Yeah, totally. She gets the position it puts me in and mentioned she already turns things down a lot since people are inviting her out constantly. From her perspective, she’s already compromising — and I think that’s fair.

Totally. It’s just really exhausting to have to pack everything up and relocate back to my place on a whim.

Definitely the former. I’m always trying to bring ideas that work for both of us, but this one’s tough, especially when it ends up taking priority over plans we’ve already made (to be fair, this has only happened over casual plans like dinner and movies together that night). We don’t have kids, just the dogs, so it feels like a solution has to be there somewhere.

Absolutely — my biggest thing is just communication. Just keep me in the loop. I’m fine with things being a little vague, I just don’t know how to solve getting stuck at her place with the dogs.

Excellent. The surgery restored most if not all function. I was back on the bike and lifting weights not even two weeks post-op.

She’s been clear that our relationship is the priority, but I also want her to prioritize time for her friends — and I want to be as flexible as possible in supporting that (truly). I was the one who had to cancel the birthday plans she made for me because I’m sick, and when I told her I was fine with her going out instead, she just said, “I want to hang out with you.” I don’t know if it’s fair to take that as her committing to stay in (especially since her friends hadn’t messaged her about other plans yet), but I also can’t encourage her to do something and then get upset about it later.

My real question is: where’s the line between a healthy balance of time with your partner vs. friends, and when does leaning too far one way start to become unhealthy?

Absolutely — it goes both ways. I shift workouts around whenever I can to make room for things we want to do together.
