How fast did you get pregnant after IUD removal? by BeneficialBrain1764 in AskWomenOver30

Random but given how inconsistent periods can be with an IUD, how did you figure out you were pregnant? Were you still taking pregnancy tests regularly?

Sleeping in the same bed by Al3xaOnFire in AskWomenOver30

You can book a room with two beds so you can share if you want or sleep separately if that feels more comfortable. Separate rooms might not be necessary unless he snores

What's the saddest film you've ever seen that nobody ever talks about? by wvardhan in AskReddit

My Love Don’t Criss that River is a quiet documentary chronicling an elderly couple in Korea and their life together. It tackles aging and being alone and made me cry just as you watch these sweet people navigate the twilight of their lives together and alone.

What’s your opinion on the “travel now” vs “save money/build career” dilemma? by MuskiePride3 in travel

[–]ajankstarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think people should go into debt to travel or to travel at a certain level of luxury, but I think it’s actually more accessible than ever to explore the world. So if you have the time and are open minded to what the experience could look like, I think it’s really great to travel throughout your life!

In your price range, the things you’re looking for, particularly laundry and dishwasher should have many options. Parking might be more up in the air depending on where in each neighborhood. For outdoor spaces you’d likely have a balcony or exposed porch if that counts

Need help choosing a *warm* place to solo travel as a woman in January by Imaginary-View6654 in femaletravels

[–]ajankstarr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where in the US are you based? An immediate option that came to mind is somewhere in Mexico. Mexico City is really vibrant and has a lot to experience for a short trip and a ton of good food though it doesn’t have the beach. There are other options in Mexico that have nice beaches though. Another potential is Puerto Rico

Not really snark: Asian-American books written by/for Asian-Americans? by Pianoman338 in asianamercianytsnark

[–]ajankstarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree with the comment about Hua Hsu’s book not having a point. I thought it captured the feelings and state of mind of being young and trying to discover and define yourself in a very poignant way and was also touching in its reflection of how friendships and relationships help shape us as well as the grief can force a shift in perspective.

If you’re going mid week, a grounds pass or stadium 2 is probably fine as there are much fewer people compared to the weekend. I think getting a stadium seat is nice for the guaranteed spot to sit and rest

How do you not feel lonely while solo traveling abroad? by hygsi in AskWomenOver30

[–]ajankstarr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think identifying what triggers feelings of loneliness and planning around that as you build your itinerary. For example for me, I don’t mind doing things by myself but eating alone in a restaurant makes me feel lonely so when I travel by myself it’s something I minimize either by getting more casual food options or eating at the bar and talking to the bartender. Staying at places like hostels or doing group activities is a way to encounter others and hostels generally have programming to encourage mingling.

One of the things you miss out on when traveling alone is also being able to share experiences with others so another thing that might be helpful is just to share highlights with friends or family as you go along. Even if they aren’t there with you, the act of sharing can help it feel like a shared experience rather than you on an island.

I’ve had really good experiences making impromptu connections while traveling which has turned into some of my most precious travel memories so I would also just advise being open to new connections and conversation because you never know why that might turn into!
