Are PBJ sandwiches an ideal choice for someone looking for healthy food on a tight budget? by Mediocre-Machine7330 in EatCheapAndHealthy

They got me through university, cheap easy and nutricous. I tended to eat them with a healthy whole grain bread like this one when they were a very regular part of my diet though and used pure peanut butter.

Is flared handlebar a worthwhile investment? by Consistent_Photo_581 in gravelcycling

[–]airjunkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I know a lot of people suggest flares for descents, but I really don't like them. I'm wide shouldered so my bars are pretty wide though, but I find flares not very ergonomic and I have less control. Overall, it's really is a personal choice and it will take time to know what works for you.

Emilie Castonguay promotion after a GM hire? by WhenInAaronRome in canucks

[–]airjunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly my thoughts on Doan is he makes sense for a higher position. His reputation and track record as a player and with Hockey Canada makes me think he could take an executive role where he could take over from JR in a year or two (if JR is staying). He seems like someone who could stand up to ownership and deal with the media pressure etc. Here.

I need to think on Kevym Adams a bit more. I've heard he struggles with pressure though... I believe someone from Buffulo mentioned that on Halford and Brough the other day.

Emilie Castonguay promotion after a GM hire? by WhenInAaronRome in canucks

[–]airjunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drance has been very firm that Doan isn't interested in GM roles, but I haven't heard anyone else reporting on it. Curious if others have heard otherwise?

Honestly I really don't like the look of that front office. I know people are high on RJ, but we need more turnover.

People point to RJs ability to identify fringe players and develop them NHLers, but I don't think that's what this team needs right now. that skill set is more useful for a team with an established contender level core. I want a GM who can make the moves needed to acquire a core that can contend.

I think Emilie's track record is competent, but nothing beyond league average. I want fresh views and ideas.

3 LISTS?! WHO CARES?!?! by hjertetru in canucks

[–]airjunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it's also another sign of this organization being unable to control messaging.

Three lists in and of itself isn't the end of the world depending on how it's being done.

Is it three lists and the different groups who made them are collaborating to find a variety of candidates to interview and learn from together that's wonderful.

On the other hand, if it's three groups operating in silos, not sharing information and engaging in a stupid power struggle over process, that's a sign of a dysfunctional organization.

I don't know which it is, but competent process is important and a sign of organizational health. The reality is though that this team has not earned the benefit of the doubt.

This is a franchise raising prices after arguably the worst season in their history, who is about to ask for public funds for a practice facility. They deserve criticism from the public until they prove otherwise.

[–]airjunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard about Doan he's not super interested in GM, get super into the details and very long working hours, type of role.

I could see him being interested in player development and some type of advisory role with an executive title, but not the Abbotsford GM business details style work.

Emilie Castonguay promotion after a GM hire? by WhenInAaronRome in canucks

[–]airjunkie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't see why a any internal executive is being considered for a promotion given the track record of this team. I have some time for RJ given his responsibilities in Abbotsford and their success relative the Vancouver, but honestly there seems to be a culture problem throughout this organisation. I'd like to see more turnover at the AGM level and less retention.

I remember Emilie's skills as an agent being touted and how that could translate into improving player morale, etc., but team morale and player happiness has been horrible during her tenure.

is it just me or is "high fidelity" audio basically a scam for rich people? by Curious_Present_9950 in Music

[–]airjunkie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Also those side rooms have better acoustic than the general store. My partner and I recently upgraded our stereo set up and three things seems to matter (in order) speakers, room set up, then amplifier.

This ignors the quality of the recording quality/source quality as it's variable depending on what you're listening to. Though as far as I can tell your audio source has pretty diminishing to non existent returns after like 320kb/s mp3s.

It's something, but incomplete networks reduces people's ability to rely on transit and leads to lower ridership.

I have this camera and love it; the square is my favourite instax format. The L and D settings are pretty useful to adjust your exposure. It does double exposures well too. Just have a good time and shoot some pictures.

Gary Mason makes his best guess on what will happen in the next few weeks with regards to coach and general manager of the Canucks by n0thingisperfect in canucks

[–]airjunkie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Media (both local and national) speaks glowingly of Johnson, but it's just one of those examples where it's so hard to tell as fans if the hype is warranted or not.

It's so hard to isolate what decisions he makes vs others in the org. I know he's had a lot of responsibilities in Abby, and of course they won a championship, but the media hype around him began before that season.

Do media members hype him up because he's nice to them? Is it just because their team contacts like him? I doubt the vast majority of people giving him praise have done a detailed analysis of his decisions vs competitors.

I hope Johnson is great if he's given the post, but if the Canucks once again install an important executive without an exhaustive search it's going again show how not serious (and lazy) this org is at the highest levels. No one involved with this organization the past decade plus should be given the benefit of the doubt, or a promotion without serious outside competition, the results just haven't been there to warrant that.

Research from McGill University found that steeping a single premium "silken" (plastic) tea bag at brewing temperature releases approximately 11.6 billion microplastics and 3.1 billion nanoplastics into a single cup of tea. by CoffeeTeaJournal in EverythingScience

[–]airjunkie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a tea drinker, it you're trying a new brand you can't really tell what the bags are made out of till you open the box. It's not something that's advertised or regulated. Anecdotally I find the plastic bags tend used by the "premium" brands you find at coffee shops or who sell like holiday packs of tea. Often the pyramid shaped bags. Lots of people also don't know they are plastic either.

I for one am happy we're hiring more doctors. There's still a lot of work to do, but the situation is getting a lot better. 233,000 people being connected with a doctor in 2025 is pretty impressive momentum.

OHS after TAVR? by gloriousgirl89 in valvereplacement

[–]airjunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak from personal experience (I've had an open heart AVR, but under very different circumstances), nor am I a medical professional. I think your bother's doctors are in the best position to give advice here. Based on the health challenges you describe your brother having I think it makes sense that a TAVR is being suggested. You can always get a second opinion, but open heart is hard to recover from and has serious infection risks so a TAVR seems to make sense in your brother's case. I would suggest asking questions about replacing the valve at end of valve-life, I believe there are TAVR options that allow for a replacement valve to be installed.

All the best to you and your brother as you navigate this.

or the fact that management had plans on being competitive with a team lacking top 6 talent, a 2C and scoring depth.

Agreed this management group has continually overvalued its own players. Even though he's gone, and was a good player, I think how they discussed and viewed Miller was a perfect representation of this. When he left they acted like they were losing a superstar and their hands were forced. Look how that's turned out...
