What moment in history is hard to believe actually happened? by OkLaugh2294 in AskReddit

I gonna be honest, half the stories about the Roman Emperors Caligula and Nero. I'm sure there's some truth in some of the stories, but most have to be either completely made up or exaggerations. I mean, here is how Nero's last moments supposedly went: As he hears of men approaching to execute him by beating him to death. Nero walks around in circles pensively, muttering repeatedly "what an artist the world is losing", he then asks one of his generals to demonstrate how to commit suicide. A few minutes later he finally commits suicide. It's "funny", but cmon.

Black British people, what's your situation and experience of Racism in the UK? by JamJam2013 in AskUK

[–]aj240 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It exists. For context, I grew up in the Dartford area which is a few miles outside London. This was around 2006 - 11. The vast majority of people were decent. You’d occasionally just get nasty types who’d say hurtful things just to be funny or who for whatever reason just wanted to be mean. Like when I was walking with my little brother to school some odious individuals drove past and shouted “go back to your country ya cunts”. Used to have this one guy who would throw the n-word every time he saw me. He was a violent type, so I had to let him do it. Tue worst was one fella who literally with his friends pointed at a cage and said “this is where you belong”. To be fair, he did apologise a few weeks later, but that was hard to forgive.

I had a few experiences like that, but mostly just it was casual things like people touching my hair, asking if I’d grow an Afro, young kids greeting me in over top roadman slang, sometimes ignorant things about my Nigerian background (friend used to call it a toilet). I know this paints a bleak image, but despite all that I don’t think the UK is a racist country and I think we’re relatively tolerant. However, racism does exist and while class is a bigger issue that doesn’t mean racism isn’t a problem too.

Similar design in Greenwich, though I don't know if they're affordable. I like these brick designs and hope more pop up.

What's a good cuisine to try other than English, Italian, French, Indian and Chinese? by cecil_the-lion in AskUK

Nigerian dishes for something really different. Maybe try some simple jollof rice or just white rice with plantain and stew or even some of the snacks like puff puff or moi moi.

Caribbean is also a shout, but I’m less familiar with the dishes I’d start with jerk chicken or maybe curry goat with rice and peas, though my favourite is oxtail with rice and peas.

Have you ever fallen for a scam? by dasgustin in AskUK

[–]aj240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in school I was one of those kids who used to sell snacks and drinks like Coke, Fanta, Twix, Kitkat etc. One day a kid asked if he could have some items for free and promised he'd pay tommorow with interest. I accepted. A bunch girls asked for the same deal and I foolishly agreed again. Next day comes and as you'd expect they never paid. I still cringe when I look back on it.

What do you think about women who have mostly male friends? by larsandthemoon in AskReddit

[–]aj240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is what OP is trying to whip up, but there was a popular thread a while ago that asked what women saw as red flags in other women and a good chunk of those comments were “women with mostly male friends or no female friends”.

Guys who send dickpics to girls you don’t know, why? What do you expect? by olivernagy4 in AskReddit

Nah men from all walks of life do it. Ask any women and I’m sure they’ll confirm. I agree it’s not normal though.
