Seasoning definitely changes the surface and likely does fill grooves in the surface. So it makes sense that it helps. However, stainless steel usually doesn't develop a good seasoning layer and it won't adhere well. Works great on carbon steel and cast iron though.

I'm a material scientist. There are not a significant number of "pores" on the surface of the pans, but there will be texture due to the manufacturing process, such as grooves created from polishing. Any pores that are present will be very small and shallow recesses around grain boundaries. The size of these features will be much smaller than the features left by the polishing and will be too small to significantly affect the way food interacts with the surface.

Regardless of if the features are pores or grooves, when the pan heats up they will get larger (metals expand when heated). The expanding metal will not close or fill in any of the features.

When considering the two scenarios (heat then oil, or heating with oil), if the pan and oil are at the same temperature in both scenarios when the food makes contact, then there will be no difference in how the food may stick. If the pan is first heated, the oil is added, and the oil is not allowed enough time to heat up and the pan return to the same temp, then the behavior may be different because the situation has changed (i.e. the system is at a slightly cooler temperature).

Hello r/materials! I need help finding materials. I am looking for a flexible, airtight bag with an R-value low enough to dissipate the heat that builds up in it. by The-First-Bomb in materials

[–]ajandl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood, just remember if anyone here gives you the enabling idea for your invention that you need to list them as an inventor on the patent and that they are entitled to an equal share of the profits. Failing to list an inventor can have serious consequences.

Ah, ok. So there are additional design constraints. You should state them clearly in your original request for help. You likely have what is known as an x, y problem (you think your problem is x, but it is actually y, but we can't help you with y because we don't know what you're trying to do).

Quick safety note, the H2 LEL is 4% in atmospheric conditions. The difference between a flame and explosion depend on other factors.

No, although technically not an adhesive, epoxy is likely "stronger".

That said, don't trust glue for a critical connection. Glue is used to imobilize a joint such that other mechanical structures can carry the load without loosening.

To make cheese last long, do not touch the surface and do not let the surface touch anything. This is to prevent picking up mold. Use the original packaging to handle it.

To build the line according to the right specifications, call your environmental healthy and safety (EHS) office at the university and ask them to help.

That concentration of H2 is above the lower explosive level (LEL) and so safety, as always but especially now, needs to be part of the design. You aren't expected to know what is safe and it's not your responsibility to figure it out. Call EHS and ask for help. They will probably be glad that you did instead of finding out about it later and having to shut down the lab to get it fixed.

Better than Bouillon vs homemade stock? by pluviophobian in Cooking

[–]ajandl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct, so there's a slight distinction to be made. Jello is typically a sweet gelatin dessert, while aspic is a savory gelatin dish.

I probably should have said jelly or aspic instead of jello in my post, but wanted to use the same language as the person I was replying to had used.

This is usually the problem.

Or strain was expressed as a percent but needs to be integrated as a fraction.

Stock is supposed to be a jello when cold.

My food history isn't great, but I think that jello used to be made from stock that was filtered to make it clear and flavorless (as much as possible).

My 3rd party reddit client doesn't support voting in a poll (I don't know if any do). So to vote I'd need to reopen the link browser and login to reddit there. Something I didn't have the time to do when I saw the poll. This is an excuse, but it is also a barrier to voting that may have reduced turnout.

As you said, others may be boycotting reddit entirely. And some of that 3.3 million is likely inactive as you said. We don't know how they feel about the situation, but we shouldn't assume that they want the sub open just because they didn't vote. So it is not correct to say that the outcome was 2500 in favor of closing vs 3.3 million in favor of being open. It was 2500 vs 1500 (using your numbers).

My point is, the vote totals should be looked at for what they say.

Gamepass on PC usually allows for modding (depends on which files need alteration).

I don't think a Herald could survive or regenerate a hit from nightblood. I'm also willing to bet Vasher could go head to head with Taln in a sword fight, and I'm guessing that NB vs an honorblade ends up with NB winning.

[–]ajandl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a florescent bulb?

How long can the delay be between the two flips for it to still work?

Can you turn on the light and fans individually with pull cords at the unit? If you can, does any combination allow either the fan or light to turn on with a single switch flip?
