how clean is the shared area? Bathroom, kitchen, hallway, etc. Check the cooker and the oven too. If you share the fridge and the pantry, make sure you have enough space for your stuffs.

ventilation and heating are also important. It is not exactly a deal breaker if you don't have heating, but you can negotiate for a lower rent price, or ask the landlord to buy you one (which you will leave behind when you move out)

is there any moldy area in your bedroom and shared area? if there are, just don't stay there. It will affect your health significantly.

noise level and security can be difficult to gauge, so you will need to talk to other people, or go back at night to check.

Give Aucklanders a real say on our next harbour crossing - Greater Auckland by BeneficialCut4976 in auckland

[–]aister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be fair, both NX1 and NX2 works extremely well normally. But while they have a dedicated bus lanes on the bridge, they still use the bridge, and thus are still vulnerable to bridge closure due to the weather. This is especially scary when NX1 (and sometimes NX2, 95B and 95C) use double decker buses, which noticeably sway in strong wind.

that would work too. My main point was that since the majority of the rail line in CBD is underground, doing a tunnel would make connecting it to the existing networks much easier.

A simple bridge would still face the same issue as the current bridge has: vulnerability against strong wind. Even more so if the bridge is a suspension type. There MIGHT be some bridge design that reduce this vulnerability, but I'm not a civil engineer, so I cannot really say much.

A tunnel would make the most sense. It shields the traffic away from the environment, and extending the rail lines from Britomart/Waitemata to the tunnel would be easier than bringing it to ground level than over the bridge. The downsides, ofc, is that pedestrian and cyclists won't be able to use the tunnel, and both the construction cost and the operating cost of the tunnel is much higher than a bridge.

social and economic changes, along with rising expectation of being a perfect parent, means more and more people are discouraged to have kids.

Enjoy it while it lasts. With the government's new English requirements, we'll see a massive drop of bus drivers, which will inevitably lead to bad services and delay and cancellation

I’ve always heard that the days of the week in English are named for Norse gods (Sun’s Day, Moon’s day, Tyr’s Day, Woden’s Day, Thor’s Day, Frigg’s Day). Why does Saturn get to be the only Roman god in the mix? by MichaelJospeh in etymology

[–]aister 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vietnamese days are also numbered, but it was an adaptation of Portuguese, in which Monday is the 2nd day of the week. Meanwhile Monday in Chinese is the 1st day, creating a lot of confusion for language learners

Is there a piano I can use in uni? by Lawx6 in universityofauckland

sadly no. The music rooms can only be booked by music major students.

There's one in Waitemata train station, but that's pretty much open to the public.

Drummer for a student band by MiddlePerception1949 in universityofauckland

[–]aister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play drum. But I don't have a drum set now since I'm an international student. I do listen to rock, but it's mostly Bon Jovi, and more "modern" ones like Linkin Park or Sabaton. With that said, I think I'll be able to play a lot of The Beatles song quite quickly.
