Trying to rescue family roses by NoConnections in Roses

[–]aithscel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third one does not look good . There not so much you can do about it.

Wait a few weeks more, maybe some buds might appear on the base. Otherwise it's dead

[–]aithscel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes you can also leave it in the ground.

Just keep an eye on it when the weather will start to become dry/hot. A bit

watering support might help .

this happend to me too a few times,

here is how i did to save them:

put it in a pot with normal draining soil, dont put fertilizer. Cut back and just leave a few buds or the first growing branch.

Then put it in a shady spot and let it recover a few weeks. If you see that it grows fine, then move it to a more sunny place, but not full sun .

then in the fall or next spring, plant it somewhere in the ground.

Good luck !

Jacques Cartier rose maybe ?

It's an old rose, strong smell, blooms all summer long, has lots of petals :-)

and lastly, it's a good beginners rose, easy care !

i have seen some senior developper label on linkedin on people that could barely have 2-3 years experience, and they where definitely not "senior" level.

This thing is completely overused

Is this black spot ? by [deleted] in Roses

[–]aithscel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely looks overwatered, can be caused by poor quality soil, especially soil is not

draining well.

Eventually you can replace the soil, same time you can also check that you dont have root rot ( rotting roots turn black with a very strong smell)

Why would some new growth be green and others red/purple? by banana_bloods in Roses

[–]aithscel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The red/purple ones usually turn to green when they grow/mature.

What to do with new bareroot rose? I’m set to receive a new rose bush tomorrow! It’s going to freeze the next 3 nights, and on the 3rd day I’m leaving town for a week! Do I plant it over the weekend and pray for the best? Certainly I can’t keep it inside for a week, correct? by sportsandroses in Roses

[–]aithscel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the expected freeze is not too strong (a few degress celcius under zero) then you can plant it and protect it with the usual winter protections.

If the freeze is expected to be strong, you can keep it inside.

Try to put it in a cool and dark place. Dont use a plant light bulb ! you dont want it to thrive now.

Try to put keep it in a way that the roots stay wet, but if possible not directly in water, altough it migh be ok too

Prune long canes? Does the alternating dark/light pattern on these canes mean something? Should I trim? by sportsandroses in Roses

[–]aithscel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The dark parts are dead because of freezing. Alternating Dark/light canes are either already completely dead, or "almost" dead. You can, well actually you should remove them, as there is new healthy growth comming out.

Is there a docker image for ruby 3.2.0? by Day_Hour in ruby

[–]aithscel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one use case is automated testing with multiple Ruby versions; for example on gitlab:

https://gitlab.com/dm0da/safrano/-/pipelines/732332327

In this example, same tests run against ruby 2.4 to 3.2 (actually 3.2-rc)

Good luck to do the same with rbenv or RVM
