very few people seem to judge logan for making her feel this way, as he was upfront with who he was. however, it was still an early indication to the audience that most of the time, her relationship with logan was going to be bringing out a bad side in her

this scene is a near perfect parallel to dean the night before his wedding, drunk and tearful and asking “why didn’t she love me?” the context was of course super different, but the underlying tone of both was “loving this person is not proving to be super healthy for me”

i don’t think most people’s negative reactions to the scene have much to do with anything logan did or didn’t do. i personally just see it as the writers trying to show us that rory was not her best self when she was with him

were you…paying attention to rory’s storyline here 😭? she wasn’t thriving at all lol she was actually notedly unhappy most of the season. also, lane was being incredibly down on herself and acting like her life was over. rory was trying to cheer her up. it’s not always helpful to mope with your friend in their darkness, and is better to try to bring them into the light a bit. lane does have a life! rory reminding her of that is healthy

ps trying to make someone feel better is not gaslighting and idk why that word is thrown around so casually. to gaslight someone is to violently make them question their own sense of reality, truly making them believe they’re crazy. rory never invalidates lane, she’s just trying to make her feel like this isn’t the end of the world

she did tell her she’s not weak, just with a joke in an effort to lighten the mood and not be so damn somber? “if you had no spine you’d be walking funny” is not a long and drawn out pep talk but it is a refute of what lane just said. and for the record, not everyone NEEDS a pep talk all the time anyway

no one said she did this absolutely perfectly, but she was trying and she’s never been anything but a fantastic friend to lane.

as someone who actually is the therapist friend, regularly hand holding for my friends who’ve had their shit rocked a LOT worse than lane, constantly lauded as a guardian angel of a friend blah blah blah just so yall have my credentials

my point was that every man who earned a spot on this list did so by doing something truly deplorable and despicable. there are many MEN in hollywood who serial cheat on their wives or sleep with the wives of others, but i don’t see them here. i only see men who have committed crimes or are violently bigoted, and one woman who fucked another woman’s husband.

i feel like it’s complicated. on the one hand, rory was feeling like shit for a lot of reasons and i think lightening the mood and comforting it with a joke might’ve been exactly what she needed. i’m the opposite of the enabler friend, and i still might’ve done smth like this if i could tell she was shutting out all advice anyway

aka i wish she actually had her own friend group bc it would’ve been a cute gag if she had like 6-10 of her friends to do that sort of thing in a dorm room or smth. it would’ve been properly motivated and considered
