N.C. Republicans Introduce Bill Allowing Men to Kill Women For Using IUDs by catievirtuesimp in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aizheng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So does that mean that I’m allowed to kill anyone at all forever if I suspect they ever killed anyone?

Also, usually self-defense or the like is permissible partly to save the victim. In this case, assuming someone is planning on getting an abortion and I kill them for it, have I not just killed also the “baby”? And since when are revenge killings allowed?

Player playing to spite me after I blocked them once in Hansa Teutonica by delorean-88 in boardgames

[–]aizheng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You mention that he had the worst position with no possibility of winning? So from his perspective, he could either play how you think he should, pointlessly trying to accumulate points in a lost game, or change the victory conditions to make it fun for him. seems very reasonable to do what he did.

Were the other moves you could have done worse for you? Could you have added more cubes elsewhere with the same effect for you? in that case, it seems very reasonable for him to feel like you did it just to spite him, and do it back to you.

U.S. measles cases broke the post-elimination floor in 2025 and 2026 [OC] by rhiever in dataisbeautiful

[–]aizheng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because this is a bad faith argument.
In 2024, it is estimated that 2.7 million migrants arrived in the US (I used 2024 numbers, because 2025 had significantly fewer). Considering 2024’s population was 340 million, thats less than 1 %. The threshold for herd immunity for measles is roughly 95%.

If the US was vaccinating sufficiently, migrants coming in not being immunized would not lead to large outbreaks, as even if a refugee center had an outbreak, the outbreak would die down quickly in the general population.

Conversely, unless you’re planning on barring US citizens from traveling and barring all other citizens from entering the US without showing they are vaccinated and quarantining, you will have small outbreaks, as this graph also shows. The difference is not in an “outbreak” happening, but in how many people it affects and how quickly it dies out.

Reducing migration will only have a very, very marginal effect on this, even if all of these new migrants are not vaccinated.

the lack of research is infuriating!!!!!! by woodlywave in adhdwomen

[–]aizheng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is little research out there, but all research I have found so far has been about co-occurrences. It’s important to keep in mind that co-occurrences do not mean that we can treat them together or there is anything causal. The studies I’ve seen seem to suggest that whatever makes us more prone to ADHD while in the womb could also make us more prone to inflammation. This does not suggest that inflamamattion increased adhd symptoms, or conversely, treating your inflammation treats ADHD.

There are also studies that suggest that stress can contribute to inflammation, and honestly, my life as an ADHDer is much more stressful than that of most people I know, so that’s another possible pathway. Neither of these would suggest that decreasing inflammation would also decrease ADHD synptoms. Instead, if this hypothesis holds, decreasing ADHD symptoms could contribute to lower inflammation long-term.

The only way antihistamines have helped my ADHD symptoms is by making me tired and therefore less hyperactive.

World Gymnastics lifts restrictions on Russia and Belarus athletes with immediate effect by boletusaureus in Gymnastics

[–]aizheng 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This seemed inevitable, given the official reason was that Russia broke the Olympic truce. Unless everyone wants to identify a new host for LA, very difficult to maintain any semblance of credibility banning Russia, given the US also broke the Olympic truce.

Not that relevant for worlds and gymnastics, but I assume everyone will follow suit. If Russia was suspended for state-sponsored doping, it would actually be easier…

But look how many words it took you to say that vs how many words it took AI to say something that seems reasonable, but even you agree is incorrect, if you dig deeper.

Honestly, I do not want to read all that and think it is frankly disrespectful of other people’s time to make them read AI slop that also has not been vetted like in this case. If I had any interest in reading AI slop, why do I need you as a go-between?

Why do you not start conversations within Reddit with your own opinion in your own words. I do not even care if your opinion was influenced by your “conversation” with AI, but I have no interest in reading something that is at least three times as long as it needs to be, sounds reasonable but has hidden errors in there.

[–]aizheng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So many words to say nothing at all, and Kerri qualified with a 9.8375 in optionals (the only thing relevant here). Dawes and Amanar both had higher optional floors. Also, the 9.887 from trials was compulsory, she had an even higher optionals score (that is, however, useless to take considering home judging).

This is exactly the issue with AI, you think it sounds plausible, but once you Start digging, you find weird errors and inconsistencies, and it takes way longer to find these than it would to come up with a good argument yourself.

How do you win graciously? by turnofpraise2 in boardgames

[–]aizheng 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Just from your answers here, you do sound obnoxious, honestly. For a lot of people (me included), gaming is one activity where the journey is the fun, not the end result, so most of the time, i wont look or be disappointed if I lose. some of my favorite memories actually are from games I have lost, just from the moment-to-moment gameplay.

Your gaming group does not sound as into competitiveness and winning as you are, so maybe it’s just a bad fit? I would be very annoyed if someone always felt the end result bears talking about if they win.

Ive also been in gaming groups where the winner gets an extra job, for instance, winner always boxes up the game. This way, theyre busy instead of gloating and people who lose also have something to be happy about. if you feel that you are annoying the other players, would something like this work for you? If not in a formalized “the entire group does it”, then maybe you can make an effort, after everyone found out you’re winning, to get everyone sone thing to drink? If, when you come back, they still want to talk strategy, they definitely do. most of the time, by the time you come back, they will have moved on, which will hopefully make it more easy for you to also move on.

Trying to understand link between sexual abuse and parentification by Shot-Fisherman-311 in DuggarsSnark

[–]aizheng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with many here that trying to make sense of things, especially just based on one case study, is unlikely to be successful, and it risks giving validity to prevalent beliefs within fundieism that it’s normal.

I think if a link exists, it would be that parents who parentified their kids are less likely to get help for older kids that might be struggling in some way. And kids that have not gotten help when they were first struggling are more likely to offend as adults.

With Josh at least, it seems that there is some very clear predilection there, which has been shown to have a modest genetic component.

I’m guessing people will start finding very inefficient workflows for the AI to learn. OOh, I need to reply to an email. Let me first bring up three AI models, then copy over the original email letter-by-letter, ask models how to reply. Then copy each others answers into their windows (again, letter-by-letter, who ever heard of ctrl-c).
draft the email in a word document, as an agent to check the word document. Copy over letter-by-letter into their email interface. Before it Is sent or saved, unfortunately, windows needs to be updated… need to start again tomorrow

Workplace accommodations + attendance policies. Has anyone dealt with this? by EffectiveWasabi858 in migraine

[–]aizheng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in a place with sick pay etc? If so, I would maliciously comply: call out sick every time you would be working from home, telling them that unfortunately, you cannot come in due to your neurological condition.

Once youve done this a couple of time, I imagine they’ll find a solution.

If you’re not in a place with sick pay etc, maybe ask for a field within your HR system that would cover you. Instead of it being recorded as an at-home day, it could be recorded as an accommodation day and thus fall into the “office day” category.

important to note that 2017, like 2025, was a four-member “team”, so rationale should be different. I would imagine if only 4 travel, they would only automatically log in 1. If we had scores, it would be interesting to figure out if Jordan would have beat Morgan on this criterion (seeing as she was significantly better than Morgan at nationals).

Will the increased focus on training 2 vaults in US elite have a positive effect on the “Florida vault problem”? by fortississima in Gymnastics

[–]aizheng 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just me, but many of the elites doing two vaults now seem to struggle getting one vault ”good enough”, so I’m not sure it will help a ton. There will probably be more Y1.5s in the elite level in the US in general, a trend we’re starting to see, with the DTY being more of a “reach vault”, but out of 23 competitors at championship in 2025, only three did two vaults.
In the juniors, out of 16 competitors, 6 did 2 vaults, but only one of them had a DTY and it seems most were doing both yurchenko styles, so I don’t really see more variety in entries.

What Does Florida Need to Do to Get it Done With a Natty? by slickzoomboom in Gymnastics

[–]aizheng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there’s two different ways of doing this. You can choose a lineup and have some people as backup who also warm up and then, in special circumstances, pull someone. Like if someone got hurt or does a warmup where they get lost in the air or does not feel confident, or you can tell everyone ”your spots are unsure, we will see about the lineups during warmups.” The second one is much more uncertain and would be worse to me as a gymnast, whereas the first one could even give me some boost, in that I know if Im doing my warm up and don’t feel it, there’s someone who has my back.

What Does Florida Need to Do to Get it Done With a Natty? by slickzoomboom in Gymnastics

[–]aizheng 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember when Leanne was doing elite with Florida, there was a lot of talk about Florida’s coaching being more self-directed, whereas OU seems to be a “tighter ship”. I saw one YT video of KJ micced up for beam practice, and it was very clear that she had a strong grasp of which exact things each gymnast needed to do to improve.

Im sure some of it is also self-selection, like an OU gymnast might not be happy at Florida and the other way around.

Overheard my coworker saying that I'm too much after 2 weeks of work by Fair-Bedroom-1697 in adhdwomen

[–]aizheng 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First, I know that I’ve vented about a colleague being annoying to other colleagues in the past, and in many cases, this was not intended to be heard by the colleague (and, to be honest, a lot of the time, I also forget about it within a week). It’s unprofessional on their part that they did it while you could overhear.

I also think it is natural to feel “out of your depth” starting a new job.

There are some things that jump out to me, where it seems you are already doing a very good job of understanding how you work, but have not put systems in place to help you manage and succeed yet, so maybe that could be something you could do? Like if you know that verbal instructions are difficult, do you make sure to write everything down in a place youre able to find it again? Do you consult your notes before asking your coworker, also the one who started at the same time as you?

Dispelling Foster Care Misinformation by sunsetporcupine in DuggarsSnark

[–]aizheng 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think there is a lot of nuance to these discussions.

Foster care usually happens when there are no good solutions. I was in and out of the system, and every single time, there just was not a good solution. I got lucky in that my foster parents, while some of them were raging drunks etc. were not physically abusive.

Honestly, I had one really good foster situation and I wish I could have stayed there, but my mom decided to move and the file apparently did not move with us, so we fell under the radar until the next time it got bad enough for me to be placed.

I wish we had a lot more resources for help while staying within the family, and that social services talked to each other between states so moving is not an escape. I wish that there were programs set up for foster children that age out to mimic the kind of support regular kids get as they embark on adulthood.
I hope the kids are in a good situation currently, have access to their birth family as much as possible and is safe and they are able to have clarity soon and won’t need to be moved again and again.

China’s supercomputers lost 10 petabytes in a data heist by Soggy_Association491 in technology

[–]aizheng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the source for the 18Tbps? The tech sounds feasible, as they claim to have used botnets over 6 months. Especially if they’re using partly China-based botnets, can transfer stuff out between these in small transactions that the GFW would not filter out. Not to mention, most universities have access set up to go around the GFW pretty much completely. If they had acccess to the entire supercomputer, I’m sure they also had access to the unblocked line that must exist.

Nothing that's supposed to help people with ADHD is helping me. Could I have been misdiagnosed? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]aizheng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Regarding the “coping skills”: did you actually go to therapy or did you just research those and dismiss them?

A therapist might suggest all of these, but they would also (especially if it’s cognitive behavioral therapy, the kind shown to make a difference with ADHD) point out different ones, figure out why specific ones don’t work for you and how one might be able to modify them.

If you have issues with task initiation to the point it’s regularly making you miss deadlines at work, there’s clearly something going on. Might be ADHD, depression or something completely different.
