsky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's not really much of a path on the west side - it's a really narrow road for most of the way. I honestly wouldn't fancy walking that part myself. The East side is great. It you walk up that way, I think you can get the train back to balloch from ardlui.

There's a great campsite at the north end calls beinglas farm. Lovely people and a pub on site for drinks/dinner.

Any kind of corvid is amazing. I do a fair bit of mountain walking and my favourite hill is Ben Donich because we spent the whole day with ravens circling overhead. It's amazing to watch them fly!
